There are golf carts that take you from one area to another as everything is pretty spread out. For example, from the main gate to the hotel is a little less than a mile. Only two free breakfast are included with Marriott status. So if you are traveling with kids, you have to pay $22 plus tip for their breakfast every morning. They have a few sand toys to share out on the beach. The large pool area does have Shallow parts for children. For adults The beach here is gorgeous though setback many yards from the hotel. The pool does not have an adult only area that I know of. There is a nice but small hot tub. You have access to all of the spa amenities every day as a guest here. There is a small gym next to the spa and a larger gym called the wellness center which is about Half a mile from the main area. Food issues The main issue here as many other of viewers have stated is the lack of decent food selection. Sea grapes is decent but only open until 5 PM. Paro gets terrible reviews and is excessively overpriced Mediterranean food. However, an Uber from the hotel to Rio Grande is not expensive around $10 and they are good restaurants, but you must do your own research. I recommend Los kioskos de luquillo Which have many food options and it is basically a beach party scene better for adult adults than kids. Service and butler service overall were spotty. Extremely Disappointed With Our Stay at Wyndham Grand Rio Mar…read more I am extremely disappointed with our experience at Wyndham Grand Rio Mar. We stayed from July 21-29, and what should have been a relaxing family vacation turned into a stressful situation that affected several days of our trip. The morning after our first night, we noticed what we initially thought were mosquito bites. However, over the next several days, the bites continued to worsen and appeared in clusters, covering areas of our legs, back, and buttocks. We became concerned that we may have been exposed to some type of room infestation and immediately reported it. I reported the issue around 7:30 AM to front desk clerk Ana. Unfortunately, the response was simply to request a deep cleaning of our room. By approximately 3:00 PM, our room still had not been addressed, which was extremely frustrating considering the seriousness of the situation. The room involved was 3010, and I strongly recommend that future guests thoroughly inspect their beds and rooms before sleeping. A front desk manager, Nick Lamboy, who identified himself as a manager, was extremely unprofessional during our conversation. Instead of showing concern, he argued that the bugs found in our room were not bed bugs according to Terminix, stating they were "no-see-ums," which he described as typical in Puerto Rico. I was born and raised in Puerto Rico and had never experienced anything like this before. The hotel provided me with a typed letter from the company stating only that they were not bed bugs, but it did not clearly explain what type of bugs were found in our room. However, if they were not concerned about an issue, it was confusing why Terminix sprayed both beds with chemicals and why the hotel offered to wash all of our clothing before moving us. We were moved from our original pool/ocean view room (3010) to room 3015, which had a rainforest/front-of-hotel view. While another front desk manager, Krysia Ramos, did remove the resort fees from our stay, she stated we were still responsible for parking fees. This situation interrupted approximately three days of our vacation. We spent valuable vacation time driving around Rio Grande and Fajardo searching for places to wash our clothes because we were worried about potentially bringing anything home with us. Security was called and took photographs of the bites and also documented black specks found on the bed. I will be including pictures of the bites so future guests can make their own judgment. After reading additional reviews, I noticed other guests have also reported concerns regarding bugs. I strongly encourage travelers to read both the positive and negative reviews before booking, especially when choosing a resort that advertises itself as a 5-star property. I also requested to speak with the general manager and sent an email regarding this situation, but I never received a response. For a resort that considers itself 5-star, the lack of urgency, communication, and customer service was extremely disappointing. A true luxury property should handle a situation like this with compassion, transparency, and immediate action. Unfortunately, I would not return to Wyndham Grand Rio Mar, and I will be sharing my experience across social media platforms so other travelers can make an informed decision. Very disappointed.

Often that's not respected, but here we didn't get any push to make up the room. Loved the beach. A clean strip of sand for miles in each direction. Not enough waves to surf, but can't fault the hotel for the weather or season. A little walk west is a protected bay where the water is as calm as a bath tub. Some folks were surf casting, but my Spanish failed me when asking what they caught. Pools were great. We spent a lot of afternoons at the adult pool. Got through books, hung out in the hot tub, took some trips down the water slide. Service could be a bit slow, but it's a tropical pool under swaying palm trees not McDonalds. Gym had machines that worked and dumbbells up to 50lbs. Would have been nicer if they went higher. Food is the real weak spot. If you are content with just fried food then you'll be fine. We're not. Options were sparse, just a salad at some of the places. And it's not nearby anything, so any other restaurants are an Uber away. Uber works, but can be spotty. There are a few easy fun places to hop to nearby. El Yunque is a rainforest with well organized tours through the canopy and nature. Luquillo is a beach with "kiosks" aka tchotchke shops and restaurants.

My husband had two pieces and told me his dish was too oily. He was not wrong. The onions were not crispy just soaked as well. Again we did not want to make a big deal and we just wanted to pay for the bill. However, we did tell our waiter about the Gramdma's steak. He was very apologetic and went to his manager. That's where Carlos the manager lost not only us as customers but the restaurant has lost 5 other individuals who would have gone back if he had handled this better. He came to us with a smile and said "You should have sent it back immediately instead of eating the two pieces". We can offer you dessert or coffee. Not wow, I did see the dish and it indeed was not up to par. Not let me take the dish off the bill. Not our kitchen was not up to snuff. He was more apologetic than the manager. We were planning on paying regardless and were chucking it up to a bad night. This is simply our experience, and I'm not interested in debating or defending how we felt. To start with the positives: before booking, I read many reviews and was excited about supporting what appeared to be a small business run by a husband and wife. The property itself is absolutely beautiful , truly breathtaking scenery. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and surprisingly cool despite there being no air conditioning. The cooling system on the beds was amazing. We also did the hike on the property, which was beautiful and definitely one of the highlights of our stay. The wife was incredibly pleasant, welcoming, and knowledgeable about hospitality. She made us feel comfortable from the beginning. Unfortunately, several interactions with the husband left us feeling uncomfortable throughout our stay. Each morning, coffee and tea were offered to guests. One morning, since we planned to hike, we politely declined coffee multiple times. Despite saying no several times, the offer continued in a way that felt oddly tense, as though our declining offended him. During conversation, he openly mentioned that his wife often tells him he comes across as rude. He also praised her hospitality skills, and honestly, I completely agreed with him on that point. What really unsettled me happened when we were signing waivers for the hike. He handed me the waiver with a pen attached. After I passed the paperwork to my husband, my husband reached for the pen, and instead of handing it to him directly, the pen was tossed toward him. Whether intentional or not, the interaction immediately rubbed me the wrong way and changed the energy for me completely. For context, we are a Black couple, and while I cannot say what anyone's intentions were, some of the interactions throughout our stay felt uncomfortable enough that it became hard not to notice. Especially in the way my husband was treated at times. Another example: he offered to send horseback riding information to me. Since I didn't have my phone nearby, I asked twice for the information to be sent to my husband instead. Despite that, the information was still sent to me. The final issue involved the laundry area. We were washing a small load of clothes and some towels during the allowed hours. A few minutes into drying, he opened the dryer himself, removed my personal clothing including bras and underwear -- and left them sitting on top of the washer. He later sent a text saying the dryer was overloaded and making noise, although the load was not packed tightly and was smaller than the load left behind by the previous guests. What bothered me most was not the concern about the machine, but the fact that my personal undergarments were handled instead of simply asking us to adjust the load ourselves. None of these incidents individually caused a confrontation because we chose to remain respectful and calm throughout our stay. However, taken together, they left a stain on what otherwise could have been an excellent experience. Afterward, I revisited some of the lower rated reviews and noticed that several other guests also mentioned discomfort with the husband's demeanor and communication style. I also noticed responses to criticism often seemed defensive. Again, this review is not written to argue with the owners or invite debate from strangers online. This was our experience, and no one gets to tell us how we should feel about the interactions we had during our stay.

I loved the balcony and watching the ocean from so close! Beautiful sunrise too. Check-in is more laid-back, so don't expect a traditional front desk experience with someone always present. That said, the communication was excellent. I really appreciated that they reached out via text ahead of time to ask about my arrival--it was a thoughtful touch. I arrived earlier than the standard check-in time (as I had mentioned), and there were no issues at all. When I rang the bell, a staff member promptly came out to assist me and greeted me with a warm smile. There's also a very popular restaurant and bar on-site with an amazing-looking menu. Unfortunately, we didn't get the chance to try it this time, but it's definitely on the list for our next visit. The location is another big plus--easy to find, right on the beach, and conveniently close to a Walgreens and other nearby beaches to explore. There were activities by the pool and the atmosphere was very relaxing. I will come back here again. There is a $20 a day daily parking fee. Valet is more expensive.
