I'm not a golfer at all, but I like coming here with friends to practice my swinging and have a good time. Nothing better than being outside and hoping for a win inside the islands. Prices vary on how many balls you want to hit. Don't be shy to bring your own golf club, but if you don't own one you can rent one from them. Just don't forget to bring your ID, they will ask you to leave it with them for the duration of your game. This is a great activity to experience with family and friends while being very fun. I would have given this place a 5 star rating but not alot of table if you bring people who dont golf. The have sodas and beer on the positive side and you drive your balls into water. I've never been to a driving range where you can purposely hit balls into the water. The balls are reasonably priced and you can rent clubs here for a couple of bucks. One awesome thing here is if you hit an hole in one (on one of the floating greens), you can win some pretty cool prizes. One of the big prizes was a trip for two to Hawaii. This is a great setting to hang out and hit some balls into a large pond with various "island" greens. $20 for a large bucket is pretty steep, but the location is right next to GSR and is super convenient if you are staying at the hotel. If you are a serious golfer looking to hit balls during the day hours, I recommend visiting one of the local courses for cheap buckets of balls and far better facilities. I will say though, I had a blast banging balls through the night. read more

This place is a blast. The price of buckets of balls is fair and the lanes are pretty much self-sufficient. You can have a blast by yourself or with a group for as long as you want. Hitting balls at floating islands is a blast, they offer some prizes for hole in ones, including a trip to Hawaii if you can get one on the 200+ yards away floating island. Good luck! Awesome driving range. Came with friends when it was extremely windy and cold, but it was still a fun outing. The concept of this is so cool. Big lake with a bunch of targets that come with prizes! It make it a fun competition for friends. You can rent clubs and buy a bucket of balls! We had about 15 people and got 5 clubs and 2 bucket of balls and it was enough for us to all get a few hits and have fun! I had a great time with my friends... why the 2 stars? The service was crap. From the moment we walked in, the guy working seemed irritated and impatient. His demeanor was very off putting. Felt like we were talking to a total douche, not sure if he was having a bad day or he didn't like us as a group, but the least you can do is be respectful, especially to the people who are going to spend money at your business. I really like this place. You whack golf balls into a water reservoir. If you're good/lucky enough to make the ball into one of the buckets or holes you win a prize. I thought it was fun hitting the balls into water instead of a field was different and unique. It looked like everyone out there were also having a good time. I go to the range once a week. The price is good and there is usually a pad available. The only drawback is finding a tee that is the right height. Dress code is come as you are, which is nice. Makes it easy to stop in. They have lights so you can go in the evening which is also nice. Unlike courses in town it is a short walk to purchase balls and then hit the range. A couple courses in town make this a chore. read more

if i could choose less than one star i would. my boyfriend and i went to go get some balls and a club and the worker there was less than useful literally couldn't even tell us where to get the balls after we sat in silence and stared for a good 30 seconds and then mumbled outside. 5 minutes into golfing the literal club breaks and flies off. we go to alert the staff and they actually force my boyfriend to pay for it then and there. rightfully we were upset and asked to speak to a manager just to be told that they were sleeping LOL. they got the bowling manager and then called 14 other security guards because they felt threaten by an 18yo girl the employee straight up lied and told us that we were running up and hitting the ball and hitting the club on the ground which is far from the truth because 1st of all he wasn't even watching us because we were almost at the end bay while he was inside on his phone 2nd of all it took my boyfriend about 7 balls to actually make contact with it. the employee lied AGAIN and told us that they replace the clubs every week even though the one we had was visibly worn. i then asked to see the security footage and the manager said no so i told him you can't pull up the footage but are accusing us of beating a club?? he then told me not to make a big deal about it but could pull up the footage of what he was accusing us of? the employee then went on and said that he told us the policy...no sir you couldn't even tell us where to get the balls so. the lady sitting at the bay next to us with her kid told the worker that we were just regularly hitting the ball just for the worker to literally talk crap about us like who are you?? if i wanted to be mansplained to for 1 hour i would've gone to the casino. i would've never gone there to hopefully reverse the absolute mental disturbance this place has caused me. this experience was so disturbing that i literally had to download yelp read more

When you're bored, and in Reno, this is the place to be. You can go and hit balls for about an hour with a large bucket of balls for 10 bucks! It's right out side the GSR and there's always room to hit some balls. It's a fun environment for any golfer because you can't miss the water!!! And for those more experienced there are nine floating islands to choose from. Distances from about 40 yards to 220 yards. If you sink a ball in one of the nine island holes you are eligible to win multiple prizes. You can rent clubs at the "club house" and also buy alcoholic and or non alcoholic beverages there. I've been over 10 times and it's been a blast every single time. read more

A couple rounds in the darkness is what you can expect from this driving range. They open late until 2am sometimes, but at least until midnight on most days. You get to hit off into the pond and there are islands with prize pots in them. Funny thing is that they actually have a car on one of the islands, and you can tell it's been hit by many golf balls. Still, we tried our best to make a dent in it. The prices are fair, 7 bucks for a medium basket of golf balls or 9 bucks for a large. You can also rent clubs from the caddy hut, it's about 3 bucks for 3 clubs. I recommend a 7, 9, and a driver. It's a great stress relief if you lost a few rounds at the casino! read more

As a decent golfer, you would think hitting floating golf balls into a lake with music blaring and kids and other beginners happy gilmoring would be avoided at all costs. This added character is a refreshing change from the library like driving ranges at most golf courses. For a decent golfer, the greens and shorter targets truly focus your practicing efforts. On most driving ranges, you are unable to see where your ball lands, which leads you to believe the shot was better than it actually was. Seeing the splash at the aqua range clearly identifies where your ball landed, helping you improve your aim and swing. Obviously this is not the place to focus all of your practice, but iris a refreshing break to change up the monotony of practice sessions. read more

So every review since the ownership change has been bad. Want to know why? Because the prices are absolutely ridiculous now. $14 dollars for a local large? That used to be $8 and on par with other places around town. But wait you say, they still have the local deal. Ya its Monday through Thursday up until 4PM, you know, when everybody is still working or golfing on a golf course, not when locals would actually want to go here, you know, when its DARK!! Its insulting to locals that you have taken a great commodity of night time golf (the only place in town mind you) and priced yourself right out of the market and driven everyone away with ridiculous prices. You should be ashamed of yourself GSR. I am sure your financial analysts say its paying off though. (Its not, I went on a Thursday night last week, 65 degrees, there were 5 people there). I used to love coming here when the prior owners offered local discounts. Now that the Grand Sierra has taken over, they have jacked the prices up. $18 for a large bucket is absurd. If you buy a large bucket at a local golf course the price will be under $10. The prices are too high for a driving range and that's shown in the attendance numbers. When I go to the Grand Bay Driving Range there is only a fraction of people attending relative to when it was the Sierra Bay driving range. The range used to be packed with people waiting to get a spot to hit balls. Now the majority of mats are open with only a handful of people hitting balls. It's really disappointing to see. If they don't lower the prices they won't have as many customers and the business I fear will shut down. Which is a shame because the driving range was one of my favorite places to go to. My advice is to lower prices and/or have a better local discount. Monday-Thursday until 4pm is not going to be feasible for a lot of the loyal locals. read more

Two stars due to facility upgrades, new mats and new balls, otherwise would be a one. Everything else sucks. GRS is greedy and pushed out the old owners. New management and staff are rude and seem almost annoyed you need to purchase balls from them. Don't go after 4pm as prices are insane. $10 for small (50 balls), $14 large (75) and $18 for grand (100). If you pay with a card it has asks for a tip when you sign the receipt like a restaurant or bar. Why would I tip you for handing me a coin to get balls from the machine? I'm from Vegas and Taylor made golf range is much nicer and only $9 for a large, 90 balls any time of day. Also, be prepared for a lot of drunken idiots and riff raff if you go at night. Management says they are trying to turn this into Reno's ghetto version of top golf with music and cocktail waitresses etc. if this is the case then they need a real bar, not some shack with only bottled beer in a fridge like a convenience store. Then maybe the employees would deserve a tip. read more
