Baked Chicken Dinner, Mac and Cheese, Candied Yams
    Jamal G.

I was in the mood for some good soul food and Granny's Kitchen didn't disappoint. I ordered the dinner, which comes with one meat and three sides plus two corn bread muffins. I chose the baked chicken, two sides of mac and cheese, yams, and some peach cobbler for desert. The bake chicken was seasoned to perfection and was so tender it fell off the bone - 4.5/5. The max and cheese was nice and cheesy, creamy, and had the classic flavor I was hoping for - 5/5. The yams were sweet and sticky - 4/5. The peach cobbler was really good. I loved the amount of crust it had in it - 4/5. My only issue was with the corn bread. One piece of the corn bread was over cooked, the second piece was perfectly cooked - 3/5. The customer service was excellent. The staff was friendly and helpful. The restaurant is located in a small stipe mall with minimal parking. I will be returning to try additional menu options.

Baked chicken, cabbage and Mac and cheese

I am so disappointed. This is the second time I've ordered from here through Uber Eats. The first time, I received someone else's order. Tonight, I ordered baked chicken, greens, macaroni and cheese, and yams. Instead, I received cabbage mixed with greens (which I do not eat), and the macaroni and cheese was dry and tasted awful. The baked chicken looked like it had been sitting all day. This has happened too many times, and I won't be ordering again.

Picture of the burnt food that I ordered

The Owner needs to get involved Immediately!!! *This is the 2nd time that I had received my food burnt. Both times I spoke to the Manager and he refunded my money but here's the reason why I decided to write because it's an ongoing issue. I ordered when the store was just opening for the day.

    Raw Chicken Leg

I ordered from grannies for dinner from Postmates. My food was delivered on time, but when I opened it, I couldn't believe it. The cornbread was burnt black black. The dressing was hard and tasted like hard edges so I decided to eat the chicken. I broke the chicken and the chicken was not done. It was blood on the inside of it three side orders were supposed to come with my meals. They only sent two so I called to speak with the manager. The girl who asked said the manager wasn't in and all she said was sorry you had to deal with that and that's it didn't offer anything for me to rectify the problem so now I'm stuck with $65 worth of food that nobody can eat so I will be calling tomorrow to speak with the owner the manager or whoever because this is unacceptable.

pig feet was tender and juicy!

Fall of the bone meats, soothing sauces and rich flavors all across the board. Eric continues family tradition at this 10 year old LA staple that is continuously busy. From pig feet to savory greens and turkey you'll be returning for more. Unassuming to some but you'll soon come to know that that's often where the best food takes refuge. Everything behind the counter is steaming still and soaking in the sauce and seasonings kept secret by years of family tradition. Support our good people and good friends here! You won't be disappointed. Shoutout to Eric and the whole team, stay eatin!

    The proof of purchase!

I've eaten at this place years ago and would travel to this side of town to buy food, I work in this area but don't live on this side of town, so yesterday I wanted soul food, so this is on my route home so I stopped....food still smelled amazing as I entered the building, I ordered the Veggie lunch plate, mac&cheese, greens, yams, black eye peas & catfish....get my food & I'm excited because I haven't had there food sense 2022, I've gone pass the building over the last year and they were never open so I just assumed they closed the business.....so moving on my $29.56 plate was horrible....let's start with the mac&cheese no flavor or cheese the greens & yams have so much sugar that if I where diabetic I would need to take my meds.....same for the black eye peas no seasoning, but the worst part was what the called catfish nuggets this was disappointing the where burnt dried out and there wasn't even enough batter on them.....I suggest that they taste what there selling.....here's a picture of what they said was catfish nuggets.....wasted my damn money! Oh and the need to clean where they want you to sit & eat!

We all enjoyed Granny's Kitchen Food.

I couldn't believe I'd never reviewed it before so I wanted to do so following another delicious brunch at Joyce today. From the moment we sat down, the service was impeccable. Our table never lacked for tea, water, coffee, etc. Foster took great care of us (and shout out to Nick who's also provided amazing service to us there). The Bloody Mary was the first thing to blow my mind. It was absolutely delicious and maybe my new favorite Bloody Mary in LA. It made me wish I'd Ubered. But I also had some wonderful hot, Earl Grey tea. I love how they present it to the table. We covered a lot of ground and no notes. We had the caviar with crème fraîche and truffle kettle chips, a seafood platter that , the fried green tomatoes - which I will order every time I'm there, and the Dungeness crab and rock shrimp Benedict. The dining room itself is beautiful--comfortable, stylish, and inviting. When you look around the room there, it feels like every table in there is celebrating something. In a city overflowing with brunch options, it's surprisingly rare to find a place where the food, service, atmosphere, and pacing all work together so seamlessly. It was one of those meals that reminds you why dining out can still feel special.

There is a small seating area, and the seats weren't particularly comfortable, but the space seems intended more for a quick stop rather than a long sit-down meal. I ordered the beignet, breakfast po'boy sandwich, and chicken and waffles. - The beignet tasted good, but the portion was quite small. - The egg in the breakfast po'boy was burnt, which affected the overall flavor. - The chicken and waffles tasted like frozen food that had been reheated rather than freshly made. On the positive side, the service was very kind and friendly. However, overall the food was disappointing.

The restaurant is located at the Beverly Center and does not validate parking. The good news is that parking is relatively affordable at $1 per hour. Since I don't eat meat or chicken, I checked the menu online beforehand and found several options that looked appealing. Unfortunately, once we were seated, we were given a completely different menu. When I asked about it, our server, Lindsey, explained that the menu I had seen online isn't available until after 3 p.m. That was disappointing since I had already planned my meal. We started with the biscuits. They had a strong smoky flavor that honestly made me think they were baked with pork fat or in an oven used for barbecue. Lindsey assured me they weren't made with any meat fats, but the smoky flavor was definitely noticeable. I ordered the salmon with microgreens and a side of mac and cheese. My partner ordered the steak and eggs with hash browns, and we both enjoyed the mint mocktails--they were refreshing and one of the highlights of the meal. The salmon was cooked well and I enjoyed it. The mac and cheese, however, was a huge letdown. It arrived in a cute little cast-iron skillet on a butcher block, so the presentation was great, but the taste didn't match the appearance. It reminded me of boxed mac and cheese made with powdered cheese, topped with Parmesan just to create a crust. It was runny, lacked richness, and there wasn't even a hint of that satisfying cheese pull. Unfortunately, there were service issues as well. My partner specifically ordered his eggs over hard, but they weren't prepared that way. His hash browns never arrived at the table, and on the drive home he realized we had been charged for them. He intended to mention it before leaving but simply forgot. The biggest positive is the restaurant itself. It's beautiful, stylish, and has a great ambiance. Beyond that, though, I found the food to be average for the price. Even by Los Angeles standards, $42 for chicken and waffles feels excessive. Overall, Yardbird looks better than it tastes. While there were a few bright spots, the inconsistent service, menu confusion, and underwhelming food don't justify the price. Unfortunately, I don't see myself returning.

But Willie Mae's is situated in a better area, it's got civilized sit down table service, cuter decor, and it has way better sides. During this recent DineLA restaurant week, I met a friend there for lunch. Now they have a fairly large sit down dining room that was quite busy and it seems like there was a steady stream of takeout. Our server, Desiree was fantastic. She told me this branch was started by the same folks of the original in New Orleans. Due to a an issue with the freeway closure and horrible traffic, we were very late and she kindly honored our reservation. The food was fantastic. Great crunchy and spice on the chicken (it is on the spicy side so be careful if you cannot handle the heat). The little corn breads were just the right amount. We tried the yams, which is a must, but also shared some of the other sides. The cabbage is cooked kind of like collard greens. The butter beans and rice is very tasty. We also tried the mashed potatoes and gravy. All sides are vegan, which I thought was done for the local L.A. crowd, but we were told the sides are vegan in the original recipes. Next time I'd like to try the gumbo and other dishes on the menu.
