On our second night we went to go to bed at 10 PM and pulled back the covers and bed bugs scattered. I called Mrs Montgomery and told her about the problem and she offered no help and no recommendations about where we could find a clean place to stay at 10 PM on a Saturday night and she responded that maybe the Holiday Inn Express. She made no effort to help us or cared about our situation. I managed to capture one of the bed bugs and left it in the sink for them; on Monday after the cabin had been cleaned they had their exterminator come out and wrote a report of no live or dead bed bugs (what happened to the one floating in the sink?). and no bed bug activity. I asked for a full refund and was told that we stayed at that disgusting place Friday night and during the day Saturday so they were not going to refund any of our money. So my wife and I are just out $472.23, Happy Anniversary to us!! The cover on the tub was made by owners, it's not the regular one that you just fold, it's VERY hard to take it off and put it back on. When you sign the contract they will warn that if you break it they will charge you a fee. There's no dishwasher. No closets or chests to put your stuff. No blankets. The futon is VERY uncomfortable and old. The only heating system was the gas fireplace and of course all the heat naturally went up, so upstairs in the bedroom was hot as hell but downstairs was very cold. Also if you check out one minute late, you will be charged too. I spent 20 minutes signing their contract and listening to their numerous warnings There are other 2 cabins next to each other, so there is no privacy. We've been to other cabins through different owners in this is the worst one.

The cabin was fairly secluded, but not too far from shopping... It's in a back road, and though there were some other dwellings nearby, we never felt intruded upon or otherwise near anyone else (note: we were there in late winter, so the trees were bare... In the late spring/summer/fall, this wouldn't be a factor). The cabin itself was FLAWLESSLY maintained and equipped... We had plenty of firewood, propane, toilet paper, dishes, utensils, etc. Everything was clean and in it's place... The kitchen, bathroom, outdoor propane grill, and hot tub were immaculate... Decor was just what it should be; log cabin charming... Our cell phones had no service, but internet and satellite TV worked reliably... Even had a blue-ray player and a small but adequate sound-system that we could hear on the back porch while having a romantic dinner al fresco... Clean and functional bathroom with shower, bath, modern toilet, large capacity hot water tank, first aid kit, plunger, vacuum, etc... Seriously, better equipped than even your better motor lodges.. There are even some personal touches/fun games that the proprietors play with their guests, if you wish to participate (Just make sure to read the guest book/literature that is left for you!) :-) A day spa, this is not.. But for a TRUE quaint, "home-away-from-home," it is... We WILL be back, and WILL recommend to friends... Well done!!!

To my surprise, there was still an available time slot so I quickly booked it and waited with anticipation for our time to arrive. We checked in at the front office where we were greeted politely and were given instructions on how to get to, enter and use our sauna pod. The Pods are located right across the street from the Chalets so I was worried at first about having adequate privacy but once we entered the Pod I felt I was transported to the middle of the woods. My favorite part of the Pod was that it was Bluetooth equipped so I was able to play some folk music over the speakers to enhance my woodsy experience. Towels and bottled water are also provided for you in the Pod. We booked an hour, which I thought might be too long in the heat for me personally but after taking the recommended breaks, it didn't feel long enough. We emerged from our Pod soaking in sweat but refreshed and with every endorphin in our bodies firing. It was a fabulous experience!

We arrived at Hocking Hills Saturday afternoon, hiked and hung out at the lodge. We then went to our cabin, arriving around 7:00 pm tired and ready for a campfire. But...the driveway was too steep for my SUV to climb. We attempted 4 times and gave up, there was no way my car was going to make it up the hill. We couldn't even see the cabin it was up a huge hill and around a bend. The reservation warned of a steep incline so I called the office when I made the reservation and was told that its only a problem in inclement weather - that was not true! I have a 2024 SUV, I do not have an old car that would be questionable. We couldn't get cell service to call the office so we left and drove to the nearest hotel thinking we would find somewhere else to stay. I reached a lady at Cabins by the Caves and was told we should have been able to get up the hill - her car gets up the hill with no problem and so does the cleaning ladies. Well - my car couldn't and I wasn't going to burn up the engine trying. She eventually gave me my money back and told us "never call again". We tried 4 hotels in the area, all were booked. We had no choice but to drive all the way back home. Needless to say our weekend was a bust. We lost money on our zipline tour and we lost our weekend. DO NOT RENT THIS CABIN WITHOUT A 4 WHEEL DRIVE!!

From booking to check-in, the process was so easy and pain-free!! Our first visit, and we are smitten! Although the serenity offered by this beautiful property is shared by seven well-appointed and unique cabins, it felt like we were the only ones here during our 4-night, 3-day stay at "The Observatory." This "cabin" is better described as a beautiful small home! Perched on the hill as you enter the retreat property, it is completely secluded. Surrounded by trees, but not engulfed, there is open sky and lots of wide open grassy areas and native pollinator gardens. The cabin itself is exquisite, designed with romantic get-away in mind, a wonderful retreat for any couple to relax and reconnect. In addition to a unique shower area (!!), the king bed is very comfortable, the large kitchen has everything you need (including a 4-person dining table), and the living room area has a gas fireplace and a comfortable seating area with power-reclining sofa. Outside in back is a hot tub, a decent size heated pool (with several seating and sun bathing options and different color lighting options at night!), a good sized cold plunge pool (that openly mocks you if you don't try it out!) and a very large and nicely groomed fire pit area. In front, the covered porch has a gas grill that is hooked up directly to the gas line and a table with seating for two. The place is immaculate inside and out. And, as if the serenity, privacy and many upscale furnishings and amenities offered at this cabin aren't enough, there are miles of cut trails to hike through Cherry Ridge's entire private acreage of trees and ravines. The cherry on top (!) is the superior level of customer service provided ... not just customer service but GUEST service that is personable, kind and caring ALL the time. From booking the property through check-in, the staff's communication was prompt, welcoming, thoughtful and thorough. And after check-in, the same. They were so quick to respond to our every request or question and so thoughtful about notifying us when the mowers or pool guy needed to pop by. You get the feeling they truly value your business and are glad you are here! In addition to offering an early check-in time (which we purchased), they also offer many unique and thoughtful add-on amenities you can purchase to enhance your stay, including an elopement package! We took advantage of several of their offerings (all first-class and/or delicious), including a freshly prepared heat-and-eat Italian Nite dinner that was outstanding! There is a peaceful vibe that permeates this place, that comes from land that has been, and still is, well-loved, respected, appreciated and very thoughtfully and purposefully developed and cultivated. Every inch of this entire property is pristeen and immaculate. No small detail has been overlooked or held back in the property development and design (sprinkled with touches of whimsy everywhere you look!) in order to provide an upscale, but not pretentious, comfortable, peaceful getaway for the fortunate people who discover this hidden gem. Don't hesitate to book a cabin if you have the opportunity. The only negative thing about booking a cabin here is that you eventually have to go back home!

Newer LG appliances (filtered water & ice maker in the fridge was a plus), cool bathroom, cozy oversized chair, great fireplace on rear covered deck and amazing rockers w/cup holders on front and rear porches. Now upon opening the door, the first thing I said was, "WOW! That's a weird smell." Unfortunately, we were smelling sewer smells the entire time we were there. I contacted the email from the site the first night and they responded the next day. While I was in the bathroom tub (shades open) a gentleman put his ladder on the side of the bathroom window and started climbing up, while someone chatted with my husband at the door. Needless to say I was mortified and embarrassed that we weren't initially made aware that someone was coming until after they had arrived. The person climbing the ladder definitely got an eye full.....Anyway, they said the vent pipes weren't removed once the cabins construction was done and the traps may have gotten dry. We heard them sawing something & then they left soon after. We ran water, as instructed after they cut the tops off the pipes and were advised Joey would be back with a top to cover another pipe on the roof. The smell initially got a little better, but within a couple hours it was back full force. We again contacted Rob again, who sent Joey back out to address the issue. This time, he put bleach down the drains, gave a can of fabreeze, a pumpkin candle and 2 renuzit toilet scents. Now, we had been burning candles in all the rooms from the moment we arrived and kept the front & rear doors open to try and air out the smell. NONE of that helped. It even began to stink outside, so no handing out on the front or rear porch unless we needed cell signal. So although the thought was nice, 1 single wick candle, 1 can of fabreeze and some toilet scents were NOT going to cut it. The smell was not as strong after the bleach, but never did go away. In fact, when we ran the dishwasher before leaving, the smell returned full force throughout the cabin, especially in the bathroom and rear porch area. THE SMELL ALONE RUINED OUR ATTEMPTED ROMANTIC GETAWAY. While I appreciate them trying to solve this issue, there wasn't any follow-up to confirm resolution. I had to keep updating Rob. At least Rob did say he was "sorry it's doing what it's doing" regarding the odor. Honestly, I cannot begin to explain to you how utterly disgusting it is to constantly smell sewage inside and in the immediate surrounding exterior of one's "luxury retreat." Not once in the decade plus of coming to HH have we EVER had this happen......we've stayed with MANY companies, but this is a first. Lastly a few things could have been done better. When we arrived, it would have been nice if the front and rear covered decks were swept. There was a lot of dead bugs, leaves & bottle caps from alcohol (ppl before us) laying around on the decks. I swept that up myself, not a deal breaker. There were excessive dead bugs on the living room floor - I also swept up, not a deal breaker we're in the woods. The issue is that it made me question how clean the cabin actually was. Therefore, I took it upon myself to clean the cabin with the products I'd brought to be sure. The hot tub, while up to temp at 102 degrees had brownish grey water and looked filthy. VERY UNINVITING, especially when the pool chemicals were neatly portioned out and could have been dumped into the tub when it was prepped for the next guest. I get that the water may be discolored from minerals, but this was just a dirty hot tub. I make that assumption as when we took off the lid, there wasn't even the faintest hint of chemicals from the water (which one can usually smell when they've been added) upon removal of the lid. Overall, we wanted to love this cabin, but didn't. The constant, horrendous sewer smell was a deal breaker and for the cost, I NEVER EVER expected to have an unresolved odor issue continue
