Wow this place is amazing and my Mom's insurance covers it for her. She is almost 80 and goes here and swims 5-6 days a week. I was in town recently and they also get some guest passes each year. The spaces are huge. I've never seen so many workout equipment machines and all well kept and clean. They face out big windows facing the horse track or the pool. The pool room has a two story high ceiling and all new ventilation system. Also no chlorine as it is salt water and other minerals. 6-8 lanes depending on the time and then a big open area which they have classes. They also have a hot tub which I enjoyed. Spacious locker room also seemed very clean. Oh and friendly staff. Please help keep this place in business!! read more

Really disappointed in what the YMCA has become. We signed up for swim lessons, never received the follow up call to tell us what to expect and where to meet. We showed up for them 1/2 hour early to make sure we knew where we were going. They had no record of our information to get checked in even though they had us on the list for the lesson. My kiddo was placed in a level 2 which I wasn't sure was the right one. After watching the first class I requested he be moved up a level and they basically told me no. We canceled and requested a refund which I still have not received. Everything looked dirty and old. They really need to do done clean up. read more

I have been going to the Y for the last 6 months. I am attending the boot camp class and the spin class and both have been great. Staff is super friendly and I enjoy to go in the hot tub after a class. I am also using their red light service which has tremendously helped me with my joint pain. If I could rate them lower than 1 star I would. Front staff are incredibly rude and unfriendly. This YMCA is the only Y I've ever heard of that doesn't honor the nationwide Y gym membership, which means, even if you have a Y membership they won't let you in without paying a large fee (which likely means members of this gym cant use other ymca's, which is very uncommon among any chain brand gyms). They were not only rude when explaining this (which wasn't necessary), but the staff also asserted judgemental opinions and created a hostile atmosphere. The visitor forms on their website literally mention the nationwide membership piece, which seems deceptive if they dont honor it. Seems like a business that is living outside of their values. If it's supposed to be about caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility (their core values) and fostering community how can they not honor the same guidelines every other Y does and encourage healthy living for everyone thats a part of the Y. They're just another business who's only priority is making profit at the expense of going against their values. read more

This review is based upon the superficiality aspects of the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) of Grants Pass, OR. I was a Yoga and QiGong teacher (studies of the internal self; which all too few Westerners know about) from May 2018 to just recently; I was let go due to hearsay and for not taking down all items that had the YMCA pictured in my social media and other web platforms. More than that, I see my release as from the insecurity, gossip and poor egos whom have been involved for longer than I. Whereas I can see that the organization gets by well enough on meeting the status quo, those whom are in charge of handling situations that are deeper than surface level are quite inept. Let me explain my history in brief as to why I say this: My time with the GP YMCA began when I was an infant, and was watched from the daycare while my Mom swam laps back in the early 90's. I learned to swim in the pool with a Y Instructor, where kids still still learn today. So there is a significant piece of my heart there and I do deeply care for it; this review is not about bad mouthing, but stems from love of the space. As an adult, I returned back to Southern Oregon after some deeply significant reconnections with the Universe and God which led me to understanding the practices of yoga (a Sanskrit word meaning "Union" [of body, mind and Spirit]) and QiGong (a Mandarin word meaning "Energy Discipline"). I began studying these practice in 2012 and teaching in 2013. At the GP YMCA, I noted that the ThaiChi (a branch of QiGong) and Yoga teacher's we're only teaching the superficial aspects of these practices. The only yoga class I have ever walked out of was at the Y due to horrific guidance (I've never heard "maybe" more times in one hour in my life), and the ThaiChi teacher kicked me out after I offered him some humble advice as to how to get his students to understand the practice better. Overal, I see this as a culture issue more than just a GP YMCA issue, but nonetheless, I still think the Young Men's Christian Association is a poster child for the stagnant and dying old paradigm (pattern); perhaps they will soon understand this and rename it Timeless Human's Spiritual Association, or some other less sexist and religious title. Their website states; "When communities get better, the world gets better. Discover how we positively impact the nation--and how you can help us--one neighborhood at a time." This is my life's purpose, but I was seen as a threat to the insecurities of the superficial; and in a way, I truly am. read more

Wanted to work out for one day. The front office wanted to take a photo copy of My driver license and all sort of information . I got hit last year with credit hackers and identity theft . I told them they could write all the infos of my driver license but I did it allow them to make an actual copy of my driver license .they told me to go work out at planet fitness . Lol . Then the "manager" told me that he would not give away my personal information on my driver license because of HIPAA regulations?Hahahha? What??! What is he talking about ? Lol As a healthcare provider myself I know about not disclosing information about a PATIENT ?i am not a patient !! He probably was trying to find an excuse to get a copy of my driver license but got the Wrong guy by trying to use big words he had no clues what they meant !Then he said he wanted to be sure I did not go to jail in the past ??? Hahah what??? So by giving my driver license that would insure him that I did not go to jail? Meaning they require a criminal check on me and will get it within minutes Hahahahha where did the YMCA got This guy??? Haahahahah What an idiot ! I think they deserve the bad reviews ! HIPAA helps ensure that all medical records, medical billing, and patient accounts meet certain consistent standards with regard to documentation, handling and privacy. The YMCA has a couple basketball courts, a climbing gym with individuals to belay you at anytime, a large swimming pool with designated lap swim lanes, plenty of free weights and machines to use in the weight room, and a cardio room. There are also locker rooms strictly for 19+ individuals, and there are multiple classes to take. I only took a yoga class once due to timing of the class, but it was pretty good for being included in the monthly membership. I'd continue to use this gym if I was going to stick around in GP. My only issue is that the age distribution is bimodal, really young kids or young teenagers and relatively old individuals. Not many people to chat with for me. I think a month's membership is ~$50. read more

I've been a member of three YMCA's now, and this is the nicest. Its a great facility, but it is a YMCA... meaning you have a big mix of folks, from lots of little kids to seniors doing classes. I usually am in the weight room, and it has all the basic equipment, nothing too fancy. 1 deadlift platform, 2 benchpresses, the freeweights are seemingly in an odd weight classification, ending in .2 and .5, all the circuit room machine type stuff; but it all gets the job done. Some places might be bigger and better if you are coming from a major metropolitan area, but this YMCA is pretty on point for the population of the area it is in. read more

Three stars because I lost like 20lbs going there. It was expensive for a family membership to a facility that isn't open during convenient hours. I liked that I could leave my kids at the pool and go upstairs, but it seemed like a lot of other parents did the same and the kids all learned the worst of the worst from each other. Cancelled the membership and went to anytime fitness for the duration of my stay in Grants Pass. No pool for the kiddos, but it was fine. Final thought: it really needs some febreeze in the worst possible way. read more

Excellent place with a huge weight room, pool, training rooms for classes, and many other facilities. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. There is a wide range of classes to take and group activities to participate. All in all, a good place to have a membership at. read more

We are loving The Y. My six y.o. has enjoyed day camp. We all enjoy the salt water swimming pool. Husband likes the equipment in both the weight room and cardio room. The people are friendly. Membership is a little pricey, but with the indoor swimming pool, we feel like we'll get a lot of use out of it. read more

As far as kid programs it seems like they are all about kids. However for seniors they seem to not be as concerned. They do not update the schedule regularly and it is hard to go at regular times as they change the pool schedule and have different programs happening when it is suppose to be time for adult open swim. They only give about 2 hours in mid afternoon to go and do an individual exercise / swim time and then cut into that time with children swim classes or PE time for Kids. No concern for those who have a hard time getting there and then can't finish their workout. Should keep up on the schedule to let people know when changes are going to happen. read more

As far as camps for kids go, classes, and youth activities, this place rocks! However, I think a positive atmosphere is extremely important. Every time I go in the GP location, the front office staff always seem to be frustrated, and grumpy. I have asked a question about summer camps, and one of the ladies said she didn't know and walked away without trying to find anyone to help.
