Personal size build your own pizza

Brass Rail Pizza Bar is a go-to spot for us when we're in Detroit for concerts and sporting events since it's close to Little Caesars Arena and the stadiums. They also usually take reservations via OpenTable, which is really helpful when you have a large group or want to make sure you can get a table before an event. Recently we stopped in before the Incubus show at LCA and grabbed a bite to eat. Our group of four was seated right away and we chose to sit on the patio which is out front on the sidewalk. The menu has pizza, salads, burgers, and tons of beer on tap. Nate got a personal sized build your own pizza, which we shared. The pizza was tasty and a great size for a light dinner. The personal size (9") pizza starts at $12 which isn't bad. Our food was pretty quick to come out and the only issue was being asked for money while sitting out on the sidewalk patio. Not a huge deal but I know some people might be put off by that. Sidenote, once we came here before a Red Wings game and sat at a table near Flavor Flav! That was super fun and he was taking photos with people.

This place is the Detroit icon, definitely some place that you need to stop in before you hit any of the sports events or if you need a pizza afterwards. The staff was friendly, however we went in very early in the day and it wasn't very busy and either was the staff. Which meant they all gathered back in the corner chatting. I understand that the bar wasn't full but then again it didn't look like it was opened when we came in and there was no one to welcome us it took a little bit for us to get our first drink. I believe that the place has just been overhauled and remodeled, it has definitely lost some of its character from the olden days, let's hope that it can maintain the business it needs to stay open.

We customized a chicken bacon ranch pizza and it turned out amazing. Their service was quick and I love the location of this pizza bar- so close to night clubs and stadiums in downtown. The prices were also great and they had happy hour deals

We had a surprise party for my cousin upstairs at this place. They have a nice party venue, everything turned out great. We had food catered but the bar tender was amazing.

Local, fresh, friendly staff and walkable...perfect for a day trip in Detroit. We happened to be in Detroit for the Browns game (due to the weather the Bills/Browns played in detroit). The Brass was packed, but the staff literally busted their butts to seat everyone in a timely manner. The kitchen pumped out fresh, house made pizza, wings, salads, tacos and more. Everything was hot, reasonably priced and delicious. Definitely worth the wait.

Based on the reviews, I wasn't expecting the pizza to be as good as it was. It's not the best pizza in Detroit, but it's definitely great pizza. I like that you can customize pizzas. The beer selection is vast and good. Service was friendly and the wait was not long. A good pizza option in downtown Detroit!

I know Brass Rail is highly regarded but I was greatly disappointed. I had a personal pizza made as a calzone. It seemed to me I got crust and grease, couldn't finish it, left hungry. The service was very good, we had two servers (I assume the one was being trained) and they were on top of everything but to be fair, we were one of two tables. I hope they stay successful as it is downtown and we are new to having a downtown dining scene but I won't be back.

Stopped in with a group of work buddies and we ordered several pizzas and they were super good! They had a good selection of beers too which my team liked as well, definitely a plus. I would definitely come back again for sure.

For my pre-carbohydrate load for the Detroit International Half Marathon, I ordered from Brass Rail Pizza Bar via Yelp with Grubhub delivery. At the time, Brass Rail Pizza Bar was one of the few restaurants within a radius of my hotel that offered delivery with a reasonable fee and no minimum ordering fee. Via Yelp, it was ranked number 11 within a radius of my hotel and noted for some of its vegan options. As a vegetarian, the only item on the menu that had my interest was the Vegetarian Pizza which was what I ordered. I would have considered the Vegetarian Calzone, but there were no images shared of it that would have helped gain my interest, so I did not bother. It took forty-nine minutes from the time my order was acknowledged by Grubhub to the arrival of it at my hotel. The deliverer who delivered my food contacted me from a Chicago area code which resulted in a friendly exchanged greeting and smile once encountered in the hotel lobby. The size of the Vegetarian Pizza was surely satisfying for me. And it was only a 9" pizza. I could only imagine what the other sizes look like if that was a 9". I enjoyed it entirely; it was neatly presented, fresh, topped with an ample number of vegetables, and delicious! I assure you that all of it was eaten the next day. It was last night's dinner turned into the next day's lunch post completion of me running the Detroit International Half Marathon. All in all, I had a pleasant ordering experience with Brass Rail Pizza Bar. As aforementioned I enjoyed my meal and would surely order from again during any of my ventures back to Detroit. ~Blessings~ Thomas G

Here is the lay of the land: Check in at the little red table in the center of the outdoor courtyard if you want "full service". - which means eating and drinking at a table with wait staff. It is not seat yourself at the outdoor tables, like we originally thought. There is a nice sized bar indoors and seating at the bar is first come first served. We ordered several of the small plate "snacks" and I can tell you that the hummus is not to be missed. It is served with (homemade?) tortilla chips that are absolutely addictive. They have lots of choices for wine, beer, and cocktails. Towards the back entrance of the property, there is a drink truck where you can also order "walkaway" food and drinks. Not entirely sure where you sit with the food/drinks you order, as most of the seating seemed reserved for full service. Additionally, there is a photo booth for pics (long line) and Warda Patisserie is right next door and accessible through a garden walkway.

The inside restaurant area is also beautiful. We wanted to sit inside at the bar, so we waited for some seats to open up. If you want to sit outside, all you have to do is order at the bar and they'll serve your drinks in plastic cups for you to take outside. The rhubarb pie punch was so delicious I had to order it twice! Probably one of my favorite cocktails I've ever had. I also ordered the maurixio cattelan, which tasted like ginger ale. For a snack before dinner, we chose to get the burrata and it was so refreshing. The service was great and our bartender was super friendly! The logo with the little lamb is adorable. I bought one of their wine glasses with their logo on it too for just $10.

We stopped in on a Thursday night in January and the kitchen was open late, which was a huge relief. Service was quick and friendly, though a little snarky. When I suggested "German with German beers on tap" the decision was made. We lucked out with our arrival on a busy night as the place is first come, first served and it is not at all very large. Three or four tables, two community tables and a dozen seats along the bar. And if you're not inside, you're queued up outside. We got the last two tables. Beer? They have all the big German beers on tap in large and larger glasses. Or if you want a tin? They have that too. They even have the good NA beers if you prefer. I started off with the Schöfferhofer Grapefruit Hefeweizen from Dortmund Germany (not very Germany purity law pure, but it's hot). On a hot day after walking too many streets of Detroit, this was a treat. With dinner, the Hefeweizen from Brauerei Pinkus Müller from Münster, Germany. Both cold and delicious and refreshing. For dinner, I chose the wurst platter, taking off the potato pancakes (I'm sorry) and substituting red cabbage. They were deliciously grilled, served hot and I enjoyed them very much. The only miss was that they didn't have their own mustard. I had to use the table mustard which was a bummer. Great service, we were never rushed though the serving staff was trying very hard to keep up with the flow. It was a fabulous meal and my great Yelp reputation with my colleagues continues.
