Seriously bad food. We had two breakfasts. My wife had the cheese omelette and I had the pancakes and bacon. The coffee came out first. It was weak. Very weeeeak. The omelette was made with American cheese and the eggs tasted like they we're powdered. The only good thing was the hash browns. But the coup de grace was administered courtesy of the bacon. 3 pieces were curled into a tight, hard, ball the size of a coaster. They had been cooked until all of the flavor was gone...nothing left but hard pieces of charred carbon. When I asked for better bacon, the waitress reached onto my plate with her bare hand and grabbed the pieces I had left. When she came back, the new bacon wasn't as badly overcooked but just as flavorless. I used to say it is hard to screw up breakfast, but these guys managed to do it. I can only think that ll of the good reviews come because they're one of 2 0r 3 places in town where you can eat or because their relatives and friends are at work on Yelp for them. the most charitable thing I can say is maybe their Mexican food is good. Maybe. But then, knowing how they are so casual about transmitting germs with their servers, I wouldn't count on it. read more

The food was so good! I got the huevos rancheros and they were perfectly cooked. Nice large portion too. It does have random hours and closed certain days so check hours before you drive here. Also, they have adorable chicken decor that's all gifted by customers. read more

Was driving past Why and it was lunch time. There's not much around here, so we came here on a whim. The wife and I eat enchiladas en mole and enchaladas verdes all the time. These were outstanding, some of the best we've ever had. Big portion and good prices ($11 each) too. read more

Ate here once when I lived in Ajo. Never had the chance to come back because their schedule and my schedule never matched. However, the food was excellent and it adds to the restaurants in the area (there definitely is not much to choose from). Pay attention to the hours though because in this part of the world, that's the difference between getting to eat or not getting to eat- and they are not open on Saturday. Random stop, staff is very nice. Do not order the chili relleno's. They are terrible. My husband had a combo plate and the sauce and everything was delicious. Living in the Valley of the Sun, I occasionally like to drive down AZ-85 to the Ajo area just to enjoy the natural desert scenery. Until now, though, I've never seen any eating establishment that much impressed me based just on outside appearances. So I usually just pack some snacks and plan on not getting out of the car during my AZ-85 joyrides. Until yesterday. This time I planned in advance and came to Yelp and read reviews for Ajo area restaurants, and the numerous positive reviews for "Granny's Kitchen" caught my eye. So, knowing that most buildings in the Ajo area are pretty nondescript and hard to distinguish from the highway, I set my GPS in advance to the address and set off. That's right - I actually drove all the way from the Valley - 150-plus miles! - planning in advance to check this place out! The GPS was a good idea as I would never have noticed or given the place a second thought based strictly on its unremarkable appearance from the outside. Readers whose only prior knowledge of the place is these Yelp reviews should also be advised that at least as of June 2018, the exterior signage reads not "Granny's Kitchen" but "Granny Mac's Kitchen." But anyway...getting to the point...this restaurant lived up to everything the positive reviews said. I ordered the three cheese enchiladas platter, which was a HUGE plate of enchiladas, shredded lettuce & tomato, refried beans and rice - and I mean HUGE. I gained 2 pounds since yesterday as a result of that lunch! But it was delicious and worth it - as good and possibly better than I've had in many other more well-known Mexican restaurants closer to me in the Valley. The complimentary basket of chips was also delicious - these are thick, crispy, good quality chips. The salsa was provided in plastic squeeze ketchup bottles - of which there were two - a good and very hot salsa, and the other which appeared to be...just plain old regular ketchup - so a little odd there. But the hot salsa was great as far as I'm concerned. Fans of mild salsa would be disappointed. This is a small, Mom Shop-type restaurant (I would say Mom and Pop Shop except I didn't see a Pop on this visit). The interior was clean, as was the men's restroom. Service was prompt and the food arrived within minutes as well, though when it came time for the check I did have to finally go up to the counter to request it. The restaurant is obviously a favorite of locals - and rightfully so. When I arrived at around 11 a.m. on a Monday, there were only 1 or 2 other customers present, but several came in during the time I was enjoying my meal and by the time I left it was bustling with several tables occupied. This is THE place to go if it's time for a meal and you happen to find yourself in Why. (That's the final important point. This restaurant is located in the town of WHY, Arizona - about 10 miles SOUTH of Ajo on AZ-85, a block or two south of the junction with AZ-86. It is NOT located in Ajo itself). read more

If you're hungry and are going to Rocky Point? Just wait till you cross the border. It doesn't cost anything to be nice to your customers. So if you serve mediocre Mexican food and crappy service you get 2 stars. Only reason you go 2 is because the salsa is good. The shredded beef tacos need more flavor and meat was kinda dry. I tried going to sit down and eat today, I called in and was told only one table was filled and no wait. I arrive approximately 10min later and it's packed... things change I understand... I sit at an open table the young lady waitress, not only ignored I was there but helped take an order from a walk in getting food to go... at least hand me a menu or something. I had about an hour to eat hence why I called. Worst case I'd eat a bit and get the rest to go. I left, called to speak to manager but no manager or owner I believe I was speaking to cook. I explained my concern to her and first thing she asked is my name and where I worked. AJO is about 10miles away which is where I came from ... automatically people assume you work for Border Patrol, and regardless it's inappropriate, I found it VERY odd to ask me my name and where I worked. I told her that did not matter and that I was a customer that was ignored and skipped. She said she would tell the owner... I'm pretty upset that I live in such a small town and business feel because not much is here that I can be treated however they want and be threatened by asking my name and my workplace. We're from Ajo, this is located in Why, Az, about 10 miles south of Ajo. We come here as much as we can! We have never had anything bad! Breakfast and dinner are amazing. I've tried the Red Chili plate-it's probably my favorite. Today, I tried the "Tampiqueña," which is carne asada with a cheese enchilada, rice, beans, a cheese quesadilla, a mountain of guacamole and pico de gallo, and lettuce for only $14.50!! I've had the french toast and chile rellenos, not my fave but still pretty good. Chorizo & eggs or "huevos a la mexicana" which is Mexican style eggs, are go to's if I make it in time for breakfast. My bf almost always gets a hamburger everywhere we go and he says they are very good! The salsa is delish too! read more

It's the last stop before Mexico but it is really good Mexican food! First thing you'll notice is the place is a little older but obviously clean and kept in good condition. Ordered a nice chimichanga...came out hot and with all fresh ingredients. Waitress checked on us numerous times. Only complaint was there was a weird sign on both bathrooms that stated "Bathrooms only for dine-in customers. Otherwise $1". If I get it to go I have to pay a dollar to use the restroom? Stopped here on my way back from Mexico and I have to say the mexican food here is as authentic as it is across the border. Had a breakfast chorizo burrito and thankfully the chorizo wasn't super greasy as it can be sometimes. It is cheap and plentiful. Next time I am going across the border I will stop here going and returning to the US. read more

Had breakfast here for the first time. The chilequilas were absolutely delicious! It doesn't get better than this. The refried beans were very good as well. GREAT FOOD AND SERVICE DESPITE THE BUSIEST HOUR OF THE DAY FROM NOON TO 1P. Chile Rellenos is the best ever! Lucia is outstanding and can multi-task among the best in her field. She handled the entire room by herself. Cleaned up tables, took orders, wait on tables and also worked the register in a timely manner and still had a smile on her face. Restrooms clean, good size (single) ladies room even has a leather chair. We intend to visit often. Well we were super excited for some good food after being in puerto Penasco for a few days. My hunny ordered the burger and I ordered the enchiladas. Well they brought one plate first which looked like my enchiladas and went to retrieve my husbands order. As she was grabbing his plate I started eating what I thought was my enchiladas. The waitress hurried back w the other plate ( which was not a HAMBURGER) and realized she gave us BOTH the wrong orders.... knowing I had already started eating mine she took both plates back. We witnessed her wiping down the side of the plate ( where I started eating) and then took the SAME PLATES ( remind you I had already started eating off one) to the right table. I wanted to vomit. SERIOUS HEALTH VIOLATION ..... she then came back to our table w the correct two plates.... the hamburger was average , and my cheese enchiladas were cold, the red sauce was doused w red food coloring, the rice was hot. Granny's was open and ready for us in the morning on our way to Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. We ordered our lunch and had it later that day after a great hike. Even hours later, the food was delicious and fresh. The pico and guacamole stayed nice and the bean burrito was still warm. We had the BEST chiles rellenos ever here today. My husband had the chiles; I had a fabulous taco salad. The restaurant was absolutely packed, which is apparently typical in winter because of the snowbirders camping nearby. It was worth the wait. The service was fine and the food was exceptional.
