One of the best juice places I've been too. I've been coming here everyday since I moved off the graham L stop. Unfortunately, they raised their prices because of the "competition". This is bullshit since there are no other juice places off this stop. They raised their smoothie prices $3 and all of their other products prices as well. I find it extremely unprofessional that the owner decided to take advantage of his costumes this way, especially loyal ones who are there everyday like myself. I know a lot of people who will not buy from them anymore, including myself. It's very unfortunate for him that he had to loose loyal consumers because of his own greed. I do not support grass roots any longer. read more

I was excited when I saw a juice bar was moving in so close to where I live, and I finally got a chance to stop in. Unfortunately, that's where the good news ends. Despite the three employees behind the counter, I waited over 10 minutes for my drink, at which time the two people waiting ahead of me also received theirs. (I can only imagine their annoyance.) Two workers were making drinks while the third appeared to be solely setting out samples--maybe not the best use of time when customers are waiting for drinks they've already paid for. The ingredients and appliances appeared to be arranged in such a way as to create the most inefficient process possible; the woman making my drink had to walk from one end to the other several times to retrieve each item, bumping and dodging co-workers all the while. Instead of focusing on making one drink at a time, she would perform one task for the first drink, then one task for a second, then go back to the first, etc. (Multitasking is fine if you can put together a second drink's ingredients while the first is blending, but that wasn't happening here.) The incredibly slow service would be forgivable if the drink was great, or even good, but my Eat a Peach (peaches, banana, mango, coconut milk, cinnamon, and aloe, I believe) was watery and utterly devoid of flavor--pretty inexcusable in the height of peach season. Was looking for natural juice and decided to try this place. Walked in and stood at the counter for two mins , I was like wow ! No line behind me and four people working ... why stand here so long . Any way I ordered a small cup of beet juice with carrot and ginger and thought I heard incorrect when she said 8.50$ ... I was like what ? For a small cup that's ridiculous and very overpriced . I stumbled into this amazing place while walking around the neighborhood, and I'm sure glad at dId. Everything from their staff, to their food, to their coffee and juices are 5 stars. Their tomato pesto toast is to die for an I don't think I could live without their chuckberry smoothie. Not only that but they've got a ton of great products on the side with a wide array of vitamins and supplements. Definitely come try this place out for yourself. read more

OK, so I come here almost every day. I love juices and IMO Grass Roots is superior to both Juice Generation and Juice Press. First of all, the staff here are truly wonderful people. Super nice and patient and friendly. But ok, you don't just go to a juice place for company, so how about the juices? AWESOME. Like I said, I stop in almost every day for one. Just good, honest juice at a reasonable price. So yeah the juice is great. But my real obsession here are the matcha lattes. Serious addiction. The staff uses real matcha (huge difference from the crap you get at starbucks) and uses a traditional bamboo whisk and matcha bowl to prepare. Then you get a choice of milk (hello! almond, soy, whole, whatever - i think they even have hemp!). The almond milk they use is barista blend so it's froths really nicely. SO DELICIOUS. They have a bunch of grab and go food which I think is very convenient, makes being a healthy human just that much easier. I've never been disappointed! Oh, and the last thing I love about this place - in the front of the shop they have a little pantry area with lots of cool health focused artisanal products like date sugar, kelp noodles and local honey. Also have a nice selection of natural beauty products like deodorant and soaps. Really wonderful stuff! I sadly have to second some of the other reviewers here. The food and drinks are terrific but the service - especially from the owner/manager - is terrible and leaves a bad taste in your mouth that offsets the deliciousness of their f&b. I was a regular customer - we are talking 3+ times a week for over a year at 10$+ a visit. The point of sale staff were super nice and friendly at the start but over time they were all fired or left and the new folks did not have nearly the same level of hospitality. And in every interaction I ever had with the owner she was rude and unfriendly. This place nails the food but in nyc hospitality is a big part of the formula - especially at prices like these - I'd rather give my money (and a lot of it!) to better folks. read more

On a recent trip to NYC, I found myself sleeping on a couch somewhere in Williamsburg. Due to it's proximity to where I was staying, I had a chance to stop in at Grass Roots a couple times. From what I can tell, everything they serve is pretty damn good, though there are a couple things which particularly appealed to my sensibilities: Their coffee. It's good. Their cold pressed juices. Also good, but then again, this IS what they do, so if there is one thing they are going to pull off properly, I would expect it to be this. Were this not the case, I'd still be writing a review, but my motivation would most likely be very different. I also grabbed a sandwich one day, and took it down to Prospect Park. Stopped by here on my way to a meeting and had the spirulina drink along with a slice of key lime pie- both were so great. After my meeting I came back to grab a slice of pie to bring home to my husband he tried it- and the look on his face was - exactly what I expected! He said wow - this is healthy no way. My sister and I needed a detox after a long Labor Day weekend of overindulging so we stopped by the juicery before I headed to the airport. Yay for a business that was open on Labor Day! You'd be surprised how many stores were closed in the Williamsburg area. We ordered 2 chuck berry smoothies, a eat a peach smoothie and a ginger + juice drink for the boyfriend. My boyfriend thought his juice was too gingery so I switched mine with his since I love ginger. The prices were reasonable and everything was made fresh. They had a fridge to the side filled with fresh juices that you could pick up and go. Great for on-the-go people! I do wish their menu was a bit more extensive since they only have a few options from each category. You could probably customize your own preference but it seems they are still working out the kinks in the business. When I was there, the manager/owner(?) was giving instructions to the staff on how some drinks weren't filled enough. A great addition to the neighborhood! read more

Decent place to try. I took my daughter there and workers there were very sweet. Unfortunately the chairs there were too tall for a 4 year old child so we needed to sit outside. Being close to the subway entrance for the L line, it's a god place to grab a juice on the way to work. As I like to sit and get comfortable in a restaurant, it turned out not a place for me and my daughter. Juice was great because my daughter even loved it. I admit when I saw there was a juicery coming to the neighborhood I rolled my eyes. But I also knew that I'd end up going there anyway. What can I say? Fancy beverages are my weakness. First off, I don't get the reviews complaining about the long wait time. Maybe they've stepped up their game since then, but it only took a few minutes to get my smoothie. If these people are going at crunch time they should expect to wait. How long do people sometimes wait for crappy ol' Starbucks? Yeah, thought so. Everyone working there was super sweet and friendly. The place looks good, smells good, and appears spotless. My smoothie was delicious-- not too sweet, creamy, and the right consistency. (Don't you hate getting a "smoothie" that's basically liquid?) The prices are about what you'd expect- $6 for a smoothie, and I think $5 for a juice. You do get a stamp card which, if you live in the neighborhood, could definitely come in handy. Lastly, I feel it's important to say that I am not a juice or health freak, but all the drinks looked like a good combo of ingredients to stay super nutritious but still be tasty. Natural sweeteners (i.e. agave), non-dairy milks, etc. Definitely way more health-conscious than at a place like Jamba Juice, but still easy for the mainstream customer to enjoy. Admittedly I've only tried one thing off the menu, but at this kind of specialty spot I think the quality is going to be pretty consistent. I will definitely be going back. I stopped by today for a salad and a smoothie. The food is good, I have supported this place since they opened but the service today was terrible. The cashier had a big smile and took my order. They prepared my salad and then there was a change of shift, I think. I waited and looked at all the pretty selection they have. After 10 minutes I asked for the smoothie. A rude lady, compliment to call her lady, was very pissed I asked for it. She started to say wtf here what the wtf there and moving stuff in the kitchen energetically. It was a very negative scene to watch. Even if it was not her fault you still have a costumer in front of you that is understanding and happy to wait. She is not the right person to keep in an open kitchen. I sled for my money Back and left. My coworker pointed me in the direction of this place because 1. I'm following a Paleo regiment 2. I like raw juices 3. His sister owns the joint. On this particular visit, after breakfast, my bf and I were craving something green and wandered over to grass roots. There were maybe 3 people waiting for drinks at the time but after I placed my order there were at least 10 people waiting after me. I ordered the booster with Echinacea and B12 for myself and the cricket for my boyfriend. We waited for 20 minutes to get our juices. I understand quality takes time but they were definitely understaffed and servings drinks out of order. A few who came in after me got their drinks faster than I did. It was also a little confusing when they called out drink names. Two people went for the same cup... That kind of confusion. Maybe they can start putting customers names on the cup? Luckily, I was in no hurry to get my juice. I took in the atmosphere and really like what I see. The business is still new so I'm sure they are working out a lot of the kinks. After giving Grass roots another shot I have to say that I do like their foods and snacks. They really have a leg up on local artisanal products, as well as personal addictins like coconut sugar. Also they have a great little nook of vegan baked goods, which does indeed make me happy. I tried their coconut yogurt with granola, which was prettttttty dope and I'll definitely go back for. So overall, I think the food offered is pretty great. My only gripe still is that their smoothies use too much ice, and therefor aren't very flavorful. read more

I work at the salon across the street and it's so dope to have a place like this so close as an alternative to delis etc. the staff is down to earth and wicked friendly (unlike some of the snobbier places around Williamsburg smh). being a brooklynite for 6 years it's welcoming to have somewhere open up that's got a legit Brooklyn feel and not a Murray hill feel like a lot of the new spots. I purchased one of their pre-bottled smoothies two days ago (Cin-Ful). Sell-by-date is tomorrow. Tried to drink it today... When I unscrewed the bottle top it EXPLODED. The cap went flying and rotten, yeast-smelling, curdled, brown smoothie went flying all over my kitchen, ceiling, walls, floor- it dripped into cabinets, ended up in my hair, all over recently purchased groceries and somehow even on my shoes one room away... The food/drinks are pretty good (albeit extremely expensive), but they take a VERY long time to make anything. It seems like it's designed to be the type of place you pop into to pick up something, but then it takes them longer to give you the food/drink you purchased than a restaurant does when you're sitting at a table with a server! I've rarely had to wait less than 12-15 minutes for anything there (and most times 20 minutes +). It takes an unacceptably long amount of time to patronize this place and makes it not really worth it... read more
