I JUST got home from going through drive-thru. This was my first time going to this restaurant. I order from an employee that sounded like she did not want to be there and was impatient with me as I decided what to order. I order the country fried steak combo with two sides and a roll. One of my sides are steak fries. She tells me that I have to wait 5 minutes for my fries...that's fine and I wait. I get my order and go home (I don't live in Flowood). THEY GAVE ME SOMEONE ELSES ORDER...AND IT HAD NOTHING BUT SIDES ( 2 orders) IN IT AT THAT. None that I wanted or waited for. It's like she grabbed whatever they handed her, didn't check it, and handed it to me. Giving one star cause I should of checked myself before pulling off. Great food. When I went last week, the ladies behind the counter were very obviously annoyed with one of the ladies working who seemed to be getting in everyone's way and messing up orders. They were being snappy with her and even made comments to some of the customers about her, rolling their eyes and things. But they were nice and respectful to the customers. We finally tried this place last weekend! The food was sooo yummy we came back the next day! First time through the drive thru and next day inside dining. The staff was very friendly and the dining room was clean. The decor and music was also great! All the veggies were well seasoned and the mac and cheese was to die for! The food here is great. Many home style dishes are really good. I personally like the chicken tetrazzini. They have an awesome selection of sides. The service is always nice and friendly. They get you checked out and on your way quickly. The restaurant itself has a nice ambiance and relaxing atmosphere. Personally, I don't know I'll go back in any hurry but if someone asks me to go I certainly won't say no. I have eaten here several times. The prices are moderate and the food is always hot and fresh. However I do think that all of the people serving food should have their hair covered by a scarf or food prep hat and they should all be wearing gloves, and gloves need to be change frequently when you leave the food service area and then return to it. It is just the right thing to do in the food service industry and to prevent passing cold and flu germs. If they can fix these issues they will increase their business. Because if I notice it others do as well. read more

This is not a soul food restaurant . I ordered chicken tetrazzini, that only had dry white meat, and cheese and very minimal seasoning. The sides I ordered were Mac and cheese and okra and the Mac and cheese taste like it was straight from the box. The server picked a small amount of tetrazzini so I asked for a little more and she said it was extra. The owner did come over oddly and placed a little more at no costs , and I then asked her where are her gloves. She said oops and put them on. Well I decided to try out this place for the first time today! Overall it was pretty good! I ordered the red beans and rice in the drive-thru since I had to be back at work. They were super fast (which is convenient since I have to be quick about getting lunch) and nice. The food itself looked good. The roll was nice and soft the entree itself could've used just a tad more flavor to it. The meat had great flavor. I had the side of green beans which could have used more flavor as well...but I added some pepper to it all so it made it better!! All in all I will be coming back to try other items on the menu! read more

We received a flyer in the mail and we were excited about trying a new place to eat. I have to say that I was very disappointed in the food the service and the fact that none of the staff chose to wear hair nets. We took a picture of my daughters Mac and cheese and as you can see, there was a hair in the center of the serving. I was going to get Turnip greens, but I watched a fly land on them. Well this may be a bad case of mistaken expectation or identity. This establishment wears the disguise of southern home cooking. But it's more like a school or worse prison lunch line. The portions are small and nothing I ate had much flavor and lacked all and any southern kind of love. I was bland and soggy. The counter folks were friendly, that was the only bit I enjoyed. This looks like a fairly new building but the ceiling tiles are already stained and overall it didn't seem very clean. Sorry folks I can not recommend this restaurant at all. read more

Grant, My wife and I love your place and we are regular customers, but I want you to work on your red beans and rice. I grew up in south Mississippi and was a frequent visitor to New Orleans, so I know good red beans and rice. The beans need some work. The last two visits, the beans have been bland. No seasoning. No zest. You're a pro in the kitchen, Grant, so go to work on this dish. And frankly, the sausage could be better. Seasoning, Grant, seasoning. Go order this dish where it is terrific. Felix's in New Orleans is my favorite. Local 463 does a good job even though overpriced. And maybe the best offering is Martin's Wine Cellar. Get this dish from these places and recreate it. Great lunch place, cafeteria style with one entree and two sides. I had the pot roast, mac and cheese and the corn suffle`. It was very good, and I enjoyed my time there. Friendly staff and it was relatively quiet. I went around 2:30 so of course it wasn't busy during this time. Great food for the money and I got full! Will be back again. Probably once a week. Just ok food. Awful customer service. Never ever go there at 8:00 p.m. - even if you can put away food in record time. We stopped in 30 minutes before closing because I wanted to try it, plus there were cars in the lot. We walked in, got a tray and silverware (it's a cafeteria style venue) and were immediately asked if we wanted to-go plates because they were about to close. I asked how late they were open and if we could just sit and eat fast. The server asked the manager and we were "allowed" to sit down. About 10 minutes into our meal, another staff member asked if we wanted a to-go box. We finished in record time and will not be back. To top it off, the food wasn't that great. Pros: We loved the chicken tenders, mashed potatoes were real and lumpy just like we like them, sweet potato casserole was creamy and right consistency, carrots sweet and done, fried okra was very crispy and the batter tasted homemade, and the chocolate chess pie was awesome...left us wanting more!!!! Cons: The country fried steak should have come with white gravy but the portion size was large. The yellow squash was okay and ordinary, had to add a lot of salt to give it any flavor. The place is cafeteria style and some of the items they served deserved a better ending to their life. Let's start with the banana pudding I was told was cooked in house. What she failed to mention that their version of cooked in house meant banana pudding out of the box with whipped cream. The turnip greens were waaayyy past done to the point of being shallow and pedantic. The mac and cheese also had the taste of coming from a box and the meatloaf? Can you say mystery meat?? Not the best soul food in town but worth the price and east of jackson, not a bad place for soul food. It has the potential to be sooo good but falls short every time. I want to like this place and I keep coming back but it's just not that good. The stir fry was awesome but they took it off them menu. You have to add salt to almost everything to get any flavor but it tastes fine after that. The tea has always been terrible. The idea is wonderful and it has amazing potential.
