I forgot how good this restaurant can be! Went for lunch on a cold day and I had the House Special Wonton Soup and my husband had the Shrimp Udon Noodle Soup. Both were outstanding!! So many wontons, meat and veggies in mine and a ton of shrimp and veggies in his. I really like that they have many options for lunch and old school family dinners. The service was fast and welcoming. Such a contrast to the service at the last Chinese restaurant we went to recently. Visiting Placerville again and wanted Chinese for dinner. My son had heard good things from co workers about Hong Kong Inn, a glance at Yelp confirmed it to be our choice. We ordered on the phone. We ordered general chicken, broccoli beef, sweet and sour pork, fried rice, chow mien, egg rolls and soup. It was ready upon arrival. Total coming a bit over 80 dollars. It was a ton of food!! 8/7/2025: It's been well over 1-1/2 years since, I think I last ate at Hong Kong Inn. Actually, the last enjoyable dinner I ate was with and before my Mom passed away . . . Sad. Anyway, I'm elated Hong Kong Inn cooks their Chinese Cuisine akin to Kowloon, Macau, and Singapore Chinese Cuisine: Hong Kong Inn emulates Singapore's AWESOME Hawkers Stands' Cuisine which I just love inhaling! Aside, it's been too sizzlin' hot slaving over an electric range preparing my meals, i.e., I opted ordering dinner inhaling at Hong Kong Inn AND ordered more than an ample supply of leftovers where I will have enough inhaling for four days--nuking a small portion of leftovers for lunches and dinners. You know what makes this place the best? Quick and friendly customer service. They greet and seat you right away, refill your water, clear your table as the dishes are eaten, and are friendly enough to smile. They still take phone orders. They are old school and I like it. Fyi to vegetarians the imitation crab cheese wontons still have meat in them so avoid those if you don't want meat. All their Tofu and eggplant dishes are awesome. I think I didn't order the right dishes when I went before, we actually go a fair amount, but I just stick to the chow mein because their rice is not my favorite. I came to find that rather than the lemon chicken, the general chicken is actually pretty good. Chow mein is basic, a little bit of cabbage and some chicken, but if that's what you are looking for, look no further. The food is good and the portions are big. This is my favorite Chinese food place in the placerville/diamond springs area because it's the only one that has never made me sick. That said, they do some shady things that have added up to us taking our business elsewhere. We always order to go which is probably why we end up with this issue, but there have been a couple of times where they've stuffed the to-go plate so full of chow mein that you can't see the entrée, but then we get home to find out that we only got a half order of the entrée. We tried this place coming home from Lake Tahoe, not sure what to expect. The restaurant was very clean, staff were very friendly and welcoming. We were seated immediately, brought water's and menus, and our order was taken shortly after that. The service was very efficient and excellent. The food came out, hot and abundant. we were surprised by the amount of food. Overall, this was a great experience. I highly recommend this place and I would've given it five stars, but the chow mein noodles were a little overcooked, and the egg rolls could've been hotter, but all in all I will be back and I would rate this establishment 4.8 stars. read more

Since I was coming down the hill after a day hike in Placerville, I stopped by Hong Kong Inn to grab takeout to celebrate New Year's Eve. I was not in the mood to cook dinner and remembered this restaurant was nearby. The food was pretty good, Americanized Chinese style. They cook without MSG which I appreciate. I ordered the chicken fried rice and tangerine chicken. The fried rice was fantastic. The rice was light and fluffy with absolutely no oiliness. Very clean tasting. The pieces of chicken were cleanly cut pieces of light meat. The tangerine chicken was good. It was not overly sweet since they do not use HFCS sauces or MSG. The coating was not over floured and the chicken was moist. The menu has a hot chili pepper next to the tangerine chicken but you can ask for it to be cooked mild. Still yummy either way. The interior is a bit outdated but clean. The folks that work here are so darn kind. Another great thing about this place is the lunch ~$10.50 and dinner specials ~$13 are offered every day, not just on the weekdays. read more

It was good until it wasn't. We've spent so much money here. $75 almost every time we've ordered. Good, clean food. This last time I placed the order, or tried, on the phone she was rude. She wasn't understanding my simple order and when I asked for vegetable fried rice she said they don't make that (which we order every week?) and when I said shrimp fried rice she said how many shrimp you want? $1 each shrimp. WHAT? Since when? Are you putting tariffs on your shrimp now? I've never heard of this. She always just does shrimp fried rice but this time everything was different and weird. Lost our business. The vegetable fried rice was great, and the pork chowmein has bigger noodles and was not greasy which is good. The interior of the restaurant is cozy and the service is great. The one thing I did not like was the egg roll that came with the lunch special was pork, I asked of they had a veggie egg roll instead and the waitress said well its only a little pork. I thought this was an excellent Chinese restaurant. Huge portions, delicious food and reasonable prices. They offer specials for both lunch and dinner that include soup, egg roll, etc. However, virtually every item on the menu comes with soup, so it's not really necessary to order one of the specials.
