Above all else, the food products are excellent. I want to highlight that first. The chocolate croissant is probably one of my favorite pasties in the metro area. After that, there's definitely room for improvement. Service is generally pretty slow. Prices are fairly high for pastries, especially compared to other reputable spots in the area. However, my least favorite part of this location is the fact that they have absolutely no outlets available. I would absolutely not recommend this as a place to try to work unless you happen to have a computer with a really solid battery life. The indoor space feels pretty cramped and could be modernized a bit. The outdoor patio is lovely, but just too small. This is definitely the type of place where you show up, order something to go, and plan a little extra time for the staff to process everything without much rush. Really efficient location, great breakfast parties and bread, and very friendly staff. You can order ahead. My favorite are the scones (which change daily) and the breakfast sandwiches. We got here early as we have an early schedule, so we waited by the locked door for just a few minutes until they opened. When we first walked in I noticed that the tables still had crumbs from last night or yesterday and the floor was covered in crumbs and hadn't been swept. Service was very polite and cheerful as we placed our orders. The latte came out perfectly for me and was spot on without being too sweet or bitter. I also had ordered the Bacon Egg Croissant and it was over the top good! Sticker shock had us as we aren't used to Portland pricing, but beyond that the food is definitely good. The bacon egg croissant was flavorful, very flaky and buttery. The bacon had a nice crisp, the croissant was very buttery and toasted crispy yet flaky. The egg was fried over medium so the yolk was solid and not runny. - good thing for a sandwich. I do like the food, but for the prices, please wipe down the tables and sweep the floors. read more

A Portland chain, this location is much smaller than the others. Inside there are just a few tables so they do mostly takeout sandwich orders, and of course bread, cookies, pastries and coffee drinks. Bread is very good, a crusty outside with a nice chew on the interior. I often pick up a boule or baguette when having guests for dinner. Their marionberry scones are wonderful, not too sweet and a fair amount of the berries. When I see them, it's hard to resist! The Turkey and cheese sandwich is classic, but the bread makes it extra special, so this is my go-to order. Biggest challenge is their tiny parking lot which has about ten spots. If it's full, I just keep going because I have no idea where else to park. read more

I love this place. The cashiers never rush you and will answer all your questions to make sure you are getting the right item. They rotate the flavors of pastries so you can get a new favorite every time. Between the ginger scones and cranberry almond scones I can't decide which I like more. Their coffee cake is pure decadence. All the fruit layered between a crumble topping and a moist, dense cake is the perfect hot beverage compliment. The parking is very limited so you have to be patient to find a space in the 8 space parking lot or along the street. Definitely love Grand Central Bakery but I almost always need to take a cleansing breath before going in because the service, though friendly is almost always incredibly slow if you're doing anything but ordering straight out of the baked goods case and leaving. Not sure why it takes so long to make a tune sandwich but it always does. Sadly the pandemic has not been kind to them as well apparently. Many of their frozen take and bake items are not available due to limited staffing. Having said all this, I love their breads and baked goods, and will continue to support them, and as long as whatever I'm ordering isn't hot, I'll order on line and pick the items up at the pickup window. read more

This Grand Central Bakery location is on the small side so I can see it can create confusions when it's crowded. Located near the Multnomah Village on Multnomah Boulevard between 34th and 35th Avenue, this bakery has their own parking lot but it's teeny tiny, about six spaces so you're better off finding street parking if you see one available. On this specific visit, I came here for their baked goods and an 8-ounce mocha. I honestly didn't expect to like their espresso beverages. Based on previous experiences with bakery coffee drinks, they're usually weak tasting. Maybe I got them on a good day, but my mocha was strong and flavorful! I love their baked goods. I usually get their Danish pastries, it's so flaky and yummy! They serve breakfast sandwiches all day. Their 'Build Your Own' breakfast sandwiches are made to order so do expect to wait about 10-30+ minutes for them, depending on how busy they are. I thought the croissant breakfast sandwich was a bit on the greasy side but tasty, and the bolo bread breakfast sandwich was too chewy. Not recommended for someone with TMJ Syndrome, seriously. My overall experience here was positive, however, if you're not a fan of crowds, I would avoid going during the weekend mornings. read more

I don't know the name of the lady working the front but she was kind, informative, and helpful. Nice little bakery. Would be better if dogs were allowed.
