Big portions and local friendly service. The menu items are fairly priced and did not disappoint. It was difficult choosing what I wanted. The Meg - Huge portion, easily split between two people. The buffalo was not too saucy and a little on the less than average amount of sauce. Chicken was plentiful and it can get messy. Macaroni salad was one of the best I've had; simple. I was surprised to find that there's not a lot of delis down the shore (or at least in Asbury Park area). This is the exact kind of deli I was looking for. They do classic hot and cold subs, but they also have specialty subs where they do parms, wraps, etc. Great to pick up a sub and go to the beach. I enjoyed the American - which is roast beef, lettuce, tomato, provolone, onions, and horseradish mayo (which I left off and did oil and vinegar instead). Roast beef pretty soft in texture. Provolone could have been a little more sharp/flavorful. Overall, excellent spot. read more

We Thought this place would be better in Long Branch- but it was pricy and just eh. Not much flavor. The Two large subs were about $45 ish for deli meat ( Boars Head) and apparently an extra additional charge when I paid by credit card. ( which I found out after I paid so more expensive after the fact when I paid. ) Not thinking will go back.... When there are some other deli subs places better and cheaper. read more

Update: Been a while since I ordered from here. Reason I stopped going was inconsistency food wise. Circled back recently and had about 5 solid orders of hot subs. Then back to the same old stale sub roll on one and beyond chewy chicken cutlet on another sub. Ok, I get it things happen. But when you mention it to the owner and his response is really? Not I am sorry to hear that or let me make it up to you next time. Paying good money and went multiple times a week I expected more. Take it for what it is. Won't be rushing back. read more

While visiting the Long Branch area, I dedicated to stop by here, to try their cheesesteak. I recently saw an article from NJ.com, and they rated this cheesesteak one of the best in NJ. So, since I love a good cheesesteak, I had to try this one. I came on a Friday afternoon, and it wasn't too busy. I ordered the large cheesesteak special. Which came with onions, peppers, and mushrooms all chopped into the meat. The portion of the sandwich was large, so you get a lot for your money. Now, for the taste of the meat, it was delicious. It was cooked and seasoned well, and I really enjoyed that it was chopped thinly with the onions, peppers, and mushrooms, all mixed in with the cheese. I loved the roll that they used as well. The sandwich was just awesome and so good. I can see why it was rated one of the best and makes a top contender for me, too. The rest of the place looked really good as well, for their other deli sandwiches. I will be coming back for sure to try some other sandwiches out. Definitely recommended! read more

Was just looking for a different place to stop in and get a quick bite to eat, so on a whim I decided to try Neil's for the first time, and I will most definitely be back, after cashing my check on a Fri. afternoon. I had a ham, turkey and Swiss cheese sub and several hours later, I am still full, and I only had the 7' size. Very overstuffed indeed, with awesome, premium quality meats. The side of macaroni salad is very good and not that obligatory, overly sweet gunk, that many places serve. Made from scratch! Service was also very nice too. Very fast and friendly. Who knows, I may be back this weekend. read more

Neil's Kitchen is an institution. An institution of a delicious, variety of homemade goodness! I've been coming to Neils for years almost every week. I have never left disappointed with anything on the menu. I love the hot subs and the soups are a winner any time of year. Anything you order is certain to satisfy. Don't let the unassuming exterior fool you; all that glitters is inside. You know a place is good when it's regular customers are police, fire, EMS & teachers. This is THE local spot in Long Branch for a great sandwich, soup or salad. Their chicken cutlets sandwiches are my go to, add a cup of artichoke soup if you're famished, or feeling a little ambitious. Neil, Sally & Terri are always hustings to serve their crowded dining room. It can get hectic but it's also a place where they know your name and ask how are things. Often local business owners greet and chat while they wait for their food. Local flair and excellent food collide at Neil's and you're going to want to be a part of it! Neil's is my weekly spot and its well worthy of becoming yours too! read more

My mom and I love Neil's Kitchen! It is one of our favorite places to grab lunch before heading to the beach. We typically get a half size of the American sandwich which comes with roast beef, provolone, L&T, red onion, and horse radish mayo. It also comes with a little cup of the tastiest macaroni salad as well and a pickle spear. I typically like to order an extra 1/4 pound of macaroni salad on the side as well. It typically it takes about 15-20 minutes for my order to be ready, so definitely call in advance if you are in a rush or just don't feel like waiting. There are some tables and chairs inside as well if you are looking to dine in. I would love to try something new off of their menu, but the American sandwich never disappoints. How could I change my order when it's already so satisfying?! If I could change one thing; however, it is the roast beef. I prefer a nice pink roast beef whereas the roast beef on this sandwich tends to be more so on the well done side. In short, if you're looking for a yummy lunch/beach sandwich, this is most certainly the place for you! read more

I feel like a broken record reviewing this so high along with all the others but their sandwiches really are exceptional. We had a meatball sub that was amazing and the American which was perfect - particularly the amount of horseradish. We also had a sandwich with prosciutto and mozzarella that I can recall the name of but it too was great. The Mac and cheese is icing on the cake! read more

They get five stars for their macaroni salad alone. I wish I had brought a cooler with me so I could have brought some back home! They have a lot of set sandwiches listed on the board, and I had read some of the reviews beforehand, but I just went with what I was feeling when I was there: turkey, spinach, mozz, and roasted peppers. Everything tasted fresh, and the bread was pretty excellent as well. It wasn't too soft, but not too hard either (I could have done with a little bit more bite, but my teeth would have paid the price later), and it comes with a tiny 1/4 lb serving of their macaroni salad, which is the bomb. It is light on the mayo, has bits of carrots and celery, and isn't mushy. I don't know if they make their own pickles, but I don't care, because they serve their sandwiches with a giant quarter spear! It's relatively cheap - my half sandwich and peach Snapple was $11? If you want cheaper, you'll get cheaper, and you know what I mean. I will be back every time I am in Long Branch... and with a cooler. Oh, and Risky Business was on their television when I sat down to eat. Awesome. read more

I took Sue on a bit of a nostalgic trip to the Jersey shore. On the west coast where we live now we go to the coast. Growing up in NJ we went down the shore. This was a down the shore trip. We made our way from points south and found ourselves in Long Branch around lunchtime. A Yelp search took us to Neil's Kitchen. Sue wanted to go to an Italian deli. This was the closest I was able to do on this trip. We each got a sandwich and drink. I opted for Neil's Favorite ($7.50 for a small which was a good size). Prosciutto, fresh mozzarella and roasted red peppers topped with balsamic and oil. If I see this sandwich on a menu I usually go for it. It is a very simple sandwich, but still one of my favorites. The version here was good. Had plenty of meat and cheese and the roll kept up throughout the eating part of the meal. read more

Case in point - this restaurant has apparently been in the downtown area for several years and I had no idea. I stopped by here for lunch on Memorial Day with the Millennial Chum, and in a totally risky move, didn't make a reservation anywhere and just decided to wing it. The Millennial Chum's only requirement was that it be a place neither one of us had been to before, so after a very quick search/walk, we noticed this place and also decided we had a hankering for Italian. Done. I don't know how to describe the interior, but "yellow" and "modern" comes to mind. This isn't a stodgy white tablecloth kind of place; it's vibrant and hip, I'm sure trying to capture that classic Asbury demo. Really unique. The weather was a little meh, which worked in our favor - although there was a decent amount of foot traffic in the downtown area 70% of which were pooches, only one other table was occupied in here. We were able to sit down and were served very promptly. We were both very intrigued by one of the apps on the verbal specials menu - mango burrata, which sounded like sort of a mess, but also worth a try. Definitely more of the latter. Never would have thought to combine these two ingredients together, but it was really excellent and an interesting palate pairing. The presentation was solid as well, and this...didn't last long, although given that we both ordered entrees perhaps we should have been more responsible in that regard. Something I'd recommend for the regular menu in the future for sure. A lot of the entrees looked interesting and pretty authentic; this isn't just spaghetti and chicken parm (I'm not actually sure either was even on the menu). The one that emotionally spoke to me the most was the Pappardelle (one of my fave pastas and always pleased to see it) Al Telefono Nostro. Really hit the spot, and as you can see a really hardcore portion. The tomato cream sauce was light and flavorful, and the only nitpick I had (just a personal palate preference) was the inclusion of the sliced tomatoes. I'm sure a ton of people love those, and it basically adds a level of authenticity to the dish that a barbarian like me just can't quite appreciate. I made sure the Millennial Chum had a few tomato pieces though. Really good dish and would order it again. Honestly not sure what possessed us to even look at the dessert menu much less actually order from it, but I thought Oreo Tiramisu sounded interesting, despite the Millennial Chum's yowling that she despised tiramisu. It turns out she doesn't, because once this dish arrived she happily helped herself and decided that her opinion on tiramisu was likely based on a traumatic/misleading childhood incident. Bare minimum, this place gets solid marks for rewriting history for her in the Italian dessert department. But it WAS delicious, which was a theme of our meal. The service was top-notch; our waitress was over regularly and had a strong command of the menu (which I think deserves bonus points, given that this was not Americanized and it helped to have a metaphorical lifeguard helping us navigate some of the trickier stuff; I studied abroad in Florence over 20 years ago, but you'd never know it). Very pleasant. BIg recommend; not a ton of establishments under the radar in Asbury, but this might be one of them.

While they are busy during dinner, brunch is still undiscovered. Peace and quiet is so nice...
