Literally one of those Chinese restaurants that's good enough to eat at, but you wouldn't brag about it to your friends or take foodies here. All the Chinese restaurants around these parts remind me a lot of panda express quality, if you have a craving for Chinese it will definitely Satiate that, but it certainly nothing to write home about. I have noticed that the chow mein noodles taste very gummy, almost like they're not cooked fresh? And all of the fried chicken dishes like lemon chicken, orange chicken seem as though they are these little uniform fried pieces, like they were previously frozen like that and then deep-fried. The food always comes out super fast, the fried rice doesn't have a lot of the normal goodies that you would expect, and obviously none of the soups are fresh. Not awful, but not great. I think three stars is perfect rating. I would be very surprised if most of these dishes were made fresh or homemade, but I admit I've only tried a couple of different dishes here as I've only been here two or three times. Maybe something more vegetable heavy is fresh and made to order? read more

My absolute favorite hot and sour soup! The ingredients are just to my liking. No veggie mix tossed into this one, I really have a disdain towards soups that clearly have the frozen peas and carrots mix thrown in. Good sized cuts of tofu, the mushroom they use is black fungus, overall feels like this stuff was made for me. The orange chicken is also very lovely, something about it stands out against the rest. Chow mein almost tastes like it could be cooked with olive oil, which is actually quite pleasant in my opinion. The crab and cheese turnovers are just like crab rangoons, but they're folded in a way that actually makes them manageable to eat. I'm looking forward to coming back to this place to keep trying more of the menu. So far very good! read more

General chicken? Nah, this is straight up bread. The chow fun tasted like it was cooked in Dawn soap. Beef was oh so questionable, with a weird color to it. Wonton soup tasted like straight up toilet water. I cope with humor but Jesus Christ. Prawns were mushy and not crispy in any way, shape, or form. The rice was mediocre at best, and my stomach is left growling. 1 star, at best, never eating again. Had to add seasoning to every dish to make it edible. I am not happy and neither is my stomach. Incompetent and rude. My parents ordered sweet and sour chicken, and orange chicken, with extra sauce. Instead, they put NO SAUCE on anything, when no one orders these dishes without sauce, and the receipt clearly said to add sauce (pictures provided) When my father called to have the problem aleviated, rather than comping the meal like they should have, they first tried to argue with him regarding what happened, and eventually tried to tell him that he could come back to the restaurant to get sauce, when he could not do so because of the unreasonable distance, and bad road and weather conditions. This restaurant is neither the best, nor only chinese food restaurant in town, so due to our disappointment we will no longer be eating here, and we recommend that you don't either. 1 star, and these people earned it. read more

This is by far the best Chinese restaurant I've ever been to. I was in town for business years ago and this was recommended to me by the locals. I happened to be in the area again and made a special trip to get some food to take home with me. I ended up getting about seven different dishes and was not disappointed!! Second review here. I haven't been here in years because the first time was bad, real bad. I figured I'd give it a second chance years later just because. Then, finding out after the pandemic, they got new owners. I only just found out.These new owners know what there doing! Food was amazing! Price was good. Portions were big. Chicken was crispy thank god, not like last time. Also unlike a few years ago, I was able to get fried rice and chowmein with my lunch special and that has to happen. The Golden Dragon restaurant is my go to you for Chinese food in Placerville. For this visit, I decided to get my meal to go. I only waited 15 minutes for quite a few different items. When I got home, the food was piping hot, the eggrolls were crispy, and everything was delicious! I'm sure there are some other very good Chinese food restaurants in Placerville however I have to keep coming back to Golden Dragon. We stopped here while road-tripping through Northern California and were stricken with a craving for Chinese food. It was the best I've had in a while. The wife and I both ordered lunch specials. She had sweet and sour shrimp and I had Mongolian beef. All the lunch specials come with pork fried rice or chow mein and egg rolls and are preceded with soup, either egg flower or hot and sour. Honestly, it's a lot of food. And the price is extremely reasonable. Altogether lunch for both of us cost slightly over $21 before tip. And I left a healthy tip because the service was outstanding. So, next time you're anywhere near Placerville and you find yourself jonesing for Chinese, The Golden Dragon is your answer. read more

I had high quality American Chinese food and will definitely be back to try more. Everything I ordered was good, which is honestly a nice surprise. The Mongolian beef had large pieces of tender meat. The sweet and sour pork was good, without excess breading. The vegetable Chowmain had lots of veggies just like the picture in another review. The owners are definitely from China but puzzles me why they can't serve the authentic cuisine from their own country. Very much Americanized. We ordered one of the dinners. War wonton soup was good enough and so were the appetizers. The entrees were mostly the vegetables that they were cooked in and it wouldn't be so bad if those vegetables were good ones.
