Charcuterie board, Grapes - September 2019
    Krista M.

Grapes Wine Bar is one of my all-time favorite places in all of Banff. A super cute, cozy, charcuterie, wine bar located on the mezzanine level of the Fairmont Banff Springs hotel. As of summer of 2022, Grapes is only open Wednesday to Saturday from 5:00pm - 9:00pm so you'll want to plan accordingly and also make a reservation via OpenTable if you are set on getting a spot here which also happens to be one of the only rooms in the Banff Springs hotel that is completely original. Definitely take a peak inside whether you dine here or not!!! Onto my experience - the second time I was in Banff (September 2019), my friend and I dined at Grapes and had such a marvelous experience that we knew we had to make it a point to dine here again during our June 2022 visit. Mind you, the hours are minimal so we had to do some rearranging with our schedule, none the less it was worth it especially because we are both charcuterie lovers!!! We ordered the Marinated Olives (citrus and herbs), Baked Brie (Canadian cranberries, jam, chili, and baguette), and the Grand Tower which came with an array of cheese and charcuterie, condiments, and a bread basket. Of course I thoroughly enjoyed the triple cream brie and prosciutto but truly everything was deliciously delightful and our server, Dana L., was very kind despite some initial disappointment... I will say that Grapes is worthy of that coveted fifth star. However, during my first visit (pre-pandemic), we were able to sit at the bar and watch the charcuterie boards being made. Unfortunately, in June of 2022, there were no seats at the bar and the food/charcuterie boards were actually prepared elsewhere - very disappointing.

We were not staying in the hotel, but in the area and looking for a good place to have a glass of wine and some cheese. Grapes did not disappoint. First logistics. The Fairmont is basically a campus. Grapes is in the main hotel on the mezzanine level. Come in and ask where the elevators are. Reservations can be made via Open Table. It wasn't super busy when we were there, but it's relatively small, so we recommend reservations. They have a great cheese and charcuterie selection and you can put together your own plate. Also highly recommend the roaster garlic artichoke hummus. Full of flavor, but not overpowering the palate. Wine list is solid as one would expect. The service was excellent. The vibe is classy and romantic.

    That's the view!!!!

Grapes offers lovely wine list and full drink selection. Wine , cheese , and specialty meats are delicious. The view is spectacular! The bar tendar Dana is 5 star Royal Fairmont service.

Grapes was the culinary highlight of our recent trip to Banff and Jasper. This small restaurant buried in the Fairmont Chateau is a real gem for lovers of wine, cheese, and charcuterie. The seating is very limited so reservations are probably essential, though we did drop in for a late dessert without problem. The staff was super welcoming and friendly, including the chef working behind the bar. Being lovers of cheese and cured meats we ordered the charcuterie and cheese tower. The chef brought it to our table and identified the various components for us. In addition to iberico ham there were local cured meats and regionally sourced cheeses, as well as accompanying condiments, including the chef's grandmother's zucchini relish (which was spectacular). The sommelier recommended a fine bottle of BC wine to accompany the meal. Sadly the tower filled is so much that we could not enjoy their desserts. We did return the next night for coffee and a selection of handmade local truffles. After too much indifferent resort food, Grapes was a welcome surprise! Don't miss it if you are nearby.

We were here for our anniversary and it was the most special evening . Perfect view and Dana was absolutely amazing. Food also incredible. Would come here time and time again.

Located in the Banff fairmont. This little gem is not your typical restaurant fair. Grape offers more of a tapas style dining paired with a great drink menu. The Decore is urban rustic in the elegant setting of the fairmont. Started the meal off with the mandarin Zinger cocktail. It was citrus sweet with a hint of heat from the embedded slice of jalapeño pepper. Very good. We cashed in on the yelp promo of the chefs choice taste of cheese. We were offered a three year old Canadian cheddar topped with dried watermelon radish, honey and balsamic vinegar. The cheddar was firm but melted the instant it hit your tongue. The radish, honey and balsamic just elevated the flavour to the ninth degree. Heaven. Second coarse we had the salmon rillette. This dish was definitely the star of the meal. It was sooo good. Served with crisp thinly sliced baguette and a not so hot tangy Dijon mustard. Both me and my husband wished we had order a second one. Third up was the chicken and duck pate. Again served with the thinly sliced toasted lightly buttered baguette. The pate was paired with a jam that complimented the flavour of the meat. I liked this dish but my husband did not. Last off we had the charcuterie board. Individually every item on its own was delicious but both me and my husband found the dish as a whole was a combination of too many flavours. Take in mind my husband is Muslim so we asked for no Pork. Maybe the chef tried to make up for it by adding more pickles and condiments. The main elements, meat and cheese were great. In the end we were to full to indulge in dessert but they sounded delicious. Would return just for the Salmon rillette

What a nice place to unwind at the end of the day. Chef Tyler is so creative. It's fun sitting at the bar and view his work. His meat, board medley is excellent.

Stopped by last night and had a fun time even with the limited supplies while electricity was out. A candle, some great cheeses, served with salted and candied nuts and basil infused honey. It all came back to normal and Tyler made us a meat and pate board. My favorite spot when in Banff, quaint little wine bar with so much to offer. Dana the sommelier was very knowledgable and very courteous and recommended a good cab to sip. See you next time!

Excellent place for a quiet evening. Enjoy a great bottle wine, Have a board, and a great time with your date. The Chef's choice is fantastic, so much meat and cheese. You probably need more mustard and jelly, but for the price it can't be beat. The service is very good treats you with respect and is courteous.

What a wonderful little gem tucked into the Banff Springs Hotel! The dim lighting and beautiful mountain view created a very comfortable atmosphere. The charcuterie board was a masterpiece, in both the presentation and the flavors. Every item complemented the other in the best ways possible. The wine selection was vast and we were more than thrilled to give the flight of port a try!

Located inside of a hotel, the decor is old school and a bit run-down. The service was prompt but spotty at times. The servers seemed more interested in cleaning up for the next day. We started with the nachos, El toro salad and the calamari. The nachos were salty. The dipping sauce were very generic, like store bought, 2/5. El toro salad was pretty good but not a lot of beetroot, 4/5. The calamari was rubbery and too salty, 2/5. Main we got the veg fajitas. They come in a sizzling skillet. The vegetables used were clearly frozen, it had beans, zucchini, carrots, baby corn, and peas. It was spicy but also very salty. For 27 bucks quite underwhelming. Overall, not a place I wouod go back to.

They just can't make a pina colada because they don't have a blender. I highly recommend the ribeye. You get a lot of meat for what you pay and it was delicious. There's not a strict dress code enforced. You can dress up or be casual. I wouldn't recommend dressing too casual but I did see people arrive in very casual outfits such jeans, knit sweaters and a santa hat.

This was our last restaurant that we had the pleasure of visiting in Canmore, and we definitely ended up saving the best for last. I chose this restaurant as the spot to celebrate my boyfriend's 30th birthday because I wanted it to be special and it definitely delivered! First off, the service at this spot is impeccable. They truly hire professional, genuine, skilled, and crafty people here who really care about food and the experience. It was very telling and we wanted to highlight that observation. Secondly, the cocktails. During our trip, we were lucky to have Josh as our bartender and not only did he truly know the ins and outs of the liquor and the ingredients that he used, you can tell that he has really perfected the craft at creating a beautifully presented cocktail, and this was already noticed by the way he cuts an orange. The cocktails here were basically like an art piece and had some of the most creative presentations I've ever seen. My cantaloupe island cocktail even had an herb popsicle in it and the after noon cocktail had mint sorbet incorporated into the presentation too, which was none like I've had before. Food-wise, they start you with a complimentary palette cleanser, which was a mini donut topped with fennel and caviar, which was exquisite and enhanced the experience. We then chose the foie gras, root salad, and mackerel as our smaller dishes and the duck and cod as our main course dishes. I swear to you.. each dish that we tried, we looked at each other in awe because we were baffled that something could taste that wonderful and look so aesthetically pleasing at the same time. Our favorite was the cod main course, which happened to be the newest menu item at the time. We also got the baked alaska for dessert since we wanted to complete the entire course, and that was beautifully presented and flavorful as well. The main chef/owner, Danny Beaulieu, and his team absolutely killed everything on this menu, and we were even able to meet with the owner and to speak with him during our visit here. It was a truly lovely experience and we are big time rooting for the restaurant's success. We are really thankful that we were able to experience Ankor and appreciate the love, care, and effort put into this spot. We will definitely see you again and hope to be back soon! :)

The wait staff was pleasant knowledgeable and accommodating. We were in a large party so we had a semi private dining area. Their specialty cocktails were great and very appealing to the eye in regard to the presentation upon delivery to the table. Very well put together flavour notes hit. The noise level in the restaurant was perfect for socializing so no complaints there. We did have a large party which probably pushed the kitchen staff a bit because some of the plating of a few dishes came out and were not complete ( 2out3 dishes came missing some plating components) when we made a comment to the waiter he went to investigate. They realized the issue and made a course correction on our bills which was appreciated. I hade the pork chops and I'll say the plating presentation was good but the quality of the the chops not so much, now I've worked in the industry in the past so I usually give a wide birth when it comes to the doneness of my proteins. But these were over cooked or seemed to have been cooked from a frozen state because they were dry as an Alberta summer. Not to mention tough and for that reason is why I'm only giving a 3 out of 5. Pork chops should be cooked through but full of juice these definitely missed the mark. The other components of the dish were great cooked proper with a perfect balance of seasoning. I'd come stop in again if I was in town but I'd probably wouldn't get the chops again.
