I don't remember the first but she moved out of state, and then I started seeing Dana about 4 years ago. Unfortuntely she is married to a military husband and they moved about 2 years ago. The last 2 years I have been seeing Amy and Anna. They are both fabulous! My teeth always feel so clean. Amy uses some new tooth cleaner stuff and it is different than normal cleanings-but I really like it. I have had to see Dr. Drais for a few cleanings and a crown last year. He was very professional and did a great job. His assistants are really kind and everyone goes out of their way to make the experience as amazing as possible. I'm writing this review because I saw another review by Abdessamad that I felt was pretty petty. What you said makes no sense. He sent you to a specialist so that he could make money? You may not have been happy that Dr. Mickle charged you a lot but how is that Dr. Drais's fault? Also, when I call my mechanic and say that I need my car fixed, they try to get me an appointment. Why would a dentist not try and get you an appointment as soon as possible if you need a tooth pulled (and it probably hurts)? That is literally their job. And what is a mechanician?!

I've been a patient here for over 10 years, starting back when Dr. Oh owned the practice. Even after it transitioned to Dr. Drais, I stayed because the prior office manager, Patty, and her team were fantastic. They were organized, followed up on billing and estimates promptly, and always called ahead if appointments changed. Unfortunately, since Patty left, the service has gone downhill. For my most recent procedure, I had to repeatedly follow up just to get an estimate -- which I didn't receive until days before the appointment. That was frustrating but not a deal breaker. The deal breaker was showing up for a crown appointment only to be told it had been canceled. The staff insisted I should have received a text, but no such message ever arrived. They told me they would add a "notation" to my account so that I would get a phone call in the future. In other words, phone calls for cancellations are no longer the norm -- only texts, unless you request otherwise. Call me old-fashioned, but when a dental procedure costs thousands of dollars and requires me to take time off work, I expect a phone call ahead of time if it's canceled. That's basic professionalism.

I have made a couple of runs at seeking care in Carmel and Monterey, but each time it was made clear that I was not "their kind of patient." The fancy dentists seem to be looking for patients who will have their teeth cleaned twice a year, and maybe get a filling or a crown once in a while. That's not me. Today I finally gathered my courage and went in to see Dr. Abbas at Dr. Wetzel's practice in Salinas. I was terrified. Needlessly, as it turns out. Dr. Abbas and the staff were super kind, calming and non judgemental. They were also very organized and competent. Within a half hour Dr. Abbas laid out a number of treatment plans for me, explained each in detail, and left me to make my own decision. I cannot recommend Dr. Wetzel's practice enough. If they were able to calm all my fears, I can imagine they would also be great with kids, and anyone like me with a general dread of dentistry. Thank you so much!

My daughter was hesitant at first to proceed with treatment but after a little more questions for the dentist and given her options she agreed to move forward and have some fillings done. Once the treatment for this visit was done my daughter came out happy and said mom I liked this dentist i wanna come back for the rest of my dental work here. I was one happy momma. I always wait to schedule my cleanings, etc for when I am in the Monterey area. Recently, I had a dental emergency- and luckily it happended while I was in the Monterey area. I called Dr. Ikemiya's office immediately. Unfortunately, the doctor was out sick. so his office referred me to another dentist. What was really exceptional, though, was that Dr. Ikemiya himself called me back- *several times* - from his *sick* bed to check on me and be sure I was getting the care I needed. Not only that, but he left me his *cell number* so that I could call him back. I was truly overwhelmed. One just does not find this level of caring, compassion and *access* to physicians these days. I have unfortunately had some experience w/other medical professionals who take advantage of emergency situations by charging exhorbitant fees. Not so with Dr. Ikemiya. His fees are very reasonable and *fair*. I have always found the staff to be very pleasant and efficient, the office & equipment are state of the art, and the hygenists do the most thorough job of any I've ever encountered. If you're looking for the BEST dentist in the area (or anywhere, for that matter) you simply can't do any better than Dr. Ikemiya. Wish I could give him TEN STARS!
