    Greek Moussaka

The food, service, and ambiance were incredible. Our table ordered the hummus, baked feta, Greek moussaka, and gyro beyti, all of which were delicious. 10/10 recommend!

I stopped by here for lunch and really enjoyed how fast and good the food was. The place is spacious and cozy with top notch service!! I had the chicken shawarma plate. It came out fast and to perfection. It was super thin sliced, fell apart in my mouth and seasoned well with a wonderful fresh side salad rice! I recommend and the lamb gyro will be for dinner tonight!

Absolutely one of my favorite Mediterranean spots in Dallas. Ephesus is where I take visitors when I want to show them the food scene in town. You can't beat the old Turkish look to the place, it's a perfect setting. Today was great as always. The lentil soup was just perfect to start, followed by possibly the best Doner gyro in DFW. Legit Turkish tea to wrap and you have a great dining experience. Our server was attentive and professional, which is standard here.

Complimentary House Rolls and a Spiced Butter
    Laura C.

It was a cold, windy and rainy late afternoon and we were far from home. It seemed like a great time to get out of traffic and try Ephesus! With no other customers in the house, we settled in. We were given complimentary house rolls and a spice butter. What a perfectly raised roll and yummy soft butter. Such flavor! Our waitress was lovely; but I will confess to the tiniest of language comprehension issues on my part. We were given lunch menus at first, apparently, and as we started to order, she realized that and took those away. I then started looking over a different broader dinner menu. And wow, what a menu. So we ordered the spicy Ezme, a cold appetizer that tasted similar to a gazpacho or salsa to me. A mixed vegetable dish, chopped and blended with pepper paste, pomegranate, molasses and olive oil, it was delicious! ($6.95) Oddly, it came with a basket of wonderful, warm grill marked pita bread that we later noted we were charged $1 for. It was never mentioned when we ordered. I can't imagine what else we would have done with the dip, without the pita bread. It seemed almost like a luxurious condiment that you could eat with anything; but who knew? We moved on to entrees and I ordered the Turkish Ravioli (or Turkish Manti Dumplings.) These were listed as being beef stuffed and served with tomato fondue and garlic yogurt. ($18.95) They were generally chewy with about 1/3 stuck together and the tiny beef stuffing fell out of many and it was tough - not all, but many. I assumed they had been frozen. I was half way through when I realized that there was no tomato fondue either. Just a chili oil. Amazingly, I used the last of the Ezme on the Ravioli and it was terrific that way. So, I didn't mention it. I suppose I should have. My spouse ordered this fantastic platter, though. The gyro beyti (17.95) was a thin-sliced beef & lamb gyro wrapped in lavash bread with tomato sauce and Greek garlic yogurt served with rice pilaf and sauteed carrot, broccoli, zucchini and squash. It also had small sides of pickled cabbage and red onion. I had bites of everything. It was all scrumptious and tender. He also ordered a side of crispy charred Brussel Sprouts ($5). Seasoned perfectly, we devoured those sprouts. I'm not kidding. Even the ashes. They were so good!! A generous portion, there was plenty for two. Before we left, I placed a to go order for some Babaganoush. I do hold a preconceived idea of what Babaganoush looks like and in general, tastes like. The menu description: Roasted eggplant, tahini, olive oil & herbs. It's the whitest babaganoush I've ever seen and apparently that's very Turkish. I Googled it. So okay!! It must have yogurt in it or even mayo, possibly. And it's got a fair amount of lemon juice, too, so all in all it's pretty tangy. So now I know and it has it's charms. The eggplant has been cut up not pureed, so the taste and textural experience is very different. They eat it with a roll, I guess, because that's what came with it. I think it will definitely be delicious with a number of things. The restaurant is delightfully appointed, with all tables and chairs inside and patio dining outside. The strip center has a large parking lot, so there's plenty of parking spaces. I guess it just wasn't my day. The ladies room has one stall working at this time and there was no toilet paper. Anywhere. I had to let them know. Service was kind and efficient. I doubt I would order the Ravioli again; but we'll still go back. Everything else was wonderful and very interesting.

Lentil soup, offered bread and dipping sauce

I went when there was only one table dining. It was not busy, but the food was very good and services were great. The bread offered was very delicious, but I wasn't a huge fan of the dipping sauce. Not sure why it reminds me of American pizza dipping sauce. But everything else was great, lentil soup,, veggies and chicken kebab.

Wow just wow!! Best Mediterranean restaurant I've been to. We ordered the - cold sampler (ezme, baba ghanoush, shakshuka, dolmades): the cold sampler was so fresh w/ warm pita, baba ghanoush light and fluffy - gyro beyti: such moist meat! and very delicious vegetables (not just basic and steamed) - lahmacun: haven't had before and I enjoyed it! very thin flatbread so it was crispy when fresh - they also had delicious rolls and butter. Vibes were great, service was great, and felt very homey and had fun Mediterranean music (not sure what language) Will definitely come back and bring friends!

Great quiet location to catch up on business or with a friend.. Interior is well lit, ample seating and clean! Stopped in an orderd the lunch special . I had the beef kebab with rice and salad - fantastic - notable mention beef was full of flavor and tender !. For a appetizer we split a delicious order of grape leaves No doubt I will make a point of driving here again to eat, lunch and dinner , as the experience was that good

We initially came in to the area to try a Tex-Mex restaurant and decided to go to the neighboring Mediterranean Grill instead. We're glad we switched our plans! The ambiance of the restaurant is quaint and the service was very attentive. They first brought out some warm bread with an herbed butter. The flavor of the butter was delicious and the warm bread was fresh. For our order, we started with the babaganoush served with pita bread. The portion was generous and we had plenty between two people. For our main dishes, we went with the Chicken Shawarma and Greek Moussaka. The chicken was thinly sliced and had great flavor, that was even before the accompanying tzatziki sauce. The Greek Moussaka was also fabulous. It reminded my husband of a lasagna without the noodles. The flavor of the beef and lamb was paired perfectly with the tomato sauce and other seasonings. While we thought we'd bring home leftovers, we couldn't help but to keep eating and finish it all. We're glad we stumbled upon this place and look forward to bringing friends and family here in the future.

Oh man this place slays!! It's a nice sit down restaurant and service was fantastic. The complimentary bread was sooo fluffy and soft we were all begging for more and they delivered. Every dish was delish. The surprise winner was the Chicken Shish Kebab. The meat was incredibly tender, juicy, and flavorful. The Turkish ravioli is basically mini dumplings which are so fun to eat. Chef Special was also great with the crunchy potato topping that added a nice texture. Honestly don't think you can go wrong with any dish.

When we got there, we were told the menu had changed. Fine, we adjusted and placed our order at 5:30. By 6 PM, only half of it had arrived, and when we asked about the missing items, they wouldn't honor the happy hour pricing even though this was the first thing we ordered when we arrived. The meatballs were what we were most excited to try, but after waiting 40 minutes (with all of our other food already out), they still hadn't arrived. On top of that, our drinks took over 30 minutes and multiple reminders to finally show up. The happy hour deals for drinks were great, drinks were 1/2 off and they do $5 Lalo tequila. Maybe it was just an off day, but between the slow service, missing items, and mixed-up pricing, the experience was pretty disappointing - especially considering how beautiful the space is.

There are restaurants you go to for the atmosphere…read more And then there is Kostas Cafe on Greenville Avenue, a small white building with green trim that has been serving authentic Greek food in Dallas since 1987, where I go for both of those things and also for Jimmy, who is a force of nature disguised as a waiter and the single greatest conversationalist I have encountered on either side of the Canadian border. Let me tell you about Jimmy. Jimmy grew up in Canada playing hockey. Not watching hockey. Playing hockey. The kind of hockey that starts at five in the morning on an outdoor rink in temperatures that would make a reasonable person reconsider their life choices entirely. The kind of hockey where you tape your own stick and argue about offsides in a parking lot and develop opinions about skating techniques that you will still be sharing loudly thirty years later in a Greek restaurant in Dallas, Texas, to a customer who grew up in Chicago and knows enough about hockey to keep the conversation going for approximately forty five minutes longer than either of you planned. Jimmy loves to talk. I want to be extremely clear that this is not a criticism. It is a statement of fact delivered with profound admiration. Jimmy will arrive at your table with the energy of a man who has been waiting specifically for you to show up so he can tell you several things he has been thinking about. He will ask what you want. You will begin to tell him. He will hear the first part of your order, be reminded of something, and begin a story. The story will be excellent. You will forget you were ordering. Jimmy will also forget you were ordering. This is fine. This is the Kostas experience. You are not here to rush. You are here to sit in a room with Greek music and photos of Greece on the walls and let Jimmy talk to you about the neutral zone trap while somewhere in the kitchen the spanakopita is getting ready to change your life. At some point Jimmy will return to the table with food. It will not be entirely what you ordered. It will be more than what you ordered. Extra sides will arrive that you did not ask for and cannot explain and do not want to question because questioning the extra sides feels ungrateful and also because they are delicious and you are going to eat all of them without hesitation or remorse. Did I order the extra tzatziki. I did not. Is it sitting in front of me right now. It is. Am I going to address this. I am not. Kostas Ioannidis came to Dallas from Greece in 1976, worked his way through Dallas kitchens for over a decade, and opened this place in January 1987 with almost nobody showing up on day one and the kind of quiet stubbornness that turns into a thirty seven year institution on Greenville Avenue. The recipes come from Northern Greece, from the kind of family kitchen that does not write things down because why would you write it down, you just know, you have always known, your mother knew, her mother knew, and now the entire Upper Greenville area knows too and has known since before I was born. The saganaki arrives on fire. Cheese. On fire. At your table. Presented to you like a gift from a civilization that understood long before anyone else that the correct thing to do with cheese is ignite it in public and let people watch. I have seen this happen at Kostas multiple times and I still make the same face every time which is the face of a person who cannot believe this is allowed and is extremely grateful that it is. At some point during my last visit Jimmy circled back to a story about a playoff game he played in that involved a broken stick, a disputed goal, and a referee decision he has clearly not made peace with, and I want you to know we were forty minutes into dinner and I had eaten approximately everything on the table including the tzatziki I did not order and I was fully content to sit there for another forty minutes and hear how it ended. It ended badly for Jimmy's team. The referee was wrong. We are in agreement on this.
