So my husband made the journey across town and brought home a few treats from Happy Cake, including a chocolate coffee dessert shaped like a Starbucks cup with a chocolate lid. When my daughter popped the chocolate lid off to eat it, we found mold growing inside the dessert. This is absolutely unacceptable for any food business -- I don't care if it's "my people" or not. For context, we bought the dessert on Sunday and discovered the mold on Monday. Fresh, properly stored desserts do not grow visible mold overnight. That means this item was already old, improperly stored, or handled without proper food safety standards. None of those possibilities are okay, especially when the dessert was meant for a child. We didn't bother driving all the way back to the store -- it's too far -- but we threw out that dessert and every other treat we bought immediately. I'm just grateful my daughter didn't take a bite first. I cannot trust the freshness or safety of their products and will not be buying anything from Happy Cake again. And if anyone thinks I'm exaggerating, I'm posting a photo so you can see exactly what we found.

We were celebrating our book club anniversary, and they surprised us with a lit pastry and a celebratory song. It was such a special touch and made the brunch even more memorable. I would like to begin by saying I am not a "yelper", but I feel the need to share my experiences with Grandma's Secrets. I could not speak highly enough of the customer service provided by Regina. She was patient, and personable, and I felt as if I were speaking to a close friend or family member, which I believe is important because desserts are for special personal occasions. She provided various treats for a dessert bar at my baby shower. My FB account was buzzing the following week with people asking about her AMAZING brownies. I later ordered a red velvet cake, which was in one word: Delectable. It was a true blue red velvet, better than the acclaimed "cake man" which is in my neighborhood. I am now a customer for life! My mother purchased a cake for my job promotion party and I have been hooked ever since. They did all our corporate functions (the Dream Cake and blueberry pies are to die for), and actually delivered to Far Rockaway Queens, talk about great customer service! I then began to use them personally, for my wedding cake, my baby showers, and now for my husband and children's birthdays. I recommend Grandmas Secrets to everybody and for any occassion. My son who lives in Manhattan became engaged And they decided to get married shortly after. I had a very limited time to make arrangements and living in WNY, I was not familiar with any NYC bakeries. After searching on the Internet, I found Grandma's Secrets. Her website offered mini wedding cakes so I contacted Regina. She was able to make the cake with very little notice. It was delivered well in time of the reception. It looked beautiful and was absolutely delicious. Everyone loved it! Grandma's Secrets cakes are divine. Regina is incredibly talented in not only creating cakes that are works of art but are delicious!!. She did the cake for my daughter's 4th birthday which was a safari theme, so she made a cake with the most incredible safari animals. When I asked my daughter to tell me her favorite part of the party, she said "the cake." Regina is an inspiring entrepreneur as well as a talented chef. We asked Regina to make a castle cake for my daughter's 3rd birthday party. Because of the complexity of decorating the cake, it needs to be done at your home. That was the best part -- lots of kids gathered around to watch Regina do her decorating thing. The cake was so beautiful and delicious. And Regina is lovely. I purchased blueberry crumble, three berry crumble, sour Cherry crumble and apple crumble. My top two favorite crumbles thus far is Sour Cherry and Three berry. The crust is handmade and a good on its own. The fruit is sweet but not overdone and the crumble is what really makes the pie delectable! The service was quick, easy and pleasant. The pies are made fresh daily and from the few times I went in, always readily available. They are packaged neatly with an ingredient label on the front. The ambiance of the store is cozy and historic. I say historic because if you look closely you will see aged treasured recipe books, tools that shaped modern baking techniques/technology and vintage bake shop signs. Each recipe book more than likely has been passed down through generations and tools that touched many hands to make these delicious pies. From the photos below it's a rustic shop.
