This is no longer a wine bar. About 2 months ago (4/25) it was changed to a pizza place. Not a very good pizza place. We tried two, the Margarita and their mushroom pizza. The flavor was not bad but they really skimped on the amount of toppings. For what these cost, you deserve better. I also tried their Caesar Salad. Could have used more dressing but it was a good salad. Service kind of fit in with the food. While my back was turned to the room, I believe there was only one person for much of our visit trying to do it all. Interactions were businesslike, and there was a delay in paying. read more

This was the only wine bar I was able to find in Banff and at first didn't realize it's located in the Fairmont hotel. The Fairmont is massive so be sure to read the posted guides. The wine bar is located on the mezzanine level. I was able to easily make reservations on open table. The bar is small but it is sooo romantic and classy. The music set a nice vibe and our sommelier Dana was so friendly and welcoming. She gave us great recommendations and even walked me to the bathroom. She also gave us the best table in the place, looking out to the garden! Loved her! You can build your own charcuterie board by picking the amount of cheese and charcuterie you want. I'm vegetarian so my friend and I went with 2 cheeses and the rest of the assorted snacks are provided. It was sooo yummy. The jam and nuts were delicious. We just had the best time and cannot recommend this wine bar enough :-). read more

Do not sleep on this place! You can make your own charcuterie board and pair it with fantastic wines. We told our server what kind of cheeses we usually like and she recommended the local versions of those. They were a hit! Grapes Wine Bar is one of my all-time favorite places in all of Banff. A super cute, cozy, charcuterie, wine bar located on the mezzanine level of the Fairmont Banff Springs hotel. As of summer of 2022, Grapes is only open Wednesday to Saturday from 5:00pm - 9:00pm so you'll want to plan accordingly and also make a reservation via OpenTable if you are set on getting a spot here which also happens to be one of the only rooms in the Banff Springs hotel that is completely original. Definitely take a peak inside whether you dine here or not!!! Onto my experience - the second time I was in Banff (September 2019), my friend and I dined at Grapes and had such a marvelous experience that we knew we had to make it a point to dine here again during our June 2022 visit. Mind you, the hours are minimal so we had to do some rearranging with our schedule, none the less it was worth it especially because we are both charcuterie lovers!!! We ordered the Marinated Olives (citrus and herbs), Baked Brie (Canadian cranberries, jam, chili, and baguette), and the Grand Tower which came with an array of cheese and charcuterie, condiments, and a bread basket. Of course I thoroughly enjoyed the triple cream brie and prosciutto but truly everything was deliciously delightful and our server, Dana L., was very kind despite some initial disappointment... I will say that Grapes is worthy of that coveted fifth star. However, during my first visit (pre-pandemic), we were able to sit at the bar and watch the charcuterie boards being made. We were not staying in the hotel, but in the area and looking for a good place to have a glass of wine and some cheese. Grapes did not disappoint. First logistics. The Fairmont is basically a campus. Grapes is in the main hotel on the mezzanine level. Come in and ask where the elevators are. Reservations can be made via Open Table. It wasn't super busy when we were there, but it's relatively small, so we recommend reservations. They have a great cheese and charcuterie selection and you can put together your own plate. Also highly recommend the roaster garlic artichoke hummus. Full of flavor, but not overpowering the palate. Wine list is solid as one would expect. The service was excellent. Grapes was the culinary highlight of our recent trip to Banff and Jasper. This small restaurant buried in the Fairmont Chateau is a real gem for lovers of wine, cheese, and charcuterie. The seating is very limited so reservations are probably essential, though we did drop in for a late dessert without problem. The staff was super welcoming and friendly, including the chef working behind the bar. Being lovers of cheese and cured meats we ordered the charcuterie and cheese tower. The chef brought it to our table and identified the various components for us. In addition to iberico ham there were local cured meats and regionally sourced cheeses, as well as accompanying condiments, including the chef's grandmother's zucchini relish (which was spectacular). The sommelier recommended a fine bottle of BC wine to accompany the meal. Sadly the tower filled is so much that we could not enjoy their desserts. We did return the next night for coffee and a selection of handmade local truffles. After too much indifferent resort food, Grapes was a welcome surprise! Don't miss it if you are nearby. read more

Absolutely wonderful dinner experience at Grapes during our stay. Dana, our server, was so friendly and conversational. Additionally our hostess was fantastic and even walked me to the bathroom so I wouldn't get lost (the hotel is HUGE). The wine was delicious, we paired a white with their jamon and cheese plate. Every single bite was delicious, and it was paired with great accompaniments. I wouldn't hesitate to go again. My husband and I freakin love this place! We come back every year and eat there at least two times during our stays. We usually opt for the chef's choice of pairings and have not been disappointed. They do a great job mixing it up and providing the right accompaniments for each meat and cheese they select. The staff is also top notch and really add to the experience. Located in the Banff fairmont. This little gem is not your typical restaurant fair. Grape offers more of a tapas style dining paired with a great drink menu. The Decore is urban rustic in the elegant setting of the fairmont. Started the meal off with the mandarin Zinger cocktail. It was citrus sweet with a hint of heat from the embedded slice of jalapeño pepper. Very good. We cashed in on the yelp promo of the chefs choice taste of cheese. We were offered a three year old Canadian cheddar topped with dried watermelon radish, honey and balsamic vinegar. The cheddar was firm but melted the instant it hit your tongue. The radish, honey and balsamic just elevated the flavour to the ninth degree. Heaven. Second coarse we had the salmon rillette. This dish was definitely the star of the meal. It was sooo good. Served with crisp thinly sliced baguette and a not so hot tangy Dijon mustard. Both me and my husband wished we had order a second one. Third up was the chicken and duck pate. Again served with the thinly sliced toasted lightly buttered baguette. The pate was paired with a jam that complimented the flavour of the meat. I liked this dish but my husband did not. Last off we had the charcuterie board. Individually every item on its own was delicious but both me and my husband found the dish as a whole was a combination of too many flavours. Take in mind my husband is Muslim so we asked for no Pork. Maybe the chef tried to make up for it by adding more pickles and condiments. The main elements, meat and cheese were great. Grapes Wine Bar is a great restaurant located in the Fairmont Banff Springs hotel. The one caveat I would add is that it has to be for the right person. Personally, this ended up being one of my favorite restaurants during our trip, and I think it fits well in the small space available. We ordered a board, mixed bread basket, and a malbec for two people and it was just right. A lot of the other restaurants in Banff are pretty heavy, so adding in a trip to Grapes helps even things out. The board is chef's choice, so there's not much point describing how ours was, but we enjoyed everything on it except one of the fatty cured meats. The bread basket was also really nice and came with delicious butter. The servers seem to change out regularly, but our server was really helpful as well. The windows have a great view, so I'd recommend trying to get one of those tables if possible. Overall, I'd definitely recommend Grapes as long as you know what you're in for and you won't be afraid of cured meats and interesting cheese combinations. read more

Stopped by last night and had a fun time even with the limited supplies while electricity was out. A candle, some great cheeses, served with salted and candied nuts and basil infused honey. It all came back to normal and Tyler made us a meat and pate board. My favorite spot when in Banff, quaint little wine bar with so much to offer. My favorite spot in Banff!! Their charcuterie and cheese platter was one of the best I've ever had!! (Unique Canadian items included) We sat at the counter, marveled at beautiful pickles bottles on the wall(some will come on the platter. They are soooo delicious:D), chatted with the chef behind the counter, looked around and daydreamed of the history (it's in the Fairmont---Don't forget to check out the old pictures of the building on 1M right up from the main entrance of the building). Our group reserved the cellar (private) room which we were looking forward to. When we arrived, the waitress informed us that we had been moved to the general dining area because another party brought more people than they had reserved so they could only fit them in the cellar. So due to the other group not reserving the correct amount of people, we lost the private room that we had reserved. We were not made aware of this until we arrived which was also unacceptable - at least give us a call. Waitress apologized but that's it. I prepped a whole slew of bad puns in planning this review, teasing Grapes Wine Bar by saying stuff like, "I was so looking forward to getting graped," and, "I would totally get graped every week." I decided to avoid that, not because of sensitivity (as I just shared them), but because it would distract readers from the review's intention--ensuring Grapes Wine Bar's continued success. Traveling from Courtenay to Banff, looping around Edmonton to Jasper, I had eaten at some of the best restaurants in Western Canada, from Araxi in Whistler to Tojo's in Vancouver. Yet the one review I most looked forward to was this one. I passed by Grapes on my first day in Banff, but decided on Samurai's sushi instead, telling my girlfriend later that our return would be inevitable. The next evening, after getting blissfully tipsy at the nearby Wines of Canada store, we tumbled into the wine bar for an evening meal (well, I tumbled, she guided). It goes without saying that this place is small, like Seth Rogan's acting range small, like Wal-Mart's interest in its employees small. It has six tables and a bar. It also has no real kitchen to speak of--everything is crafted behind the bar. Are there microwaves, blenders, and griddles? No. What you will find are home-cured meats, cheeses, and preserves and pickles still in their jars. But wait, you'd ask, what does Grapes serve, other than obviously wine? The answer is cheese fondues and charcuteries. Now, if that doesn't sound totally awesome, then you are not worthy of Grapes Wine Bar. Stop reading now. I mean it; it's only going to get better, and I can't be held responsible for the consequences. Soon, you may end up drinking coffee with your pinky raised, changing your Instagram photo daily, and dressing like a hobo from the 1930's. Grapes is fantastic, the kind of place I kept thinking about weeks afterward, the kind I told people about in my hometown. Another restaurant owner asked what kind of restaurant I'd like to see in my hometown, and I described this very place. Even he agreed that it was awesome. Oh yeah, and it has wine apparently to. Look, here's the thing, the best way to describe Grapes is that it's a sushi bar, replacing sushi with charcuterie. Customers take a seat, enjoy a glass or two--or ten--of wine, then sit back and enjoy the pageantry of the chef building your plate in front of you. Like an itamae, he or she (ours was a she) sets down a canvas--a wooden board with a stone for texture--in which the artist places cheese, preserves, dressings and meats upon. The preparation is akin to watching a lava lamp and the final presentation that of art. She stretched a spoonful of scorpion pepper mustard across one side, then gently placed wedges of cheese at equal points, following that with honey dripped like a Pollock masterpiece. Fruits followed nuts, ground up between the mountains of cheese. Then came the meat, four different kinds. We could hardly see the board by this point, yet she continued. Dollops of jam was spooned over the wedges. Afterwards came the pickles, peppers and peaches, carrots and cauliflower, dried first before placement. Throughout it all, the chef offered casual conversation. At the end, she explained everything, revealing that each placement was made with purpose. The selections closest to one another augmented each other, with the entire plate meant to be enjoyed like a book, left to right. Softest cheeses matched with blackberry jam sided with house-made pancetta. Roasted red pepper tequila jelly matched with cheddar fringed by elk salami. Smoked blue cheese under cold pickled cherries next to double smoked beef sausage. At this point, I've spend nearly 630 words on foreplay, and you're wondering where the main act is. Like a proper romantic assignation, the food was amazing. They kept offering me bread as it ran out. Each mouthful was an entirely new experience, salty with sweet, spicy with bitter, and with each bite washed with a sample of wine. Past haute French cuisine and excellent sushi, Grapes was one of the most enjoyable culinary experiences I've ever had, and to think that it barely cost me $50. And that was for two, with my meticulous girlfriend even admitting it was astounding. I need a place like Grapes wine bar in my life. I don't care if I have to move. In Kelowna, I discovered a similar place in The Salted Brick. Now to find Grapes Wine Bar in Banff, this isn't fair. I was asked if a place like this could survive in my hometown. This is by far one of the quietest little restaurants in the entire bowl Valley. It is Tucktaway in the old correspondence room of the 1920s in the Banff Springs hotel. There is no more than 8 to 10 tables at any given time. The ambiance is second to none, the food is a wonderful charcuterie of local fair. If you want a lovely girls night out romantic dinner for two celebration of an anniversary or just great food and wine this is your place. read more

We have been in Banff almost two weeks and have tired just about every top rated restaurant we could find. (To be totally honest we have dinner at Eden tomorrow night so it's our last dinner and has the highest reviews we have found so excluding Eden) We made reservations a month ago because we HAD to try Grapes because of the reviews and it's in the Fairmont Banf Springs Hotel which we could not get a room at :( We arrived for our 6:45 reservation to find on,y a few tables full. Odd since Banff had been packed all weekend but this was a Tuesday night so I Guess that helps. We started with a chef's choice meat and cheese board and a bread basket, We asked for the chef to select a wine pairing to go with the chefs choice meat and cheese board, The service was attentive although the wine took almost 1/2 through our board to arrive. But once it did they were amazing about making sure my wife and I both had the wine we liked, kudos there! Bread basket was amazing, sourdough, German rye, baggete, Parmasean breadstick, and a butter bread. They were all good and we would order another before we were done. The board had 4 meats and 4 cheese pairings set off wi5 amazing spreads, pickled everything ( who knew pickled strawberries and cherries can be so good ) that board was so good we had the Canadian cheese board next with 8 cheeses (unfortunate a few repeated but they were still amazing! The strong blue and the 3yr old cheddar where my faves, wife loved the goat cheese creations. Two more glasses of wine and a sample on another Chedder ( I'm a cheddar fiend!) hooks us to desert. My wife protested until the cheety mousse and chocolate cake arrived.... heaven! And they went so well together too! An amazing night with tip $280, expensive yes. Filling? affirmative, worthwhile? absolutely. Dinners at fine restaurants run about $200 and up in Banff so it was in line. We could have easily eaten for half that and been happy, we just really enjoyed the experience and the at,sphere along with a million dollar old world view out the window of what once was the writing room in the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. I have no idea why this place is not booked up! Make reservations anyway you don't want to miss eating here. read more

One of the best cheese plates ever! And that's coming from someone who comes from a town full of delicious cheese and charcuterie boards. The place is very intimate but delicious. The waitress was kind and welcoming, the wine was dry and delicious, and the cheese was outstanding. We got the chef's medley board, which comes with cheeses and meats. We also got the fondue, which was swiss. The fondue was a bit sharp for our tastes, but was delicious when paired with the smoked duck or the jams. The chef's choice charcuterie blew my mind. We had the truffle salami and elk salami which are local and so decadent. Our server David was nice enough to go over everything we had.
