Really fun restaurant! Food is good but atmosphere is great! Closes Tue and wed. Great lunch place with indoor or outdoor seating.

I came to this location on June 10, 2023 after coming back from retrieving Thing One from Summer camp. The outside has very little parking and looks like a little place that you may see in one of those small towns on the side of the road (wait, Center Point is a small town, LOL). When entering the establishment, visitors will find they can purchase a host of tchotchkes. After passing this area, visitors are met with a bar area and beyond that, an open outdoor seating area. While many reviewers describe the outdoors akin to stepping into the Caribbean, I describe it as a place that would make the late great Jimmy Buffett proud. When we sat at our table, we were greeted by the owner who struck up a conversation with my guest and Thing Two and handed us menus. We ordered a few things to include Queso with chips (meat added), chili cheese fries, two fish tacos, and a half order of sweet potato fries. Tilapia Fish Tacos Tilapia is not my favorite fish. However, it is often used at U.S. taco shops and trucks because of its price point. These can be a sustainable choice, for sure, but the filets can have a murky, muddy flavor that's best covered up with lots of vibrant toppings. These tacos were okay but not terrible. The pico for the tacos is actually what saved these tacos. Chili Cheese Fries Generally, chili fries are the perfect appetizer. Whether you get them at a Sonic drive-in or at a BBQ restaurant, cheesy fries coated in meaty chili are a combo that you just can't get wrong. However, these cheese fries were frozen from the bag fries and accompanied by what seemed to be a type of canned chili. After samping the tacos, I didn't expect this dish to be any more than the tacos (bar food quality). Overall, the service was pleasant and the rating given here is more for the customer service rendered as opposed to the food. The food is dive bar quality, but the atmosphere and service are far better than the food. read more

Loved, loved, loved Toucan Jim's! When you walk in you immediately feel like you're in a tropical location. Vibrant colors and plenty of room to hang out. The back yard area is amazing! Another great stop for bikers passing by. Interesting Tahitian type motif in the backyard. Small bar in the front is usually pretty crowded. Grab one of the grass hut covered tables in the back. Stopped for a quick lunch and we both had the special of the day. Crispy taco and enchilada with beans and rice. We were greeted by a super friendly young lady that was very open about sharing what a cool place we found. She made us feel very welcomed and we will probably come back another time. As for the food, not sure if "daily special" was really meant "get rid of this as it's reaching its date!" because we both were sick almost by the time we made it to the car. We stopped here after my father in laws funeral in Center Point. With zero advance warning to the restaurant, we showed up with 25 people and asked if they could accommodate us. They did. They went above and beyond to seat us all together, took our drink order, appetizers and food orders all in a timely manner and service was FANTASTIC. The food was great too. We had a variety : queso, cheese sticks, cheese fries, eggrolls, pulled pork sliders, quesadillas and nachos. Everything was very good. Highly recommend and will definitely be back. We stumbled upon this place and so glad we did. The ambiance is a surprising large tropical island getaway! The place has amazing places to sit under huts and enjoy the beautiful tropical plants and birds. The bartender was very friendly and attentive. The cold drinks hit the spot and the food was delicious! We had the wings, nachos and island tots. All were very flavorful and plentiful. Genuine Caribbean vibe in Center Point. Situated halfway between Kerrville and Comfort, Toucan Jim's doesn't look like much from the highway. In fact, it looks like someone's house. Once inside you'll find a happy group of mostly locals enjoying well prepared and reasonably priced food. Wen you walk out to the back yard, you'll find the real charm. It's a well-maintained jungle with tables named for tropical islands. The wait staff will locate your "island" supplying friendly info on the food and the host of the place. I can recommend the burger and the grilled fish tacos along with the cheese fries and queso dip with chips. The menu includes a wide variety of tropical drinks, wine and beer. It's noted that this establishment is a "private club" but the membership is free. For an unusual escape in the center point of Texas, Toucan Jim's is the ticket. read more

Great place that was in the middle of nowhere. If I were driving I would have never saw it or stopped. It looks like an abandoned house. When you get to the back it is a tiki oasis. A great place with a great story. We arrived Sunday just as they were closing early to spend part of Easter with their families. Jim, the owner, apologized for closing early and said come see us tomorrow. So we did! There is very little parking in front, and the front of the building gives you no clue what's inside. Step inside and you are hit with the colors of the Caribbean! So bright, so colorful, so fun! Beach music is playing. There is outdoor seating for about 300. Each table has a Caribbean name. Palm trees and tropical plants everywhere. The outside dining is actually a tropical paradise that Jim has created. I wish we were here in the middle of summer to get the full on green effect! While we waited on our food, Jim told us the story of starting to build a restaurant in DFW, and ending up with his dream in Kerrville. I congratulate him for achieving his dream. My beef nachos and Glenda's fish tacos arrived. Delicious and plenty of food. Brittany was an incredible waitress. So cheerful and fun. The rum punch and pina colada were cold and delicious. As much as I love this place, I bet dining outside in the middle of summer is quite warm. If your on this end of Interstate 10, stop in and see Jim. You'll love it! read more

Very unusual find in Center Point, TX. Friendly staff, great atmosphere, good food. Most of the food is fried, but some items are made in-house. Started with the jalapeño poppers. Very good flavor and not real hot, very good. Also had the cheese quesadilla. It came with guacamole, sour cream and pico de gallo. Another really nice flavor, and lots extras. Split the basic cheese burger with fries and onion rings. Another great dish. When you get there, ask for Jennifer. Really great personality, fun person. Also, has a full bar and many good craft beers on tap. I would make the time to stop by for lunch or dinner. read more

The coolest atmosphere, better than margaritaville! The margaritas were perfect, not too sweet. The service was exceptional as well, we were a big group and the owner made sure we had everything we needed. The regulars were very nice and welcoming. Absolutely darling place. Everything about this place is tropical. It really is a great place to visit with a fabulous atmosphere. You'll really feel you're on an island. The decorations alone will keep you coming back. Our server was very friendly and good. There were six of us and she did take care of us. At our table the cheese quesadilla was very good. One person mentioned the fish tacos were way too spicy but the brisket was the loser of the meals. It was awful! We've traveled across the south tasting brisket and this is the worst I've ever had. There was very little flavor but the biggest negative was that it was cooked and tough just like jerky. Who eats jerky in a sandwich? I couldn't. Don't order the jerky ... err, I mean, brisket. The atmosphere would bring us back with a group but not the food. However, there are other things on the menu to taste. I'd probably try something else but have a discussion if it was bad, I was sending it back. Notice the 3 stars ... it's for the island feel and the server. read more

Ehh... The atmosphere is very different. We tried to get away from the bar area because people were smoking but we still were able to smell the smoke. All the tables are outside so mosquitoes were a HUGE problem! Not a lot of different food choices. I got the taco salad and it was ok. The ground beef was good but the beans were not. Super friendly servers, service was a little slow considering it was a Saturday at lunch and there were only four other tables occupied. Loved that there were so many tables and we felt secluded from everything. Water served in styrofoam, food in baskets. I had fish tacos, highly recommend. Great flavor, fish grilled not fried, good slaw, corn tortillas. Very good. Husband had hamburger, said burgers cooked medium well, I would hate to see well done. Burger was crisp and black.
