I'm a fan of buffets. There is a communal feeling as everyone saddles up to the food. And it's the great equalizer. No matter your station in life, you serve yourself. Grand Buffet from the outside entrance has a humble vibe. There are no fountains or statues. And the bathrooms have a disinfectant quality in the air. Somewhat dated. Not oozing with warmth. But clean in my experience with a no frills way of washing hands before eating. The staff will seat you, but I typically will get the appetizers, then find a seat. The staff are usually quick to see if you don't have a glass and will take your order if you choose to start that way. With families, I'm sure having them seat you is preferred. And seating, even on a busy day, is not too difficult. I estimate seating for about 100 people is available. That's based on a tour bus with 44 Japanese tourists coming in for lunch and not having any difficulty finding seating for lunch. The tour guide said he always brings his customers there after crossing the border from Canada, where they arrived. I mentioned appetizers. In addition there are main dishes, sides, some American offerings (Fried chicken wings, Pacific oysters on the half shell, French fries, crab rangoon), fresh fruit, a variety of salads, salad bar, and desserts including soft serve ice cream. The typical soft drinks, hot tea, or bottled beer is available. Dinner frequently includes salt and pepper fried crab half's. You may miss them at lunch. Sometimes they only serve them for dinner. There is also a Mongolian grill at the back of the buffet, that offers meats (beef, pork) or seafood (shrimp), noodles, vegetables, and different sauces. This is manned by one of the staff to cook your food with your sauce preference. They use a hot flat top grill to cook your food right in front of you. If you have your heart set trying that and don't see any staff, just ask for help from one of the waitresses. To get the full experience do try something from each section. The main dishes have chicken, beef. pork, shrimp, crab, and imitation crab. Easily labeled and recognizable. Buffets are logistical nightmares with the common element of consistency being the goal. Seasoning can also present challenges when trying to make everyone happy. Over the years visiting this place, it's been consistently at the right temperature, seasoned appropriately, well maintained with all serving pans filled with food, and clean. The staff are rock solid. No deviation from being there making sure your glass is full and being polite and helpful. This week I chose a Friday at 3:34 PM. To my surprise the parking lot was half full. Usually there is a steep lull between lunch and dinner. That was the only surprise. Everything else was at a standard I expect. Which is why I come back. Yum yum, as my mom would say! They had a lot to choose from considering it looks pretty quaint from the outside. I know many people who recommend this buffet and now I can say the same. It was mostly your standard Chinese fare, all cooked in one way or another: shrimp cooked about 6 different ways, beef and broccoli, a Mongolian grill - just pick your ingredients and bring it to them, as well as a small dessert bar including soft serve with cones! I left satisfied with the options and the price. It's a lot bigger inside and can accommodate large groups, if necessary. We brought in 30 and had our own section. I love the variety with multiple options of seafood, beef, chicken, and vegetables. It's an all you can eat AYCE buffet. Everything I ate was good, except I prefer the cold shrimp to be deveined. We went at 1pm on a Monday. There were only a few other tables full. It was very quiet. The restaurant has a large, open room. They have booths and tables. They asked which we wanted to sit at. It was very clean. Our server got our drink order quickly and then we headed over to the buffet. They have a lot of the regular Chinese buffet offerings, which is what we were looking for. I especially liked the crab rangoon as it's one of my favorite Chinese dishes. They also had some sushi in addition to the typical offerings. Most of the food was hot but not overcooked, except for one chicken dish (chicken on a skewer) which was pretty dry. The parking lot is shared with Value Village and a few other stores, so it is large and has lots of spots. This is a less than okay buffet. Most of the items here are salty. I'm starting to think that the more expensive the ingredients are, they make it saltier so people don't go back for it and and the less expensive ingredients are season okay. Most of the desserts seem to be prepackaged and bulk-ordered but the layered coffee cake was light and fluffy. There are a few things around that could use some maintenance (like their booth seat cushions) and the soft service ice cream area and machine could use some maintenance but overall it was not as bad as some of the other reviews said it was. The place is dirtier than ever and the bathrooms are absolutely filthy. It makes you seriously wonder if the kitchen is even clean enough to pass a basic inspection. This is probably the first buffet that I have been to where the service was excellent. The staff (maybe family run) was all top notch and knew what to give us before even asking. SHUT THIS PLACE DOWN RIGHT NOW!! I've already reported them to the WA state Health Department. Snohomish County Food Safty department. This Place should be SHUT DOWN IMMEDIATELY! The 1st stall, the toilet was filled with feces and urine un-flushed. The toilet, The walls were filthy, as well as the stall walls and floor. I used my foot to flush it and it overflowed. Luckily it didn't overflow but was at the top of the bowl. 4. The 2nd stall was also filled with feces and urine. This stall was worse than the 1st stall that I told you about. 5 There is BLACK MOLD throughout the entire bathroom, almost every square inch. The base boards, the ceiling, all around wall and the toilets There was no seat covers in either stall.Every thing was Filthy, and flat out gross. It was extremely obvious that NO ONE ever cleaned the bathrooms there. Now for the WORST PART OF ALL! One of the serving staff was in the Handicapped stall, and heard me expressing how gross, disgusting, etc. And that I felt like I was going to barf. I was at the sink directly across from the stall doors. She came out of the stall after hiding in there hoping I would just leave. Which I didn't . I again washed my hands,and kept the paper towel in my hand so I could get out of there without having to touch anything else. Then I gathered my friends, and had them leave. I then called for the Manager, and was Lied to after being told there was no Manager. I looked straight at this young man and demanded to see a Manager. And just like that, there was the Manager! I told him I refused to pay even one cent to this place after seeing what I saw, and the absolute Health and Safety Vilations they were openly committing. I tried this buffet for the first time today after hearing a recommendation from a colleague that eats here weekly. Overall, I found the a lot of buffet's food a bit below average, but still really yummy. The mayo mussels were pretty tiny compared to other buffets, the crab rangoons, general tso's chicken, and egg rolls were pretty generic (to be expected); flavor is still the same though. The buffet has plenty of delicious menu items. The buffet has quite a few dessert options: an ice cream machine, pies (pre-made?), and fruit. I especially enjoyed the fruit at the dessert table. There's a lot of fresh mussels and shrimp available in the buffet as well. I was hope to try the spicy squid and kimchi they serve too. I've tried multiple buffets in the Northern Seattle area and each one seems to have its own unique perks and flaws. This buffet is a peaceful, quiet one (at least on a friday afternoon) and is much cheaper than others. One notable item I found at this buffet exclusively was stuffed shrimp; didn't get to try it though. The cleanness of the buffet is questionable but definitely passable. The waitress was also kind and friendly, but English isn't her first language, so she did not understand me when I asked her concerning nut allergies. For those with nut allergies, be cautious. The ice cream toppings are right next to other nut products: butterfingers and peanut toppings. The ice cream machine itself is fine and not too close for risk of cross-contamination. The only other items in the buffet that contain nuts are a pecan pie and peanut butter chicken. I personally avoid food that's close to those ones. I haven't tried the Mongolian grill yet.
