They should just close after lunch because I've been here 3 times yes 3 after work around 5:30 & again at 7 and every time their food looks cold, burnt and disgusting. I was a tad bit disappointed. Ordered the smothered chicken meal through postmates with a lemonade. When my food arrived, it was still warm which was nice. The greens & mac n cheese were seasoned well. The chicken in my opinion was not smothered, there was no gravy. Although the chicken was seasoned well, it was the smallest pieces of chicken I've ever seen...lol likkkkeee really guys?? Overall, I give a three for taste & flavor. Called in to place a ordee for breakfast during breakfast hours and was told that they don't do breakfast during the week only on Saturday and Sundays. This place is very mediocre and inconsistent. I rather go to carolyns kitchen or roscoes where things are consistent and the food is always on point. This place is located a block from my house so i tried to support it. I had a taste for soul good so decided to go to Grannys to try somewhere different. The hours said that it didn't close until 8pm. I got there around 7:15pm and it was already closed. So disappointing especially when you drive all the way from WLA in traffic to get there. I guess this is one of those places I will have to stop at if they are open when I am in the area. read more

I am a uber and Lyft driver who had been on the road literally all weekend from my home in Victorville for all-star weekend. I was so hungry and I was basically tired of eating fast food and waiting in line at taco stands so I kept checking my Yelp app as I drove through the town.. came across this SOUTHERN GEM!! Boy can I tell you that this soul food really touch my soul.. of course I'm a side person (who doesn't love sides?) I can honestly say that the macaroni and cheese was amazing!! The yams were out of this world, the greens was the very best friends I've had in a very long time! Everything piping hot! my grandmother sold her house in Inglewood CA and moved back to Mississippi so I must say this really hit home. I did not get the name of the guy who was the cook.. he was bald-headed. I wanted to say thank you again for giving me the rest of the baked BBQ chicken!! First of all, I have to start by saying everything tasted delicious (minus the greens, I prefer mine a little meatier and tender), but the neckbones were amazing, the kool aid was so good and sweet and the chicken was fall off the bone. However, the meatloaf I ordered wasn't cooked through it was raw in the middle and even though what I tasted was good, I obviously couldn't eat it so it was a waste. A friend and I were craving soul food on 2/25/17. I had already looked on line before going excited to get there, parking was real tight. Got in there everything just about gone. I made a comment in regarding a certain meat being out, the owner was soooo rude, I had never been treated that way by an owner before. I tried to explain I did not mean it in a mean way, he continued being really mean and rude. Not to say the least the kitchen area looked really unsanitary. I was in the mood for some good soul food so I decided to Yelp "Soul Food" and came across Granny's Kitchen. I ordered the fried chicken with collard greens, mac and cheese, rice with gravy, and a side of meatloaf. Everything tasted so good and fresh. The only small issue that I had was that the food was not hot enough. That's why I gave 4 stars instead of 5. It was warm but I wish it was a little hotter. I've had really good soul food in the south and I must say that this was at par. Oh and last but not least, the service was great and the owner is a cool dude. I love Granny's delicious pig feet but the chitterlings were not done. I called in for Chitterlings and a pig feet dinner with two sides. When I arrived the young lady serving asked can I help I said I called in she said I don't think so I asked the owner and he stated before the customers I have a thousand calls I can't remember everybody. After that he told the lady exactly what I ordered. A chittering dinner is 20 dollars and a pigfeet dinner 15 because I gave 40 dollars change back was 5.00 dollars. That is to high. A pigfeet dinner in the past cost 9:00 dollars. Another occasion my friend and I went about 10 minutes before opening. She has asthma and he came to the door and said 10 minutes. She has asthma. Attitudes mean a lot to me. I am a regular. Personality means more to me than anything.I bring my friends to eat spreading the word. It was raining outside. Dulan's atmosphere is better. Delicious food and not have to deal with attitude. Dulan's on 202 Manchester is the spot. Great variety of desserts. Happy to be a customer! Enough to eat for two at the price of one. Very satisfied customer. Employees seem to be happy working there but not at Granny's. At Granny's they can serve you but only he collects the money in a very hot atmosphere in the summer time. A co-worker and I came to Granny's for lunch yesterday around 1:30 p.m. It was not crowded and after a short wait in line, "Sunshine" served us. This sista was very pleasant and accommodating. I told Sunshine that a number of black-owned, soul food restaurants have closed over the years and that it is DAM REFRESHING that "we" have another restaurant that we can patronize. And the ambience at Granny's felt like friends and family had gathered. We also met the cook (and the Mac 'n Cheese was off the chain!) and we had not had kool-aid in YEARS so we enjoyed that along with our meal. The price for our two meals, "made me smile." The inside of Granny's is very small, five tables with four chairs at each table. People, all that I can tell you is GO to Granny's Kitchen and try her food for yourself. Flavored well and the portions are plentiful. We both had left-overs. Oh, and if available, ask for a take-out menu should you decide to call in an order. I'm gonna keep it short and simple...I ordered the turkey wing meal with dressing, mac n cheese and candied yams. Yams were sooo delicious !! Turkey wing could have used more seasonings. Dressing was awesome! Mac n cheese was super bland...I had the tropical punch mixed with orange drink and it was waaay too sweet and thick.
