Kevin is simply gifted. I was immediately impressed by his knack for finding the most subtle movement irregularities, and by the variety of techniques he will use to identify biomechanical issues. He will continue to troubleshoot the (usually complex and multi-faceted) root cause(s) behind your pain, peeling one layer after another, and target those issues with specific exercise and habit adjustments. He will then iterate, building on what he's learned, and continue to find new angles of attack, teaching you a ton of useful tricks along the way. I have not come across a PT specialist who was as thorough, and in the two years since my knee injury, I have worked with many. Despite putting months of hard work into my recovery, things had been getting gradually worse for me, and I couldn't figure out what was going on, even with professional help. I scheduled a consultation with Kevin to address some on-going form issues I've noticed in my lifting. Kevin reached out immediately by email, and I sent him some videos of my lifts, which he watched several times before our session. This was my first time seeing a PT, and I admittedly felt a bit foolish going in without a real "problem" to work on (e.g., an injury or acute pain). The session was informative and helpful. Kevin did a variety of assessments, including checking joint mobility and my ability to move through various positions while maintaining tension. This involved lying on the padded table as well as doing various exercises in the gym area to see the movements "in real life." I had been trying to fix issues by watching YouTube videos, and, unsurprisingly, I wasn't on the right track. Fortunately, Kevin pointed out areas where I can improve, such as keeping my toes pointed out on squats and tilting my pelvis forward to maintain a neutral spine position on the deadlift. The session was tailored to my concerns, and Kevin did a fantastic job answering my many questions while still keeping the information targeted and digestible. Plus, he followed up later in the day with a summary of the information. This was only one session, but I left feeling excited about all the pieces of feedback that I could implement to see improvement. Kevin is the truth, 5 stars does not do him justice! I had been struggling with elbow pain from tennis for months before visiting Kevin. Within one session, he was able to identify that the issues were actually in my shoulder. Over the course of a few sessions we were able to get to the point where I was able to get back to playing tennis pain free again. Kevin isn't interested in treating just the symptoms, but the underlying issues as well, and he's fantastic at helping you understand what he's thinking as he's treating you. After months of working from home during the pandemic, I started suffering from chronic stiffness and pain in my neck, as well as weakness in my right shoulder/arm. I went through days at a time without being able to turn my head in one direction (sometimes both) without severe pain. At its worst, I could barely pick up a pot of water with my right hand without help from my other arm, and I felt like I was straining my neck muscles just to hold my head up while sitting. I had been seeing my chiropractor regularly, which helped but seemed to only relieve my symptoms temporarily. After being diagnosed with what is likely sciatica, I had to search for a physical therapist for the first time. I casually checked into several in the area, just checking to see who accepted my insurance. Although none of the highly rated ones near me were in my network, the representative at Graspmore actually explained why they were not in an insurance network and how it actually allows them to provide more individualized and consistent care to their patients. They don't shuffle you off to different PT's or assistants each time. You will work with the exact same one for each session, and they will completely tailor the plan to your needs. When it comes to pain relief, I think the extra attention to detail is well worth it. Dr. Steve Kim has been effectively helping me via stretching, massage, cupping, and exercise for pain relief as well as planning ahead to prevent recurrence. I worked with Jordan for a few months and it was a great experience! I play competitive Ultimate Frisbee and have been increasing my road cycling as well. I had a lingering left hip flexor pull that lead to a knee injury due to overuse. Both injuries were lingering for a few months and even after going to another PT for a few months I couldn't shake them. I was able to perform normal activity but couldn't get past moderate jogging or biking more than 30 minutes without pain. I decided to make a change and I'm very glad to have found Graspmore and Jordan. From the first visit he was very attentive to my pain and my goals of returning to high intensity activity. Each visit was completely 1:1 working with him the whole time. He was willing to push me while taking precaution to not go too far. Within only a few visits we got into exercises that I hadn't been able to do for months. I continued to quickly improve and my pain was lessened. I am rehabbing from ACL reconstruction and wasn't making progress with my knee flexion. Kevin is just so amazing. He is incredibly knowledgeable, thorough, skilled and helpful. I worked with him early 2023 when I had a torn labrum in my hip, disk issues and other compensatory issues. Hey Folks, I'm a 59 year old, reasonably fit, athlete. Recently, through no operator error, I started experiencing psoas and lower back pain. A good friend of mine recommended Kevin as he was able to help my friend with a severe injury that was immediately corrected. I have been seeing Kevin at Graspmore Physical Therapy for over a year now. I started working with Kevin when I wasn't able to move like I used to. I was an athlete all during my youth and have kept active with outdoor activities and the gym, but as I get older things aren't working like they did all those years ago. As a trainer and coach myself, I tried to push through and manage it, but knew I needed someone else to look at me. I have had chronic low back issues and pelvic misalignment that has kept me from being able to do some movements such as lunges and deadlifts, and would be in pain snowboarding and hiking. I couldn't do walking lunges or run without my low back seizing up. It's a sad day when your body hurts doing things that were so easy a decade before. With a combination of active release therapy, followed by stabilization and strength exercises, Kevin's work with me now has given me the ability to accomplish these movements pain free. With his physical assessment and listening to what hurts and where, he is able to work on me and then teach me how to correct my movements and stabilize. We walk through real world situations (just not in the gym) to see how I can move differently without causing any mishaps (ie, getting out of bed, getting in and out of the truck). I am always sure to do my homework (and there is always homework - that's the only way to get better). Kevin is a great listener and is always extremely focused during our sessions. He has a friendly demeanor and is super easy to get along with. I regularly check in with Kevin a couple times a month to make sure I'm on the right track, or to work with anything new that pops up. I went to see Dr. Steve Kim for some nagging shoulder pain. I rock climb and was looking for a PT who could help me move past just being pain free, and help me find a way to have healthier shoulders long term. Steve was extremely knowledgeable, patient, and responsive to my needs. We worked weekly for a while, and then spaced out appointments as I worked to develop some of the strength and habits I needed longterm. He was also always willing to answer my other random questions and work other goals into my workout routine. Kevin is a PT like no other - I've gone through a number of physical therapists in the Bay Area trying to find a practitioner who could thread the needle of "fixing me"! I am a former college soccer player, and have been experiencing hip / ongoing lower back issues, and general dissatisfaction with how my body was looking and feeling after intense exercise. I was referred to Graspmore by my orthopedist after nearly 2 years of significant patella femoral pain in both knees due to running overuse and trauma. I had tried 2 other physical therapists prior to Kevin and had been deeply unsatisfied with the results -- the sessions were typically only 30 - 45 min and primarily focused on soft tissue work, with few useful exercises that were impactful. I previously was very active (hiker, skier, runner, etc.) and could not walk down stairs without pain. From our first discussion, it was clear that Kevin is a very different kind of physical therapist! He listens deeply to the issues, reviews relevant medical notes, and builds out a comprehensive plan. I leave each session learning something new and that helps me make progress; I know exactly why we're doing each exercise and what it will impact, e.g., strengthening for improved speed deceleration, practicing descents and ascents, etc., balancing the soft tissue work and exercises. I probably also not encourage this to others but I have also been late a few times and Kevin has always been understanding, patient, and generous with giving me the full session still (yes, I am willing to drive from Berkeley to SF during morning and afternoon rush hour to get to PT - that's how helpful it's been). Most importantly, I have seen meaningful, lasting progress with my knee pain. While my journey isn't finished, I'm not only able to walk down stairs now generally pain-free, I have been able to pick up hiking again! I have tools to adjust for pain while also having significantly strengthened around my knees to increase my mobility. Moreover, Kevin has very thoughtfully adjusted for life changes, i.e., I am now 6 mos pregnant which definitely was not in the training plan, while still keeping me on track to my broader goals. I started seeing Kevin for Physical Therapy for lower back pain a few years ago, and when I was ready to get back into training I saw a trainer at my gym who wasn't thoughtful about my previous condition when putting together my program. This is what lead me back to Kevin, he developed a training program that stabilizes and strengthens my problem areas allowing me to become stronger and be pain free. The benefit of having a Physical Therapist that is also a trainer is when I have a flare up, he can focus on treatment and training to get me in a more stable place and back to my program. Kevin takes a thoughtful approach to each session, and identifies what we need to focus on each week, he also pushes me to do more, even when I think I'm at my limit. In mid-June of 2019 I suffered my second herniated disc on L4-5. I knew through my experience of my first herniation 8 years prior that physical therapy is quintessential to truly getting better and that I did not want to go the surgery route again. Now I also knew based on past injuries, that I was not going to utilize the PT services of my healthcare provider Kaiser. Being that Kaiser is a huge provider, their goal is to get as many patients in and out so their PTs give you a sheet with some general exercises and send you on your way. I wanted something different, I wanted my own physio coach that was going to analyze my movements, my hindrances, and create a custom plan tailored to my goal of wanting to return to baseball. So I started researching, I had already been following a handful of PT accounts on Instagram and a few DMs later, I connected with Kevin. Upon our first meeting I knew immediately this would be drastically different than Kaiser and I was right--Kevin immediately put me through some physical tests, asking me questions about my health history and my goals. Based on what I wanted (to be able to swing a bat fully, play outfield, and pitch) he developed a plan of attack and for the weeks following we went to work.
