This place is extremely close to where I live and is open 24 hours a day, so I frequent this location often. Not only do they have a ton of options, but they also have cheap prices. I like to order a waffle and a chicken tenders platter. They have BOMB chicken tenders and their ranch is the good kind. I will say that they could do way better in the biscuits and gravy department. At the end of the day, its cheap and what you would expect of diner food. They are also usually quick to get you your food. read more

I love the Grand Coney at the corner of Eastern and Michigan. My husband and I go for breakfast there most Wednesdays. The eggs are always just the way we like them and everything else is consistently good as well. But our favorite part is that our waitress, Tracy, keeps our coffee cups full all the time. We never have to ask for seconds or thirds (!) because she keeps the hot coffee coming. All in all, we highly recommend this restaurant. read more

I've been here several times over the past couple years and every single time I am not disappointed! Whether it be 12AM after a concert or 9AM for breakfast I crave this food. The homemade corned beef hash is amazing and I can drink several cups of their delicious coffee. Today we had server Rosa and she was super attentive to us and the other patrons in the restaurant as the only server I was happily impressed. The food is good but good god, I can't receive an order correctly for the sake of me. The table service has been great the few times I've sat in, but I work third shift, I just want to grab food and go home, but I haven't picked up a correct order one single time. From missing food, sides, condiments, to the completely wrong order. Today I ordered fish & chips with extra tartar sauce, but received a ranch and no tartar with 1 piece of fish and 1 piece of something random from the fryer. I've never left a review for any establishment before so I'm just hoping our beloved coney can make some different efforts to make things a little easier and enjoyable. read more

Came here in the middle of the night after leaving the ER. It was slow and quiet, just a few people at the "bar". Our server was very friendly, attentive just enough, and not overbearing. They have just changed their menu, and made more breakfast items available. I ordered an omelette with toast. My toast was black and the filling in my omelette was barely warm - cheese wasn't even fully melted. It was a cheap dinner though. Got out with $12 total. read more

Grand Coney has become our "place" for a good greasy (probably hungover) brunch. Open 24 hours a day, this diner serves a great selection of hot dogs, burgers, and breakfast foods. Whenever we visit, I order either the three little pigs biscuits- ham and bacon and sausage gravy served atop a perfectly buttered biscuit, topped with eggs any style- or the southern stacked biscuits- same as the three little pigs but sub ham for fried chicken. Both dishes are so good that I can't resist ordering one or the other every time, and I cannot get enough! I'd love to give Grand Coney a 5 star review, but we've been underwhelmed in terms of service and cleanliness on a couple occasions. I really try not to use the bathroom because it's never very clean, and quite often we find the table to have that icky diner stickiness. There is one waiter we try to avoid because he has messed up our orders on multiple occasions with little remorse. In terms of food, however, I have no complaints. read more

Horrible! Poor service for sub-par food. An absolute decline with front of the house management since I've been coming there. Servers are not experienced to handle time management with seating, food ordering/running, payment and checking on current customers. This is all a poor reflection on owner/operator. I've had meals with missing items, no check-ups or warm ups with coffee, leaving me with one cup of coffee for the entire meal. I pretty much wrote this place off but decided to give it one more chance tonight only because it was a mere convenience. I ordered a chicken salad I had my mind set on only to get all the way home and not even three bites into my salad I pull out of my mouth a long pink strand of hair! I drove back in my pj's to see about getting my 15 dollars refunded and guess who had long curly pink hair? THE MANAGER! She starts digging through the salad to look for proof in order to give a refund! Seeing that she was not going to return my wasted money I left the imbecile and the trailer-trash diner never to return. DO NOT EAT AT THIS PLACE! Grand Coney is a lifesaver at 3 in the morning! It's a locally owned diner that features an extensive and fairly creative breakfast, hot dog, and sandwich menu. The servers are super great and attentive, even during the night shift. I wouldn't be that chipper if I were working such late hours. Ya'll are saints. Shakes = yummy. Appetizers = my favorite, so much so that I've compiled a nice little list! -Fried green beans (yes!) - Mac n jack bites: deep fried Mac n cheese and bacon bits - Mozzarella sticks -Deep fried pickles (their awesome bestseller) - Pretzel bites (good, although kinda pricey just for pretzels) - Onion rings Last time I was in, I departed from my appetizer galore routine and ordered the Hippie Hash, and it was amazing. Feta cheese is my new standard for eggs and skillets. Thank you, Grand Coney. Thank you. If I'm only kind of hungry and want to save money, I just order my own invention: two eggs with mushrooms and toast. Keep that ability in mind if you're not feeling an entire meal. For some strange reason I had the cravings for hot dogs of all things. Decided to go here because what says hot dogs like "coney"? I got the sweet D. 2 chili dogs, chili cheese fries and a pop. Chili was actually pretty good. Sometimes you get a chili on a dog that just shouldn't be there. The dogs had the nice snap on the skin and the whole meal was nice and hot. My wife decided to get the fish and chips. She ate it all. Figure that's all I really need to say about that. It was a bit cold inside when we arrived, but I seen one of the managers come out of the back and looking cold. Next thing ya know, it was getting warmer. A decent meal and the price wasn't that bad. It has a very small parking lot in front but a second one is around back in the side of the building. The three of us sat down at the counter for service and were able to be served right away during the Sunday breakfast rush. There was a line waiting for a table. The menu is on the smaller side, offering a page of breakfast options including a kids menu and a couple of senior citizen options. We were expecting fairly quick service but it turns out this wasn't the case. We also had to ask for the check twice. They are however, prompt with the drink refills. The French fries were really good, perfectly crispy with a nice flavor. The chicken tenders weren't bad either until I got to the second strip. It was mushy and soggy from siting in grease, except there wasn't any grease on the bottom of my plate. It almost felt like it wasn't cooked all the way. Overall it wasn't anything I'd right home about. One good thing is it's open 24 hours. read more

I don't understand why anyone would give this place anything less than 5 stars. The staff was, from the time we walked in until the time we left, incredibly kind and friendly. My wife and I stopped here on a whim as another diner we wanted to try was closed. The food was exactly what I expected. I mean how can you screw up breakfast food. The portions were larger than I expected, which was perfect as I was starving. The atmosphere of Grand Coney is very warm and "old neighborhood". I'd call the decor modern retro, as they have badass stools at the bar, and the booth seating has the feel of a 50's diner. All and all, if my wife and I come back to Grand Rapids, we will definitely not hesitate to frequent Grand Coney again. read more

I've been coming to the Coney for nearly a decade and have yet to have a truly negative experience. The level of cleanliness is unreal. I don't think I have ever seen so much as a crumb on a table. The food always comes out piping hot, and I've never had a criminally negligent waiter. Granted, I haven't strayed far from the breakfast options on the menu, but the food is always fresh, hot and there is more than enough of it. My all-time go-to favorite is the "California Omlette," which is stuffed with chopped chicken breast, fresh avocado and tons of fresh mushrooms. I always substitute the cream cheese for swiss. I really appreciate they use all fresh vegetables instead of frozen, and still manage to keep most of their menu items around $7. I've also fallen in love with the breakfast burrito and "Hangover Skillet." The latter could feed a small village for a week, and is heaped with eggs, homemade corned-beef hash, sausage gravy and just the right amount of cheddar cheese. Many friends have tried their Coney dogs and found them to be excellent and pretty authentic as well. Your dining experience will vary with the waiter, but most have worked there for years and are generally pretty amiable. read more

So, yeah, the food isn't amazing, but it is SO NICE to have an option other than Denny's for 24-hour food. Grand Rapids is not so great for all-night food, or even finding a Sunday evening meal, so any additions are welcome. I think the pancakes are great, and I like how you can order big ones, or little ones, in whatever quantity you want. Also they have great blue cheese dressing (or they used to?). Also love the burgers, because I think the texture of the bun is just right - soft and chewy. I like the wait staff, most of them have been there for a while. Friendly, patient, not intrusive or perky. There's ice cream now too, and cakes, and pies, and yummy things. I liked it back when the counter was filled with blue collar men chain smoking and playing chess; now it's more of a post-bar, sop-up-the-alcohol haven. Originally from the Detroit area, they brought their Coney dogs to West Michigan in hopes of cashing in on the new economic activity around the city. Apparently, its worked well. I love this place, and it's one of my favorite GR haunts. I can't say that I really know why - the food is usually pretty "meh" (aside from the *amazing* Koegel hot dogs), the decor is ugly, and the menu has giant Comic Sans on the cover (sorry, I'm a designer). However, none of that really matters. The waiters and waitresses are eclectic but very chill and friendly. Also, the wild mix of people you see (especially after midnight) are always fun to watch. The bottom line: Go here with good friends, preferably late at night, and try something gross and fatty (like the Michigan St. Special). Embrace the fact that you are in a dirty diner with your closest friends, and you will not regret a single minute of it. read more

The coney gets two stars because of the many nights it has been there to hold the drunken hands of me and my friends alike. Its been quite awhile since I have had a good experience there. I keep trying to go back and give it another chance. Those days are now over. If you actually like to wait around forever for your mediocre meal (mediocre is magical if you have a little substance in your system) this would be the place for you. Go home. Go to bed instead. My roommates rave about this restaurant, while I think it is just okay. It was really great when we only lived about two blocks away and could walk - saved on gas money and the food is cheapish. I mostly enjoy the breakfast menu, as I generally find it is hard to mess that stuff up, and I've had iffy results from the dinner menu, but they serve everything no matter what time of day. The staff was very friendly. I went there for dinner after an interview nearby and it was recommended as a "thing-to-do" in Grand Rapids. My waiter recommended their main hot dog dish and a milkshake. I went with the main hot dog dish "The Grand Coney Hot Dog" or something along those lines with french fries. Only took a couple min to be noticed. Ordered the special basket. Rings were ok. Hot dogs so so. Hardley any onion and a weak line of mustard down the middle. Ironic that their logo features a mustard bottle and they don't have mustard at tables or counter. I grew up in Detroit and ate regularly at the Coney's there. Talk about going way beyond what a typical hot dog joint is....Grand Coney is really a diner that happens to specialize in coney dogs. Breakfast is better here than most places, especially for the price. Kids can enjoy french toast sticks while the adults can savour the eggs served with some coney chili..mmmmmm. I love coming here late at night and there is no one here. I love the fried pickles, when I come I always try to get it. I would not suggest coming on a Friday night or a Saturday night because it gets pretty busy. I had made the mistake of coming here on a Friday night and let's just say the service was really slow. Went in last week, about 1am. The waitress said they just switched menus. (We have eaten here before) I ordered, hashbrown casserole. It smelled so bad! I tried it, it was really bad. You could see water running from it. I don't think it was cooked all the way. I told the waitress, she asked did I want something else. I said how about some American fried potatoes well done. She brings me the tiniest plate of potatoes. We got the bill, I was charged for both things. I do not mind paying for what I eat, but wow. I sent the hashbrown casserole back.
