Excellent packaging and service but the soup itself was just OK. Broth is salty. Challah was excellent.

This was one of the most disappointing food purchases I've ever made. I placed an order totaling over $250 several weeks in advance so it would arrive in Idaho on time for Christmas. Despite ample lead time and premium pricing, the delivery was completely mishandled. The package arrived late, during the afternoon hours of Xmas Eve day, no one was available to receive the package by then, and it was rescheduled for delivery several days later, with confusing/misleading tracking information posted. When the order finally arrived, 2 containers of soup were fully spoiled, the latkes were missing, and the only usual items was a challah bread and a cake. The rest was a total loss. This was meant to be a meaningful holiday gift, a comforting box of food to enjoy for the holiday. Instead, it turned out to be a waste of money and unnecessary frustration. Paying this much for food that arrives late, is incomplete, and/or is unsafe to eat is unacceptable by any standard. There is no excuse for this level of failure. To top it off, Customer Service was unhelpful and unapologetic. I would strong urge others to NOT order from this company, particularly if the time matters or if the food is intended as a gift. read more

I was looking for a gift for a sick friend that wasn't flowers or Edible Arrangement. I found Grandmas Chicken Soup. I have sent it twice in about a month. Both times I got the Chicken Noodle Soup with a loaf of the Bread. Both times it arrived on time and my friends loved it. This is a review for a package that had a few things in it. Prepackaged things - chocolate candy, apple sauce, cake were fine. Soup was rotten and bread was stale, enough to make both inedible. The one star review is not just for the food - it happens sometimes, things go bad, etc - but for customer service. If there is a mistake that happened, do not call your customers in the morning, trying to shift responsibility for a bad product and then leave it hanging. Bad call. Instead of an opportunity to create a lifetime customer by taking responsibility and making the experience a good one, you did the opposite. read more

I placed an order on Wednesday, June 4th for delivery on Monday, June 9th to send to a relative who recently suffered the lose of their beloved spouse. Was notified that the delivery would not happen until the Wednesday, June 11th. Was given no reason for the delay. According to the website if an order is received by 2:30 EST it should go out (not expedited) ship out on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. The delivery time keeps changing as well. Again, very disappointed with my order. Will think twice before ordering something from here again. read more

Recently my daughter was sick, land I ordered several things from Grandma's Chicken Soup. On the day the order shipped, my daughter was admitted to the hospital - and wouldn't be home for the delivery. I emailed them, and not only did they respond, I received a phone call! They were able to stop the delivery, and will hold it until she gets home - at which time I can have it sent. I've been ordering grandma's chicken soup for well over twelve years. As we all traveled and lived and found friends across our country, keeping in touch with them is not easy. Yes, cards will so do. But what do you do with close friends and relatives separated by thousands of miles? Especially when a calamity strikes, or illness, and you want something special? So back in 2007, I was sick with the flu and someone dear to me sent me a half gallon of Grandma's Chicken Soup. Which was my only nourishment for two days. Then I realized I could do the same for others. I've used them for several friends' illnesses. I've used them for bereavement. For a friend while on a move when his moving company was late. Their chicken soup menu has been tastefully been expanded with breads, challahs, and even mugs that say "Jewish Penicillin ". My favorite is the chicken noodle soup with matzah balls. Besides the chicken soup nutrition, the added and tasty carbs make for a good meal for an ill person. Their soup is not high on salt, definitely you must add salt to taste. Shipping is efficient and the soup arrives solidly frozen, ready to pop in the freezer for safekeeping or thaw in the fridge for consumption. Their worth during the pandemic is serious. I placed an order on December 5th to be delivered on December 9th. Today is December 10th and 12:00pm, and it now says it is: "on its way" I contacted the owner who informed me that the request for December 9th was for "the shipping date" not the for the delivery date." Also, they had a problem with "UPS" but did not bother to notify me. This order was placed as a birthday gift and a family of 5. I am very disappointed not only in the vocabulary that you are supposed to understand: "delivery, shipping, processing, on its way, problem with UPS." I am so disappointed and would not recommend the services as they are not reliable, no apologies or understanding the customer may be disappointed when they have a problem with UPS shipping. read more

No one in their right mind would order unsealed soup! Anyone can tamper with it at any time. Customer service, Betsy, was extremely rude too when I called to question why there's no perf seal nor foil seal overtop of the soup as anyone could open it and tamper with it at any time. The response received was that this his how they've always done it and if I wasn't comfortable then, don't eat it! Really?! No apologies, no remediation, just matter of fact as they don't care because they already receive their money. This place a joke, don't waste your time purchasing here and no, it's not the norm not to seal food products despite what they say! I feel bad that someone bought this as a gift for me as it went into the garbage but zero safety precautions are taken here so why risk it?! My father got a gift box after spinal surgery. The chicken soup: white meat had bones in it, and he choken on one. We couldn't do the heimlich maneuver, because spinal surgery, but I was able to dislodge it from his throat. It was very scary. There is WAY more dark meat than white meat, and it looks like fecal matter floating around, not chicken. The chunks are too big for soup. It's disgusting. I know who sent this, and they paid way too much, snd would be heartbroken if they saw what was actually delivered vs the misrepresentative photos on this site. The order couldn't be delivered to an apartment complex office due to the virus. The apartment complex has put new procedures in place for deliveries. Grandmas chicken soup would not redeliver to the same complex. I was more than happy to pay for another delivery charge, but they wanted me to replace and pay again for a completely new order while they keep the money from the original order. My Mother sent me a care package of soup, bread and cake from this store. The first thing I gravitated toward was the bread and soup but my adult brain lost a war with my inner child and I ate some of the cake. Amazing cake! Some of the best chocolate cake I've ever had. I had received this as a get well- looooooved it and ordered it as a package- 1 every three months. It comes frozen and needs to be refrigerated when received. I was away and my building did not realize this and when i returned it had all melted and was no longer edible- i called the company to see if maybe it was still good to eat -the owner answered and insisted on sending me out another who thing free of charge. I ordered from grandmas chicken noodle soup during COVID 19 to send to a family member due to her husband passing. The family member was just getting out the hospital from 14 days and was on a special diet. I ordered with shipping overnight. The package did not get there until 4 days later. I was told to call the family member to see if they received the soup with ice in it. Ridiculous you are asked to call after 4 days being in a hot truck or warehouse. Next I told them that she received it without ice. They stated they would send another shipment out. The shipment has not gone out. I asked for my overnight shipping back. A close family member died, and I ordered for her 20 year old daughter so she wouldn't have to worry about food. I paid $85. to ship it next day. I received a confirmation email saying it would arrive 4 days after I ordered it. I called customer service and they blamed UPS. I said, although it is not your fault, I would have chosen to do something else had I known it would take this long, and asked if I could at least be refunded the shipping cost. They said no. Great customer service. Instead of losing the shipping cost, now they can deal with losing the whole cost when I call my bank to dispute the entire charge. Because of covid UPS delayed my package by more than two days making the perishable items somewhat questionable as to whether or not I should eat it. I received this package today from my boyfriend who has been away for the last few months. The last few weeks have been really hard for myself and my family. It's been one thing after another... This was the best thing I've ever gotten in the mail!! Much better then flowers and edible arrangements. First let me say that I've never received something packaged with such care and thought. It came with dry ice and each item in its own compartment. I received chicken soup with matzo balls, latkas, and fresh baked challah bread. Let me say everything was delicious and fresh. The challah has to be the best tasting one I've ever had. The latkas came in a ready for the oven tray with instructions clearly printed on the package. The soup made me feel warm and happy. Last month when I was supposed to have an important client meeting, the meeting was unfortunately cancelled because my client called and told me had the flu. As a good will gesture, I sent him an order (I believe a half gallon) of chicken noodle soup to his home near Chicago. The response was terrific. Not only did he tell me that the gift was original and thoughtful, he told me the soup itself was the best he ever had. Based on that recommendation, I got some for my family, and my client was right. It's really good. Lots of chicken and vegetables, and the noodles have a good consistency....not mushy. The other thing I liked is the soup broth is savory, and not salty. I have not tried their other items yet. Now I pick it up near where I work in Woburn at David's Famous restaurant for me and my family, and I use their website to order it as a gift. Very easy. Very good. It's a Get Well card with a punch! I'd recently recovered from a two-week bout with one of those nasty, rot-gut viruses (not the flu) often described on TV ads for curative potions as that "coughing, sneezing, aching" variety of colds. My daughter, who lives on the west coast and can't come east to take care of Mom; googled "chicken soup delivery" and came up with this vendor in Massachusetts. Gotta tell ya--a brilliant idea! Although my mother used to make the best "Jewish Penicillin" in our neighborhood, I was never a fan of this soup (except for when I got sick and dutifully consumed it). I had a question regarding the product, e-mailed them at 11PM the Friday evening I received it, and got a response early the next morning. I'd call that excellent customer service. Grandma's Chicken soup was by far the best I've ever tasted. Not overly fatty with limp vegetables, but a superb mixture of just the right flavored chicken broth, seasoned perfectly. It was filled with carrots, celery, and onions, which weren't overcooked (as though they gave up their lives for the chicken), and broad noodles. Plus, to my surprise, it also contained lots of big chunks of tasty, white meat chicken--not like those cardboard chicken pieces that have the life sucked out of them. The well-insulated package also included an incredibly most and tasty, thick-cut, banana-nut bread, which was great with all the tea I drank. When I felt better, I indulged by making French toast from the few remaining slices. Their ads say, "a delicious alternate to flowers". You betcha! My sister was diagnosed with breast cancer 6 weeks after my mom was confirmed with a return of her breast cancer. I went to care for my mom but felt so bad that I could not be with my sister. I sent her one of the Get Well baskets following her surgery. She still has to soft cozy blanket and used it when she went to chemo.
