I was very disappointed with our last interaction with this restaurant. Normally they are friendly and the food is great. I placed a phone order 30 minuets before they were closing and the first thing the man on the phone said after hello was " can you be here in 10 minuets" he was very rude about it. I let him know we could be there in less then 10 minuets since we live right down the street. "We are closing so you have to be here in 10 minuets" when my husband arrived he was shocked at how he was treated. He would not say hello or acknowledge that my husband thanked him for staying open. The same man on the phone was still very rude. Since both my husband and myself have both worked in restaurants for many years we were just shocked. If he didn't want to take our order and wanted to close early he should have just said they were closed. read more

I would give this restaurant 4 stars for the food but I am only giving it 2 for the mediocre service and the arrogant, unfriendly manager. I have been here twice... The first time I did a to go order and Mr. Friendly threw my receipt at me and it landed on the floor and he just walked away without saying a word. No hi, no thank you, no nothing.....The second time me and my boyfriend ate inside. A waiter took our order, brought our food and never came back.. We had to go find someone for a left over box and the check....and guess who we had to ask??? My favorite place for lunch in Placerville. Service has always been friendly.. and my meal always comes out fast! When I got to Chinese I always rate the restaurant by the sweet and sour pork, and theirs is great. I have to say that I often will get the sesame tofu. It's really tasty and ice never seen it at other places. read more

The menu has way too many options and call me picky, but if you have Chinese dish listed on the menu, you should know how to make it. I ordered the pork egg fu young. TERRIBLE! I got scrambled egg folded over a couple of water chestnuts with a pile of cooked pork on top. WHAT!!!? Everything else was at least recognizable but not worth a second visit for sure. read more

This place doesn't have the best customer service, but their food totally makes up for it. Their chow mein noodles are the best I've came across in my 23 years of life. The crab ragoons are simply to die for. We spent 40 dollars on a HUGE meal (plenty of leftovers) and it was worth every penny. Grand China is great!! We found this gem of a restaurant a few years back and have made a point of eating there on each of our frequent trips to Placerville. The Lunch menu features a combo plate that is the best tasting bargain around. My favorite entrees are Broccoli Beef and Cashew Chicken, but then again there are the Sweet and Sour Prawns and the Kung Pao Prawns. My favorite dinner menu item is Mandarin Delight, a sizzling combination of prawns, beef, and vegetables in a yummy sauce. Wonderful!! Grand China is CLEAN and very pretty. The soft music sets the tone for your Chinese dining experience. The service is fast and very professional, The prices are very reasonable. read more

The food is great. I rated it 2 stars because the service stinks. I have talked to the manager a couple of times yet nothing ever changes. They sit you. Wait 5 minutes and come get your order. They don't even ask you if you would like something else to drink besides water or tea. (They bring the water without asking and in a drought.) They bring your order, which by the way what cost me $8.50 a couple of months ago cost me $12.10. They drop the plate off. They don't even provide serving spoons. They wait until they think you are finished and drop the check off. That is it. They never ask you how the food is, they never ask if you want anything else. The place is never full and I am sure it is because of the service. If they provided customer service this place would be packed. read more

This used to be a good restaurant until it reopened. I went into the restaurant last month thinking it will be the same people and same food but to my surprise the food was off. I was told by one of the wait staff that the prior waitresses Michelle and Wendy was on vacation and will work at the restaurant again. To my surprise, they didn't know I had their contact info and heard back from them recently. Turns out that they have nothing to do with the reopening of the restaurant and that the new owners are just using Wendys old reputation to build up new clientele. It makes me sick knowing that they would lie. The chefs are not the same and it is not run by the owners before they closed down. Don't be fooled! read more

We've been eating here since they opened and were so very happy that they re-opened after having closed for a while. With the same chef in the kitchen, the food is as good as ever, which is VERY good. Having tried all the Chinese places in the area, Grand China is the best in the area by far. The others aren't bad just that the dishes here have more finese in how they are prepared and the complexity of flavors rises above the others. Just a few days ago we went for lunch and ordered a lunch special plate. Although Orange Chicken is one of the choices, and a good one too, I wanted Orange Beef instead. So I asked if I could have that and offered to pay extra if necessary since that dish is more expensive if ordered off the regular menu. The waitress said no problem and that is what we received. When I got the bill I found thay they had charged me a grand total of an additional $ .50. It was delicious, crispy with no doughy coating and mounded on my plate sufficient to feed me well and then some. Another great meal from our favorite Asian restaraunt. We'll be back soon. read more

Maybe I went there on an off day. Got our food to go and when we got it home, the mongolian beef was swimming in oil. Nothing was what I would call "bad", it was just bland - the beef, the garlic shrimp and green beans, the house special chow mein. The shrimp were a bit fishy, just as another reviewer stated. All pretty much tasteless. The restaurant itself is very pleasant, but I'm going to keep looking for better. read more

The second time was for dinner and while the food was good again although the service sucked. Not friendly, rude and short. Today is our third and last time. We came for lunch again and low and behold it's the attitude waitress again. Makes faces while you order and is short and rude. Then my hubby gets his wonton soup with an added item... A HAIR.. We have eaten there previously (a few years back) great food. Took my friend there for her Birthday. .. 11/1/2018..The food had changed. They like to serve the Happy Family meal. but, we felt, was uneatable. We ordered 2 Happy family meals, their special, I guess, a side order of Chow Mein and Orange Chicken to go.. Over $40.00...+ There was a texture to the meat, chicken, beef, fish that was like it was canned or boiled. It was different and so was the taste, very little taste. I tried to cancel the orange chicken, earlier, but they told me it was already prepared, so I had to purchase it. The orange chicken had the same texture of meat and tasteless. My son couldn't eat it.. We left 3/4 of the food and didn't even want to take it home when they offered us a doggie bag. They charged us $30.00....and I even gave them a tip. $3.00 The waiter was really friendly. Wish I could give it a better review. read more

My first time dining a Grand China, and have to say I am quite impressed! We selected the shared dinner option A, which came with won-ton soup (tasty), fried egg rolls and fried stuffed creamy crab won-ton (very good), pork fried rice (very, very good...I'm picky on my pork fried rice), sweet and sour pork and cashew chicken. Though there were only two of us dining, the portions served were enough to feed five people! Cost is $11.25 per person...a screaming deal! The sweet and sour pork had good breading (not too thick), was not fatty and was perfectly cooked. The cashew chicken had generous amounts of chicken, whole cashews, zucchini and celery. My partner preferred a little more salt to the dish, but I found it to be tasty and fine as it was. The iced tea was a good real brew tea...another bonus. Overall...very satisfied and look forward to sampling more dishes to see if this establishment is really 5 stars. Oh...nice and clean and cool inside on a 90 degree day. Very comfortable all around...good staff...meal only took about 10-15?minutes to arrive after ordering. read more

First visit back since restaurant reopened under new ownership two weeks ago. Food was satisfactory and female staff were quite pleasant; however, our waiter, a relative of the new owner, was rude, unpleasant and failed to provide satisfactory service. He rushed through our order and failed to include one of our party's entrees. He had to be reminded that he had failed to complete this person's order. As the evening progressed, he never came back to see if all was well or if anyone wished any additional food items. This individual needs training in customer relations as well as how not to present a sour and unhappy disposition. He obviously suffers from the big I little you syndrome. We miss the previous owners who were always so pleasant and welcoming. Under the previous ownership, we ate at this restaurant several times a month; however, as a result of this individual's attitude and lack of courtesy we shall no longer frequent this restaurant. An employee's demeanor obviously reflects management's attitude. read more

Although the food is decent, nothing to call home about, the rudeness of the staff is quite appalling. I picked up my partner from the train station in Sacramento. By the time we arrived in Placerville, there wasn't much open. The web said they were still open until 9 pm. We arrived at Grand China at 7 minutes before 8. The sign on the door confirmed that they were open until 9. As we walked in, we were greeted by a female staff person who said "we close 8:30". We said ok, that would give us enough time. We ordered orange chicken, some pot stickers and white rice. After ordering, a male wait staff came to the table and asked if it was ok if he brought the food first and then the pot stickers because "we close 8:30". We said that was fine. The pot stickers arrived and at the same time he brought the check, once again stating "we close 8:30, we have to go all the way to Elk Grove". This will be my last time there. read more
