Our team stopped at Hometown Hangout in Leitchfield, KY to eat between games. We obviously expected that serving a group might take a little longer than normal, but what happened was ridiculous. After approximately TWO HOURS, several of our girls STILL had not received their meals. We couldn't wait any longer because the team had another game to play. We told the restaurant to put the remaining meals in to-go boxes and asked for everyone's checks so we could pay and leave. That's when an already awful experience became completely unacceptable. Every child's check had an automatic 18% gratuity added -- INCLUDING THE GIRLS WHO HAD WAITED TWO HOURS AND STILL HADN'T RECEIVED THEIR FOOD. We asked for the gratuity to be removed. They REFUSED. We explained that some of these girls were traveling without their parents and had limited money to get them through the day. We then made an even simpler request: at least remove the gratuity from the checks of the girls WHO NEVER EVEN RECEIVED THEIR FOOD WHILE WE WERE THERE. They REFUSED AGAIN. That's the part people should know before deciding to bring a team or large group here. A kitchen getting overwhelmed? We can understand that. A long wait? Frustrating, but it happens. But insisting that CHILDREN pay an automatic 18% gratuity after waiting approximately TWO HOURS -- including kids who had to leave before their food even arrived -- is something entirely different. If you're considering Hometown Hangout for a sports team, tournament group, school group, or large family, ASK ABOUT THEIR AUTOMATIC GRATUITY POLICY BEFORE YOU ORDER.
