Pig Pen on a roll (usually comes in a wrap)

After an awful experience at Vintage Subs in Asbury Park, we went to Grateful Deli. Every time I have eaten there it never disappoints with the quality, service and price !

    #1 and PigPen on rye

This place was *chef's kiss* we ordered a #1, half, and a Pig Pen on rye. The #1 was large for a half and had decent amount of meat. The pig pen was sooo good. The bread was soft and it had lots of meat and just the right amount of dressing and coleslaw. There are some tables outside to sit and a walk up window you can order from. I would definitely come here again and if your a Grateful Dead fan it's pretty groovy too!

The burgers are great, and the last time I tried their cheesesteak which normally comes with cherry peppers and red onion. I asked for it plain, and it was super delicious. Portion sizes are solid, and prices are reasonable considering the area. We actually ended up here because Pasta Volo -- one of my favorite spots in Asbury Park -- was closed that day. The Speakeatery made for a great backup. You order at the counter, and the service is decent. The space is long and narrow with some stool seating up front and more table and chair seating towards the back. The grill and kitchen are situated in the middle of the restaurant. The place only has indoor seating, which fits the speakeasy vibe nicely. Overall, I'd recommend The Speakeatery for breakfast or lunch when you're visiting Asbury Park for the day.

She recommended Cardinal Provisions, which had a great menu, so onward we went. It was perhaps major hubris on my end to show up at 11am and not expect a 1.5 hour wait. Well, we put our names down and took a walk to the Boardwalk. We ended up heading back a little before the 1.5 hour mark because the website where I was tracking our progress on the waitlist stopped working. We were seated at an outside table, but it was way too sunny, so I asked to be moved. They were able to accommodate us within 10-15 minutes. My mom and I opted to split two dishes, because neither of us could decide on what to order. We had the Cacio e Pepe Scrambled Eggs with breakfast sausage and garlic toast, and the Blueberry Skillet Cake with blueberry salted honey butter. First of all, our waiter did warn us that the skillet cake was huge, but we still wanted it anyways. It was, indeed, huge. But so good. Like a fluffy cake. The Cacio e Pepe eggs were phenomenal and I need to figure out how to make these at home. Service was attentive without being overbearing and we were never rushed. I think coming after 1pm is definitely the best time, since there were significantly less people waiting.

We were seated right away on a Thursday afternoon on their front sidewalk patio. I ended up ordering the Green Machine bowl (normally vegan and gluten free) but added grilled chicken to it. It was delicious! A combo of roasted broccoli, warm lentils, parsley pesto, avocado, and marinated kale. Everything was cooked perfectly, and while this is basically something I make on rotation at home, I loved the pesto sauce and will definitely be trying to replicate that on my own. Perfect lunch that left my full and not even a little sluggish. They do have a few drinks on the menu like kombucha, cold brew, and sodas, but if you are looking for anything more than that in the coffee arena, you'll need to pop by a neighboring cafe afterwards. Service was friendly but not too fast. It was a busy day and we were in no rush, so we didn't mind. All in all, a great place for a delicious brunch.

Carol chose the Pappardelle al Telephono Nostro, house made pasta, mozzarella, tomato-cream sauce and fresh basil. this was a large order and my wife loved it. I met up with my buddy Tyler from Foodula and we got the item I wanted...and then some! So the item I wanted was a meatball pizza that had meatball garlic knots as the crust. This would have been sufficient enough for anyone but ya know ... not us . We also ordered a pizza with cup and char pepperoni and chopped up mozz sticks on it where the crust was chicken vodka parm sliders. WHAT?!?! crazy. And maybe we added some wings. And uhh..maybe some thunder sticks. The thunder sticks were insane. Fried perfectly with great flavor and the cheese was perfectly melted. We had chil fil a flavored wings and also Thai chili wings. The wings themselves were cooked really well and had great juiciness and flavor. If I got these 2 apps I would have left perfectly happy. The pizzas were wild. I will admit in hindsight the mozz sticks on the vodka parm pizza were maybe a bit overkill on the cheesiness. Without them it may have been even better, but the cutlets were thin and cooked perfectly and the flavor was great. Both pizzas were a little doughier than I typically prefer but they had nice char and crispiness underneath. The meatball garlic knots were awesome. Meatballs had great flavor and texture. This place .. is not cheap. I do think what we had was worth the cost, but plan to spend more than you'd normally plan to spend on pizza here. With the bells and whistles comes dollar signs, I was okay with the tradeoff. Joe's Rotisseria - Didn't Suck!
