This place is just phenomenal! I loved the service 5/5 and the food was 10/5 - totally surprised me since the menu was simple but the taste was out of this world. We ordered scallops, the corn on the sauce was my favorite. Potato and chorizo taco - simply amazing - but the taco seems store bought. The BBQ - OMG - that was my fav dish - the BBQ sauce was different and the meat was soooo tender - just fell off the bone. The drinks were ok ok - we ordered 2 non alcoholic and 1 alcoholic. The alcoholic was better - maybe we need to come back to try other drinks to re rate them. Came here just before HH ended. Our waitress was quick to get our orders in so we could get the HH price. We both ordered tacos. You have to pay for any extra salsa, sour cream or other toppings. The flavor of the tacos and meats were lacking compared to more authentic taco places I've been to. I also got a margarita which had good flavor. It's hard to believe that this is part of a chain, because this is some of the best Mexican food that I've had in Canada. In particular, the table-side guacamole was the best I've had anywhere, with the perfect mix of onions and jalapenos in super fresh avocados. This experience started off weirdly. We have a vegetarian in our group, and so we look for places that have more options for them. Anejo came up as one such place, so after a morning adventure, we stopped here for lunch. At lunchtime. And it was deserted. We were the only ones there for what seemed like a long time. For whatever reason they sat us way inside the restaurant, and they were seating everyone else way at the front where we could not see them. So it felt like we were the only ones there the whole time, until we left and walked past several full tables. We all had some form of tacos, and we devoured them. We stopped here for some drinks and apps during a work conference. We were trying to work with a reservation one of us has made but we arrived a little earlier and tried to let the hostess know that we were the same group. She was on the phone with the other member of our party and we told her that we were the same group. She was incredibly rude and said something to the effect of "let me deal with this first before I lose my mind". It really put a sour taste in our mouths. Especially because we were trying to help and make it easier for her. Then we got a table and there were plenty of tables, so it was not clear why she was so worked up. We had a larger group and had a reservation. First, there would be a $20/person charge for any no-shows on the reservation. Everyone showed so that wasn't an issue. One person ordered pork belly tacos and it was entirely fat. The restaurant said "it's pork belly" so all fat should be expected. They ultimately did take it back and replace it. However, the replacement didn't come until our group was ready to leave. Most items our group ordered were tasty but all had significant spice and grease to it. Both the guacamole and salsa were very fresh. Please note this is not going to be a typical salsa and it's very chunky. We all ordered the quesabirria tacos on corn tortillas (gluten free). I ordered mine without cheese to be dairy free. The consume dipping juice was AMAZZZINNG. I literally could've drank it. It was so flavorful and delicious. "Authentic" Mexican food in name only, and in the repetitive harping of its (granted, friendly) servers. If you have *any* standards for Mexican food, do not waste your money here. The tequila menu is extensive but expensive, and my double marg tasted like juice. My companion ordered one of each taco and found the meat alright, but the tacos were utterly lacking of any sauce. The fish taco was literally fried fish, onion, and some cilantro. What? I had the vegetarian tacos, some with friend cauliflower and some with mushroom. While the mushroom was seasoned well, there was not a drop of authenticity in either taco and frankly the flavors were lacking. This restaurant seems to think Mexican food can be distilled into a corn taco shell, some onion, and spicy mayo (??). The ambiance of the restaurant is warm and welcoming, but also dark and very loud, which I found a little overwhelming. The decor wasn't sinfully inaccurate, but felt as though the owner had gone to a United States Dollar Store on Dia de los Metros and just bought anything that gave "Mexican vibes." Also, brightly painted deer skulls, because why not? Ultimately, a deeply disappointing experience that felt entirely catered by people who had never stepped foot in Mexico, let alone a Mexican restaurant, who seemed to think spicy and well-spiced mean the same. I can imagine how tourists who also haven't visited Central America may enjoy this place (and its aesthetic taco presentation) but as someone with taste for true Mexican food, I regret stepping through the door. read more
