Finally a wine shop close enough that I can walk to. Grassroots and Vine is more than a wine shop though. They offer a selection of cocktails, bourbon, craft beer on tap and wine by the glass and bottle. No flights. They also have a corking fee, which I neglected to ask how much it was. They also have happy hour Tuesday through Friday, ask your server for the drink specials. The food menu has something for everyone. Salads, sandwiches, charcuterie and cheese boards. You can order at the counter or with the servers on floor. The ambiance is nice with plenty of space and a great outdoor patio too. I ordered a glass of wine while my husband ordered an old fashion. I tried a German riesling and it was delicious. My husband's drink was perfectly balanced and well made. We then ordered a cheese board which had two types of artisan cheese along with some fresh fruit, candied walnuts, dried cranberries, drizzled honey and a few slices of sourdough baguette. It was good but a third type of cheese added to this would be nice. I'd say in a few weeks they should be ready for normal business. We came in during grand opening and the experience started at 5 stars but went down to 4. It took 40 minutes for them to get a cheese board out to us. Taste was 5 stars. Ingredients are locally sourced whenever possible. I highlty recommend the beet salad with chicken. There were no wilted greens. Beets were sweet and tender. A light dressing helped maintain a fresh feel. Walnuts had a slight dusting of sugar. This gave an earthy balance. Seasoning on the chicken added a smokey flavor. The cheese boaed had two cheeses, some fruit and crackers. We were given a choice of two cheeses. The board was nicely presented. Fruit in the board was fresh. The chocolate cake (baked elsewhere,) that was too sweet for me. So why the 3 stars? The longer we were there the longer I worried about how safe dining here was. There was a large table near ours. They began seating two people at the table. When one of them said that they needed more menus because there would be six of them, the server said that they had to move since they would not be socially distanced. All seemed good. They then never sanitized where the customers sat/touched. Later a party of three couples came in. They brought them over to the same table. They asked them if they were comfortable not social distancing from those around them. They were fine with it. They did not ask our table or the other table closer to them if we were okay not socially distancing. (We were not okay with it.) They sat there for less than 10 min. They drank water, touched the table and menus, then when they found out they could get a table elsewhere left. Again the table was not sanitized. Someone who was either the owner or manager (she was not wearing black like all the servers,) was only wearing her mask when around customers. Other times it was hanging from one ear while indoors. Service and speed are another area that lost them a star. Our server checked on us a couple times early on, then seemed to forget about us. She was nice enough, but always had a somewhat complaining apology when she came to us. We were half way done with the salad when she came to check on us, and saw it was not as ordered. (We did not have time to wait any longer to be corrected.) After placing our order (but before our food came,) my husband decided he wanted the cheese plate. We were fine with the plate coming out at a different time than the entree. We did not expect it to take 40 min. We heard a table across the restaurant loudly complaining "it takes 30 mim. for hummus." I wasn't sure if I should be saddened or releaved that it wasn't just us. If we had ordered our food for carryout, this would probably have been a 5 star review. I took away a star for the inconsistent social distancing policies and lack of cleaning. I got the BLT, and added chicken - it was so delicious. The restaurant had apparently raised prices and didn't update the menu which feels very dishonest. The bill came back with several inaccuracies and wasn't corrected when attention was brought. Be careful and check your bills! read more

We stopped by here before a concert and it was the cutest place. I'm so surprised I've never been here before. They had a great menu and a lot of the stuff I was able to eat on keto. Had brunch there yesterday. Food was very good, staff was very friendly and efficient. Only downside was that it was EXTREMELY noisy. Relatively small room with a full house and several larger parties. To top it off, they had a singer/keyboardist adding to the noise level. Maybe acoustic-dampening wall treatments would help. If we do go back again, it will have to be a nice day so we can sit outside. read more

Wow, the food and atmosphere is great. All of the food is natural, high quality, fresh, and made to order. They have can make things gluten free. The cocktail list is outstanding!! They also have a small retail store that you can purchase wine, beer, pastries, fish, cheeses, etc. Seems to be mostly local farms and businesses! All the food was flavorful, but there were issues with pacing of the food and our flatbreads ended up being a little stale because they sat in the window for too long. I have been wanting to try this place forever! Everytime we pass by the adorable patio outside, I want to go but it's always so busy! I finally talked my family into going one evening early, to beat the dinner crowd, and go through the week. They had a "patio Open" sign standing outside and only one table was full. Upon walking in I believe we were greeted by the owner who asked if we had a reservation. We did not. She said well we really don't have anything open, we are holding tables for large parties. And that was that. No thanks for coming in, no if you'd like to wait, nothing. Clearly didn't need or want our business. And was cold at that. She clearly was not busy as there was literally only ONE table in the whole place occupied, so no need to be short. I'm still confused by the patio open sign if they were going to be full with reservations for the entire night. Such a bummer as I really wanted to try. But unfortunately I believe this is why fort Thomas sometimes gets a bad wrap for people being unpleasant. I know people in this industry that would do anything to have a customer at this time during covid. I can completely understand being booked for reservations, it was the lack of kindness, and the lack of customers that I was confused by. read more

We couldn't pass up the opportunity to be a part of the grand opening night of Ft. Thomas' newest South-end eating establishment. Owned and operated by a local entrepreneur and his also business-savvy wife we were surprised and amazed at what these two had done with this building that had been boarded up for the last 25 years or so. G&V was a real treat and the patio was a great addition to this location. Even though the skies were threatening rain we were seated outside at our request and the musician was setting up for the evening. Still clearly working out some kinks with the servers it took a bit before we were served but good conversation and good company made that a non-issue. They have four drafts on tap and a large selection of canned and bottled beers. The wine selection was also fairly extensive with by-the-glass or by-the -bottle options. Bottles of wine are sold at their retail price and add a $10 corking fee. I like this method of pricing for wines. They also feature a selection of good Kentucky bourbons for your pleasure. I opted to reserve that tasting for my next visit. Their menu features 'Small bites and in-house prepared foods'. Be ready for appetizers and cheese boards, salads, paninis, flatbreads, and desserts. There are even a few choices for the little people in your life. We shared the 'Pimento cheese plate' and 'The Avenue' flatbread at our table, both were well plated and presented, and very tasty. The next time I would add a salad if I were calling it dinner. The rain finally did come and we were chased inside for the reminder of the evening but it did not put a damper on our first experience here. The owners were making their rounds, helpful as they needed to be, in keeping things running smoothly, and beaming at their accomplishment in the midst of a packed house. With so many more good things that I could say about G&V I'll leave them unsaid and you will just have to go there yourself to find out. Personally, I look forward to our return. The flatbread I had was very good and my wife commented that the pimento cheese on her plate was the best she has ever had. Ate here after church on a Sunday morning and couldn't figure out why it wasn't packed. We've been regulars at G & V, especially when we can dine on the patio with our favorite drink and sometimes listen to live music. These days because of COVID19, we have new options. Last night BarbThomas and Andrea brought to our car the most scrumptious, healthy and fresh dinner you can imagine. Joe, the chef, and Barb kindly followed our dietary guidelines as well. They call these new options HEAT & EAT FAMILY MEALS. The chicken entree was tender and juicy, topped with fresh rosemary and came with the Grassroots and Vine salad which is always one of our fresh favorites. The side of red potatoes was delicious and perfectly seasoned, the brussel sprouts were exactly what we ordered-not blackened but delectably roasted with olive oil and garlic flavors. The portions are amazingly large, so we have a ton of leftovers which is excellent for us. Hope you check out the menu which they cheerfully bring to your car.
