This is a pretty small hole in the wall. You never quite think about coming here, but after a recommendation from a friend, I decided to check it out. When I went inside, it was just one family there and the owner. This food is Middle Eastern, but really delicious. I got the Shawarma Wraps and wow...it was made fresh, and the owner was very kind in making recommendations. I wonder why this place isn't more popular. I highly recommend going to this place, as it looks like it is a family owned business and the people, as well as the food is as authentic as they get. Try the gyros... The other day, I was passing through Richardson on my way to a meeting with a client. It was approaching 3 PM and I had not eaten since breakfast. I saw the Grand Cafe's sign in a strip center and decided to try it. This is an authentic Greek family who prepare authentic Greek food. I was totally amazed!!!! Really, really good and authentic. Comes on a paper plate with plastic silverware. That probably has a lot to do with why my dinner, including delicious soup and a Coke and tax was about $12.50. Take Bill's word for it. A total hole in the wall that offers a small amount of tasty food. Walking in I almost walked out. It smelled like smoke, the furniture and decorations were tacky, and there was an "under construction" feel about the place. The owner and his wife do everything, and they take great pride in what they offer. I ordered the Philly steak, as well as hummus and falafel. The hummus was amazing! Robust, creamy, yet had some density to it. It was hard not to stop eating it. The pita bread that came with it sucked though. It wasnt fresh, really thin, and a bit hard. It was forgivable considering how awesome the hummus was. Just dont actually eat the pita bread. The falafel was like nothing Ive ever had. They came out looking like small, circular rings. They are super crispy, bold with spices, and had a good amount of oil. Mixing it with the hummus made it even better. The philly steak was good, but after a couple of bites, it lost its flavor. I do like that the bread was soft. It also didnt feel too carby, which is nice. falalfel Overall I was highly pleased with what they had to offer in the Mediterranean department. I usually don't write reviews and don't eat out much. I didn't get what i paid for. The owner is humble and courteous and probably this is his bread and butter. I was expecting decent good food but i was disappointed. May be my expectation is too high. I have been to lots of hole in wall type of restaurant in Washington DC area. But their food was good. You come out happy even if you wait in the line. What i have learned is the restaurant who uses Sams club fries, frozen patty, and chicken nuggets do not have anything unique about them. After what we thought was a mixup with the Door Dash order, we were really impressed with the quality and flavor of the Mediterranean food from Grand Cafe! The baba ganoush turned out to be my favorite side dish and the hummus was smooth and rich. Everything tasted delicious and we will definitely be ordering again. We appreciate the owner taking time to go through our order over the phone to sort out where we got mixed up, too, on a very busy night for her. I originally came in for kibeh and lamb kebabs, but they no longer had either. Instead, I went with the tawook. Meat was tender and sell roasted, not overcooked at all. Rice was good, salad was sharp and fresh, and there was enough oil and seasonings on the (very smooth) hummus. I will be back! read more

Went in for lunch today. I'd called ahead for a pickup order but ended up dining in. Ordered the platter with chicken and it came with a lot of food! I made two meals out if it. Soup: hearty but not too heavy Hummus and pita: great flavor to hummus whereas most places it's too plain. The serving size was more than enough for 2 meals and 1 midday snack! Chicken, rice, onions and salad also came with the platter. Again, plenty of food, everything really well cooked, and great flavor! Service was also amazing. Seems like a couple and one other employee are able to work the lunch crowd pretty well. The place is casual, and the couple/owners are AWESOMELY, genuinely friendly (yes, three adjectives in a row). I wanted to like Grand Cafe a lot, as I've heard good reviews about both the food and the service. And.. it lived up to its hype. I had a Grand burger lunch combo, which came with fries and a can of soda. The burger was very good, and they add a bit of hot sauce to it so that it has a bit of a punch. Nothing majorly overpowering, but it definitely separates it from a run of the mill burger. The fries were tasty as well. The staff was very friendly and happy to see a group of us trudge in for lunch. Prices were REALLY good for the amount of food that we received, and according to my friends, it is also Halal so Muslims, fear not. Went here today for lunch. I had the falafel platter. It was a linch special that came with a lentil soup, hummus, tobule, & pita wedges. The hummus had an amazing taste to it and probably some of the creamiest hummus I've ever had. The Falafel was light fresh and hot. My friend had the baba ganoush and she really liked it too. The decor is definitely a little dated but really I'm there to eat not to look at the decor. The couple running the restaurant was very nice and sweet and were constantly asking us if the food was good and if we are enjoying ourselves. Granted I've only had one thing and one thing only on the menu, it keeps me coming back for more! I was introduced to this place by a friend and I've been coming back about once a week for lunch. I work very close to GC and a $7 combo 5 minutes away is not bad! So what is that one thing I always order? Shish Tawouk sandwich combo. The garlic spread in the wrap mirrors that of the infamous Zankou chicken and Al Tayebat grocer in Anaheim. Pickles, grilled onions and tender (which is rare, as in uncommon and not in relation to the meat) chicken breast all smothered with this DELICIOUS garlic spread and wrapped in a fresh pita is served with seasoned french fries and your choice of a drink! For $7, it's a steal that is soooo good!! You must, must try the Shish Tawouk sandwich. I've taken 2 friends here already and they've thanked me after the first bite. Service may be a tad slow so if you're in a rush during lunch...well it's worth it. The owners are super friendly and maybe one day I'll try something new. But be warned if you like garlic then this is great. If you do not like Garlic then find something else. I like lots of garlic so it is right up my ally. The garlic sauce wasn't quite pungent enough for me; it veered a little on mayonnaise taste. Baba ganoujj was very oily, and just OK. I think you guys should know that, given it's a place I have visited before, you're in for a positive review. Appetizers: N/A Not really a place where you order appetizers. I think they have some on the menu, but the food you order should be more than enough going forward. Sides: B French Fries: They are not poor, but not special. They don't have much of a strong natural taste, and they do not put much on them to add flavor. However, they are made fresh, on the spot, and the natural hot taste goes well by itself or with fries. I would just like to see them do something more with them going ahead. Entres: A- Their signature burger, the "Grand Burger" is loaded with pickles, tomatoes, mayo, and other amenities I can't recall. Once again, their food is cooked fresh to made, and so you know you're gonna get it hot. Honestly, when it comes to burgers, it just comes down to the seasoning used in the patty + how well they cook it on the grill. Grand Cafe does a great job in retaining the tenderness of their beef compared to other burger joints I've tried. For around 6 bucks, it's definitely worth it as you get a 1/2 pound of patty meat. Oh, and for the spicy enthusiasts, order it with hot sauce on it! Service: B+ They started getting busy right when we got there. We were three orders down, with the prior families having a size of anywhere from 5 to 8. We were a group of 5, ordering 3 batches of large fries, 5 burgers, and 3 drinks. We got our food in about 30 minutes. You really do get a bang for the buck type of deal. I paid for 3 burgers, 2 fries, and 3 drinks for 22 dollars. You should be filled with all that food. They are nice folk, and I really have no complaints about what the area. Spaced tables, giant TV up on the wall, and overall a comfy environment, even when crowded. Conclusion: 5/5 Top notch halal burgers, and arguably the best burger around. I would personally give this place a 4.5 stars, but since I cannot do that, I will round up! No real complaints, though some advice...if you got a copy of the menu, call ahead! It will save you some time, while you drive there. read more

I LOVE eating here! Came from a recommendation from a friend as it is all halal. Always go for the Philly cheesesteak as they use the freshest meats and it's all halal. My girlfriend gets the chicken Philly as it is organic non-gmo chicken and always tender and juicy. Everything is cooked right on the spot and served to perfection. On days when I don't feel like a sandwich. I can alway mix it up for Philly steak or chicken meat on top of rice for the same price. The chef is always friendly and entertaining. He is always telling me about how his Korean customers from samsung always get the Philly and it's their best seller. I came here on a whim for lunch last week and was extremely pleased. It was my first time, and the woman at the counter recommended the Shish Tawouk sandwich- I am so glad she did. It was incredibly fresh and tasted delicious. The sandwich came with fries and a drink, and I think I paid less than $7.00. The service was great, too; the same woman came back to my table after bringing me my food to make sure everything was fine. It tests whether they truly make it all here as the owner said or if they bring it in and just heat-n-serve. All I can say is wow! This is a darn good sandwich: wish I ordered the large instead of the small. I tried the lentil soup: undercooked for my taste. I tried the hummus: yum, not chalky at all.
