If you like barbecue, you have to check out this hidden gem in Selma. I recently visited Grapevine Grill and it is definitely a true hole in the wall spot. Only a few people can fit inside at a time, but that is part of the charm. The prices are affordable and the staff were incredibly sweet and welcoming. I tried the ribs first and they were juicy, slightly sweet, and packed with flavor. The edges had a nice crisp to them while the inside stayed tender and moist. I was extra hungry, so I also ordered the tri tip sandwich with a side of mac and cheese. The sandwich was generously packed and the tri tip was delicious. The meat was tender, lean, and perfectly seasoned. It came with a barbecue sauce that had a nice spicy kick, which made it stand out from typical sauces. The mac and cheese did not look flashy, but it ended up being one of the best I have had from a local restaurant. It was not the typical super cheesy style. Instead, it was rich, creamy, and really satisfying. We also tried the cornbread, which was only $1 and a pretty big piece. This was the only item I was not as much of a fan of, as it was a bit dry and crumbly for my taste. That said, I know some Southern style cornbread is meant to be less sweet and more crumbly, so others might enjoy it. Absolutely the best tri-tip sandwich I have had in a long time and this from someone that lives in tri-tip country. The bark was spot on, great smoke, and still tender. If you're in Selma, this is a must try- great food and great owner. I was looking for a good place to eat in Selma and I found Grapewood Grill. Yelp said it closed at 6, but it was a few minutes after 6. I called just to check that they were for sure closed at 6. The owner, Jordan, answered and said they had just closed and I said ok was just checking in case. That could have been the end of the conversation, but Jordan said they still had some food left and it was still out if I wanted something. I wasn't far away so I headed over immediately. When I got there a few minutes later, he made me a tri tip sandwich with a lot of meat, and a big container of Mac and cheese and one with beans. We talked for a bit after he prepared the food. The place is run by him and his father, so this is family owned and operated. He was so nice and is enthusiastic about cooking. It was really a pleasure to talk to him a bit. On top of a fantastic owner, the food was a big portion and delicious! It was some of the best barbecue I've had and I've traveled all over. I highly recommend Grapewood Grill. COVID-19 phase: I drove all the way there to try this place after hearing so many great things! I was disappointed!
