I can't believe I never stepped inside one of these pastry shops. So many cookies. So many cakes. I tried this raspberry triangular flaky thing (forgot name). I'm not a big fan of flaky things, but I wanted to try it. There's a lot of raspberry stuff inside, but I could barely taste it. Definitely going back to try everything they make! The strawberry shortcake looked delicious--but it didn't match up in taste. It was REALLLY fluffy cake though. And the strawberries? Yum. And the gel on the cake? Yum. And the cream all over? I didn't touch it (never do!). They charge per pound (forgot the rate). Update: Chocolate / Vanilla Creme Tart - Tried both of them. I was expecting it to be warm and that when I cut it in half, the creme center would ooze out. But sadly, it didn't. The tarts were cold. I always crave something sweet after I eat. So for lunch the other day, after I went to Krispy Pizza, All of their offerings are pretty pricey (butter cookies are $10/lb). I went with like an apple empanada ($1.50). That's not what it was (since this is an Italian bakery), but it was very similar. It was good. It was hard to discern the quality/type of the apples from everything else going on. I was done with this in 2.5 bites, for the money, it could have been bigger. This place seems all about cookies, which in my opinion are very expensive. I've been to multiple bakeries like this one, I never want to try the cookies because you never know how long they have been there or how long they keep. Some bakeries at the end of the day have crummy stale cookies, my husband and I went after work at 6ish and drove the girl crazy picking cookies. This is a current review. My wife and daughter met with Antonio to discuss a sweet 16th birthday cake. Our biggest concern with these decorative cakes is the actual taste of the cake. Most places design awesome cakes but make them days in advance and the cake is stale. Antonio ensured my wife he makes the cake the night before. I love this place!!!!!! This is such a old-time neighborhood spot and I love coming here whenever I'm in the mood for some good ol chocolate cake or tiramisu. They sell biscuits, cakes, and pastries. The large ones are 2.25 and the small ones are 1.75 - this price is amazing considering everywhere I go in the city charges upwards of 5-6 dollars for a slice of cake. Grandma's Bakery isn't anything "special" when it comes to their pastries, but it's certainly home-y and I find the name to be very fitting. To be quite honest, sometimes you do need a place like this when everywhere else is trying to sell something specialized or overtly fancy to attract their customers. Sometimes you just need a good, old-fashioned napoleon pastry and coffee cheesecake. Last weekend we were in our annual Dyker Heights Xmas lights tour and wanted to try this bakery out. We got regular and chocolate cannoli, napoleon, sfogliatella, and a large lobster tail. I could not believe how disappointing they were. They were all VERY stale and left a nasty after taste. It was inedible. I suspect they were either made at least 10 days or 2 weeks ago. The reason for the 1 star is because the young woman who helped us was extremely friendly. Otherwise, there is no star in the review. Grandma Bakery should really price their goods accordingly, maybe half price for old stuff so as to warn buyers they get what they pay for, and help move goods faster. Beware! read more

so i called my friend one morning and made him get out of bed to drive to bensonhurst so we could go on a cannoli crawl. this crawl involved trying 8 different cannolis from different places in the area. after deciding that we had been walking too long (approximately 5-7 minutes) without trying a new cannoli (that may be a gross underestimation). grandma's bakery rocked up in front of us so we stopped in. the cookies looked good and they had my favorite cookies (the lace ones with the chocolate inside) - which weren't memorable at all our initial reaction was: the cream tasted like icing, too sweet, weird sprinkles on it made it awkward however, upon further discussion, we learned that 1.. we were slowly but surely becoming ridiculous cannoli snobs and 2. all ricotta filling should be a little sweet but more creamy than sweet. 3. weird sprinkles are a norm and are either peppermint pieces or slices of citrus, neither of which we found appealing not my favorite bakery and definitely not worth traveling to bensonhurst for read more

I requested a soccer sheet cake for my son's 10th birthday. I spoke to Regina on the phone and she gave me great suggestions on blending cake flavor with icing and filling. My son was a huge part of the process because it was his cake, after all, and she was wonderfully accommodating with his silly request for the cake writing. The bakery made good on its promise to deliver the cake one hour before the party began. The cake was sensational. To say it was a huge hit with the kids and adults is just understating it. Great bakery the bread is extremely fresh and delicious. Always get my hey hero bread here to make great home made cold cuts. Italian bread is very tasty for pasta and soups or by itself. January 5th was my daughters 2nd birthday, and I went to the bakery that I usually use to order her cake. I was given such a hard time, no one wanted to be bothered, I guess because they wanted to close. They dusted and vacuumed around me, and were no help at all, so I got into my car, drove a little further down 13th Ave., and decided to try Grandma's Bakery... Best thing I ever did, the girls were very helpful, and patient, they were able to give me what I wanted, and the cake was absolutely delicious. I tried some rainbow cookies in Key Food (not where I would normally expect to find incredible fresh bakery cookies) and loved them, the store manager told me they come from Grandma's Bakery. Next occasion I had that required some pastries and cookies I ran right over there. Once again the rainbow cookies were incredible I bought a mix of cookies and mini pastries and I can honestly say everyone was impresses. The standouts were the rainbow cookies (of course) and the mini cappuccino cheesecake. I also noticed a newspaper page of coupons on the front door. I live in the neighborhood and head over when I need bread or rolls. I did order a birthday cake and it was fresh and delicious. On the other hand, I bought cupcakes once. They looked great but were stale. My husband brought them back and after some argument , got a refund. The butter cookies are okay, but the biscuits are cheaper and better. I come by here occasionally, I always stop by to get bread in the morning, on top of that their birthday cakes are delicious and creatively made as well as always fresh and never dry or boring. When I want dessert I always get half a pound of 7 layers because they are really good, it isnt too sweet and its soft and quite affordable.Usually if I'm lucky I'll get my hands on some coupons from the marketplace and encourage myself to buy more since I'm confident that I will be satisfied with my purchase. Dont understand why they package their desserts like Dunkin donuts does when you ask for two donuts. Worst place to order a cake. Order a cake for my wife birthday Friday for Tuesday pick up after 6 pm. When I went to pick up after 7 pm they lost the receipt so my wife had no cake.
