7/23/2018: I'm WAAAY too lay-zee cooking dinner due to the weather is 100-degrees Fahrenheit~Fougeddabouddit-We're eating at Hong Kong Inn!

8/7/2025: It's been well over 1-1/2 years since, I think I last ate at Hong Kong Inn. Actually, the last enjoyable dinner I ate was with and before my Mom passed away . . . Sad. Anyway, I'm elated Hong Kong Inn cooks their Chinese Cuisine akin to Kowloon, Macau, and Singapore Chinese Cuisine: Hong Kong Inn emulates Singapore's AWESOME Hawkers Stands' Cuisine which I just love inhaling! Aside, it's been too sizzlin' hot slaving over an electric range preparing my meals, i.e., I opted ordering dinner inhaling at Hong Kong Inn AND ordered more than an ample supply of leftovers where I will have enough inhaling for four days--nuking a small portion of leftovers for lunches and dinners. Reiterating, a beautiful plan I devised, indeed: I ordered Four Seasons, House Fried Rice, Wor Won Ton Soup for leftovers meals while intentionally inhaling just small portions, i.e., a small bowl of Egg Flower Soup, House Fried Rice, Four Seasons dining at Hong Kong Inn, and slurping a glass of ice tea.

You know what makes this place the best? Quick and friendly customer service. They greet and seat you right away, refill your water, clear your table as the dishes are eaten, and are friendly enough to smile. They still take phone orders. They are old school and I like it. Fyi to vegetarians the imitation crab cheese wontons still have meat in them so avoid those if you don't want meat. All their Tofu and eggplant dishes are awesome. The tangerine sauce for Tangerine Chicken or Tofu is my absolute favorite. I've been going here for nearly 40yrs and have never been disappointed.

Since I was coming down the hill after a day hike in Placerville, I stopped by Hong Kong Inn to grab takeout to celebrate New Year's Eve. I was not in the mood to cook dinner and remembered this restaurant was nearby. The food was pretty good, Americanized Chinese style. They cook without MSG which I appreciate. I ordered the chicken fried rice and tangerine chicken. The fried rice was fantastic. The rice was light and fluffy with absolutely no oiliness. Very clean tasting. The pieces of chicken were cleanly cut pieces of light meat. The tangerine chicken was good. It was not overly sweet since they do not use HFCS sauces or MSG. The coating was not over floured and the chicken was moist. The menu has a hot chili pepper next to the tangerine chicken but you can ask for it to be cooked mild. Still yummy either way. The interior is a bit outdated but clean. The folks that work here are so darn kind. Another great thing about this place is the lunch ~$10.50 and dinner specials ~$13 are offered every day, not just on the weekdays.

Lots of yummy tofu options. My favorite is the General Tso tofu. Good, greasy chow mein. Very casual, unassuming place. Easy parking.

Great food and service - it's our go to Chinese food place in Placerville. The egg rolls are to die for along with the won ton soup!

Ask the Community - Hong Kong Inn

Are they dine in now?

Yes. HKI limits five guest parties, i.e., five couples only may dine inside the restaurant: The distance between guests are spread out throughout the restaurant's dining floor plan which typically allows over forty guests dining; however, IMHO,…

We arrived a few minutes after 3 pm, when the restaurant opens for dinner. As you can imagine, we were a large group who were all hungry and ready to eat. We decided to go with the family dinner (special B) option that gives you the choice to select about a dozen menu items to share family style. This option also comes with soup, pork fried rice, egg rolls and fried shrimp for $18.50 a person. The ambience was quiet and similar to many other Chinese restaurants. They have booths and tables for smaller parties and larger rounded tables with a Lazy Susan for larger groups. The service was great. I was surprised how quickly all of the food came out. One plate after another, and suddenly the table was packed with hot food ready to eat. Everyone working was friendly and attentive, filling our cups with water, providing extra napkins, and checking on us frequently if we needed anything else. Oh, and the food was so good. I particularly loved the fried rice, broccoli beef, orange chicken, and Mongolian beef. To be honest, all of the food was delicious, but those stood out to me from the other plates we ordered. There was so much food that we couldn't eat everything, so we had plenty of takeout boxes to take food home. For the price of the family dinner options, you can't go wrong with a great price and the amount of food you get. It's very much worth it. If you are with a large group of friends and find yourself in Cameron Park, I highly recommend coming to China City to eat. You won't be disappointed. It's a hidden gem tucked away in a strip mall off of Highway 50.

We ordered the family b for one with szcheuan(?) chicken order of pot stickers and steamed rice. The szcheuan chicken was freshly made and had lots of veggies. Supposed to be hot but to me it's more of a medium spicy. The potstickers seemed homemade and tasted good with the accompanying spicy sauce. The egg drop soup was very nice. The fried shrimp was crisp and fresh. The egg roll was crisp and not oily. Overall a great dinner with very attentive service.

I loaded my container up with spicy Szechuan chicken, garlic chicken, Mongolian beef, and white rice. Everything was fresh, hot, and seriously flavorful. You can tell the food isn't just sitting there, it actually tastes like it was just made. It helps when you actually see the cooks changing out the food regularly! And let's talk about portions... they PACK those containers to the point they barely close definitely got my money's worth and then some. For the price, if you're anywhere near this spot, this is the move. Big Back verified I'll definitely be coming back again!

People in my family also liked the stir-fried beef with wide rice noodles, kung pao chicken, and whole pieces of fried chicken. The one desert was sesame balls. There were also tempura-style veggies and fries. No fresh vegetables or fruit, but they had stir-fried broccoli. There were also egg rolls and crab rangoon. Simple tables and chairs, 2 bathrooms (with disposable seat covers available), and disposable plates, forks, cups, etc. Floor was just a little sticky. You just walk right in, grab a plate, and start loading up. Once you sit down, someone will bring drinks. While there, many people came in for the to-go options. When we went to pay our bill, they also offered a $4.95 kids price. What? Not sure how they survive! Would definitely come back if I were a local.
