I stopped in for a late night meal and it was my first time stopping. It was definitely a good experience. It was just a little diner nothing fancy but the food was very good and the service was awesome. Sometimes when I stop in somewhere late at night the people act like they are mad you come in but not here. My server was named Melissa and she was very friendly and very helpful. Take out review! Ordered food for take out and was really impressed by the speed and handling of the food. Got my order in about 20-25 min with delivery! The cheese curds arrived still warm and YUM. Huge cheese lover and these do not disappoint. Greek salad I added on gyro meat. The portion was huge and so filling. It came with 2 dressings but I felt it only needed 1 to cover everything well. Highly recommend. Cobb salad was also huge! Cobb is my favorite type of salad and I am a bit snobby that I love blue cheese. I did miss that part but it was still amazing even with shredded cheddar. This one I did feel both dressings were needed but you could definitely thin one out if you are trying to love the calorie amount. I can't wait to go in person! read more

We tried Grand Coney during Poutine Week 2025, and we definitely want to come back and try them again! The interior has that classic diner vibe, with booths and stools around a large center area. The poutine they prepared was very close to a traditional Canadian poutine, and it was definitely one of the best ones we tried during the event. Been here 3x over the past several weeks. Started out around 3.5 to a 4-star experience. The food was pretty solid all around, quality was good, prices a bit high but still was solid. Chicago Dog was authentic, fries were in abundance and fresh and hot. Detroit and Flint Coneys were pretty good. We were pretty pleased. Service was good too. So we decided to come back, and it was a repeat of the first visit. Everything pretty much solid . So then we decided to come back again - and on this latest visit there were some notable changes in the quality and the portions, and prices were slightly higher too. That basically bumped this down to a 2-star rating (Could've Been Better) - essentially because it could have been better. The service was still solid, our server was very helpful and walked us through recommendations, she was very friendly. But this time we ordered a hotdog basket (same as last 2 visits) and it was more expensive plus we got 30-40% less fries, and the hotdog condiments were noticeably being penny-pinched as well. The Chicago Dog did not have a poppy seed bun (they may have ran out), and we got limited relish, and you're supposed to get 2 half-tomatoes and we got 1 - - lol - - never seen that before. Onions and relish and cheese were scarce and being skimped. The quality / taste was not as good as it was only a few weeks prior, and at both of those visits. This place is obviously taking strides to reduce portions and cut corners on the quality. The fries were still hot and fresh as usual - but a lot less. You can see the other pictures and judge for yourself. So basically it was such a letdown, we do not plan on a repeat visit. There are a few other Coney places and several diners in GR that do a great job and have been consistently good. We plan to stick to those going forward. It's unfortunate, but it is what it is because the reduction in portions and lower quality was so noticeable, it doesn't make us want to come back. Alas - it was good while it lasted. read more

Went here for the first time today 5-6-25.nice clean dining area.got seated in about 1 minute.nice waitress.good vibes! I ordered the hippy hash breakfast meal and it was delicious. The broccoli and mushrooms and tomatoes gave it a good taste that i never had with corned beef.i loved it! The chili cheese fries was the bomb too! I've been to Grand Coney over 100 times since 2010. It's one of my go-to spots, mostly for breakfast, but I've also enjoyed their coney dogs, wraps, and sandwiches. I sometimes joke that Grand Coney is my favorite restaurant in Grand Rapids, simply because I've been there so many times. It's a classic, no-frills diner with consistently good food and friendly service. It's also walking distance from my house, so it's an easy stop. They have plenty of parking if you're driving - if the lot in front is full, there's more parking available around back. The menu includes all your diner classics - burgers, coney dogs, dinner options, breakfast plates served all day, skillets, etc. My go-to order is the classic breakfast with bacon, hash browns, English muffin toast, and over medium eggs. I also love the meaty hippie hash and the farmer's skillet. I've never had anything bad at Grand Coney and usually food comes out super quickly. They have plenty of room for groups to dine in, and it used to be a favorite spot for late night, post-bar eats. If you appreciate a good diner, definitely check out Grand Coney. read more

There were 3 tables seated, one couple at the bar. So 5 minutes at the front waiting to be seated. 10 mins to take our drink order. Drinks came out pretty fast, we told our waiter we were ready to order when the drinks came. She said she'd be right back... 15+ mins later... (with prompting) she took our order. The food came in about 10 minutes. The onion rings and fries were super hot, and good! The soup was hot and good! The chilli cheese dogs (requested light chilli) came heaped with lukewarm chilli piled on lukewarm dogs. Asked for the check when the food arrived... had to ask twice again. Which is hard to do, since the wait staff disappear to parts unknown for extended periods of time. So the whole thing took over an hour for really, overall, sub par food. During our wait (ordeal) a couple came in sat at the bar across from us, ordered drinks, waited through our meal, our asking for the check, (repeatedly) and through our paying. They threw cash on the counter for the drinks and left. Sidenote; I told my friend I was not in favor of going there, because this is my experience every time I go there. When neither me or my wife can be truly bothered to cook after a long afternoon of running errands this is always a solid go to spot that never disappoints no matter the time of day or what type of food your craving. We always end up sharing some onion rings but besides that we really tend to wonder the menu with our choices. I ended up choosing the Detroit basket which is was delicious and filling for the price and my wife thoroughly enjoyed her open faced hot sandwich. Foods was JUST okay , noting grand about it. I would save my time , money and go different "diner" next time! $10-$20 per person But I am single person and costed me $30 for nasty watery milk shake , onion rings , baskets of two saddest hot dogs with soggy fries - VERY small amount of fries.... I could not imagine what two people or even a family meal would like, very disappointed. ( it also was my first time trying and nope! ) I will not be back most definitely. Two stars because service was friendly. I stopped in for a quick meal. I got a vegetable skillet with the eggs over medium and side pancakes. I was immediately skeptical when the eggs came out topped with a layer of yellowish oil. My skepticism proved correct. They were oily with an odd taste. While the vegetables looked fresh, the skillet had an underlying taste of grill cleaner, as if they had just sprayed the grill with cleaner and started making the meal right after. Two days ago I ordered the Junkyard Dog Basket (2 Koegel hot dogs with chili, seasoned ground beef, bacon, onions, jalapeños, mustard, cayenne pepper, and Colby cheese with a side of onion rings). This is now my go to dog! The Koegel dogs are high quality and tasty and go incredibly well with the cornucopia of delicious toppings. I'll definitely be eating these again multiple times down the road. Also ordered a Chicago Dog (Koegel hot dog with sport peppers, neon relish, onion, tomato, mustard, celery salt on a poppy seed bun). While this was quite tasty, the sport peppers seemed a bit off, very chewy, but it was still a very good dog. The major disappointment here was the onion rings. Never have I had such soggy greasy onion rings, so much so that my convection oven/air fryer could not bring any crispiness to them which has never happened before with delivered onion rings. They were dripping grease! Likely they had sat around well before the hot dogs were ready, possibly the oil in the fryer was not hot enough. One bite was enough to send them to the trash. Because of this and the fact that I had to pay extra, plus that they actually sent them to a customer I'm giving a three-star rating, if I had just had the dogs it would have been a hard five. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this spot. I expected only hot dogs but they have a full menu with many options. I went there for lunch to try it out. We ordered chilli cheese fries for starters, chicago dogs and Greek salad. Everything tasted amazing! I would recommend adding jalapeños to the chilli cheese fries for the kick. The Greek salad was really good and fresh! No one likes limp lettuce. The chicago dogs were also pretty good. Overall I would highly recommend this place. The service was also amazing! Decided to cp.e here after bowling with some friends. I'm not too impressed. Our wait time was not too bad. We arrived around 12 am and waited about 10 to 15 min to be sat. But once sat we didn't have the best service. The waitress took our drink order, and i repeatedly asked for honey for my hot tea, which I never received even after getting a refill and asking for another refill. The food took over an hour to get to our table. Now, mind you, they were not that busy once we got sat. Once we sat, the back of the diner cleared up, and we were the only ones left. The food itself wasn't too bad. The grilled chicken was cooked very well, and the flavor was good. I really enjoyed the honey mustard. The Chili fries were not that great. The cheese wasn't melted all the way when I received them. They were missing something too, like more topping or something. Also the Chilli just didn't have the flavor is should have. Almost like the chili was missing the chili flavor. My friends liked their loaded hot dogs. The cob slade was ok for him. And the appetizer fried pickles were really good. The diner when you walk in has the retro diner vibe. Red seats and the plain metal tables. There's not much to the place. The wall decorations were pretty light. There's not much to look at overall. I grew up near Detroit and I love a good Coney. All east sliders know Lafayette is among the best. I am not putting Grand Coney on the level of Lafayette but it is a very good coney and one I come back to again and again. I have been there 5-6 times and plan to come back again. This was my second coney ever, and my second for the day. This coney was superior to the first. And this place is truly excellent. I wanted to try Yesterdog for comparison sake, but CLOSED on Sundays. So, GC has that going for it. 24 hours, and not only are coney's available before noon, you can get them cooked in an omelette. Love that they are smoke free. Love that they pour your bleary-eyed hot-dog eatin' mess of a self coffee like it's on fire sale. Love that they have a soda fountain, even if, as the waitress tells us, nobody really orders phosphates (besides my california friend, that is). And that dog. It has snap. It has spice. It's all good things. The only reason there is not fifth star is that I don't yet know enough about these crazy michigan hot dogs to fully commit to Grand Coney. Great great find. For many years a neighborhood go to. Last 2 visits have been a disappointment. A dinner visit fries had obviously been cold and dropped back into the fryer.
