Wanted to buy a food item to take to a friend, and Pies showed up on Yelp! Pies are homemade. I had a nice sample of a peach pie with a good crust. There is a nice selection of single fruit pies like peach, blueberry, cherry or apple, mixed fruit pies and what I'd call speciality pies. The more ingredients, the more costly. The one I looked at was a pear caramel pie. Sounds delish! Individual small pies are for sale. They are $5 each or four for $15. That's the deal I went with. I chose for me the cherry bourbon pie. Others I will give a friend. In the case are a few pastries and donuts. Gray's Sausage rolls would make a nice light lunch. Those will bring me back. read more

I love their pies. They have come to my rescue on several occasions when I had to bring a dish to a family event. Last family reunion I was running behind on time. I ordered a mixed berry pie. It was still warm when I got it. The only regret was that everyone scarfed up the pie. It was gone before I was able to try it. I stopped in here on a whim, and liked what I saw! There is a variety of fruit pies and savory quiches. When he heard it was my first visit, the guy at the counter threw a cookie in my bag. I went with 2 of the hand pies, since the alternative is full sized, and I wasn't looking to buy a whole pie. Good filling to crust ratio, very nice crust, and interesting fillings! I liked the Sunshine one, peach and cherry. They mentioned pot pies, and I'm a sucker for a pot pie, so will definitely return when it's closer to pot pie season! read more

I got the blue berry pie. I'm returning it in the morning. The crust doesn't have any butter flavor and mostly tastes like flour. I have a hard time believing they use butter. The pie filling is dry and has little flavor. While a runny fruit pie isn't good, this pie's tiny blueberries are tightly packed and fall around the plate like mini marbles. read more

Heading into the holidays, I received their holiday order form. From their past endeavors (Grey House Pizza and the very short lived savory hand pie place, behind Grey House Pizza, as well as Grey House Pies), I knew they really push the envelope on pricing. But I was going to splurge, I ordered two Fruitcakes (spiked) and a quart of their eggnog (spiked). Total cost $50. Granted, I knew in ordering this that I probably would be discouraged based on what I get. But, I did it anyway. I accept it. The eggnog was good. Defiantly thinner, not thick and creamy. Taste of the alcohol came through. Was this worth $20/qt. - heck no. I got completely fleeced on this one. Onto the two fruitcakes (both spiked). They come in a LITTLE baking tin (measuring 5 inches long at the base and 6 inches long at the top). They are very good and not your typical thick chunks of dried fruit, defiantly more like a cake. Not overly sweet either. No really discernable pieces of fruit, other than maybe dark pieces of raisin or current that didn't get beat up/processed. Again, here is the problem - the $15 per fruitcake price - for a 5 inch cake. A 1 inch piece for a guest is very small, and that would represent $3. Realistically you would have 4 servings of the 2 fruitcakes. That's over $7/serving and that is absolutely ridiculous. Would I do this again. While the fruitcake is darn good, I am glad I tried it once, but I cannot see myself paying such high amounts for such skimpy amounts. Note: I am not surprised as the Detroit style pizzas were great, however they were pricey as can be. I took a large and a small over to a friend's house - and spent $60 on the order. The four of us finished off the order with no problem. The savory pie store behind Grey House Pizza was selling the "Hand pies" (they were round) - I believe (and I am going off memory, so I could be wrong) they were a 2.5 inch base and 4 inch top for something like $7 pie. Essentially 4 bites per pie. You need at least 2-3 pies for a dinner, complemented with a salad. The owner could claim supply chain issues and lack of staff, but your average Lakewood resident can't drop this kind of money. To me, the pricing is just on the upper edge. In summary, the products are good. I may not consider them the best that is out there but I would say they defiantly represent quite well. It's just a question of whether you think you are getting what you paid for. Obviously only you could answer that. read more

I stumbled upon this place a few months ago when I was looking for a dessert to bring to a dinner. I have since been back and purchase the exact same thing I got the first time and it's been a hit both times. They have all types of pies here but the one I purchased was the "sunshine pie"this is a mix of cherries and peaches. Super inventive and an interesting idea, also extremely delicious. I will continue to buy this every time I go. They have all sorts of pies to choose from - fruit, cream, specialty pies, mini pub pies (which includes Mac and cheese), quiche, pot pies, etc. they have so many different inventive pies and I definitely plan to return for more. I think I paid around $14 for a pie but I think that was worth it. Also the staff is always super friendly. They also have a rewards program and they send me emails all the time with five dollar off your purchase coupons! read more

Disappointed... I had been wanting to try Grays for some time, and just never got the opportunity. I was in the neighborhood on a Saturday afternoon, and was excited to final try their pies. I noticed on the website, that they had individual hand pies. I was thinking more in line of a turnover type pie, but upon arriving, they were actual mini pies, which was fine. Selection was limited, so I opted for peach. There were a few full sized pies to choose from, but thought that I would try the smaller version first. Glad that I did, and also glad that I only bought one. Upon arriving home, I proceeded to unwrap the mini pie, and I knew immediately that I was going to be disappointed. The top of the pie was doughy and gummy, and upon digging into the pie, I noticed it was dry and mostly dough, with just 4 thin slices of peaches. Upon tasty the first fork full. The crust was indeed gummy, and tough. I couldn't eat it, ended up throwing it away. I'm hoping that maybe the mini pies had been sitting for a while, and exceeded, optimum shelf life. The pies were great! The mini blueberry pie was deliciously fruity and a nice flavorful homemade crust and crumble topping. The mushroom artichoke pot pie was super buttery soft and the flavorful filling very hot. They have grab and go hot savory pies. The downsides here are that it is a mess inside, there are limited drink options (only full sugar Snapple- not even water which amazes me), there were no utensils or napkins, and the baked goods otherwise kinda stunk. The brownie was so hard on the outside I could barely bite it without risking my teeth. Inside it was somewhat soft. The shortbread with chocolate was also woefully stale. Ordered two pies to take to family Thanksgiving in Buffalo NY. Online ordering was the only option, but it worked perfectly and allowed me to select a pick-up time. When I arrived, the pies were ready to go and prepaid. Doesn't get much easier than that. Family raved about them. Win! read more

Oh me oh my what a nice tiny pie! If you've been reading my reviews you know I always love it when a place offers mini/sampling sizes (shout out to flights and pairings!). If it's smaller you can try out a couple different kinds, or you don't have to worry about much waste if you don't like something, or you can just enjoy one and your craving is satisfied without feeling like a gluttonous Jabba The Hutt. So I really like that Gray House Pies offers mini sized pies (they call them "hand pies") AND they have a lunch special (11a-1p) where you can get a mini sweet pie paired with a savory pub pie, slice of Detroit style pizza, or mini quiche for only $6! They also have a deal on Tuesdays where you get three mini pies for only $5 which normally costs double! I've never had sweet potato pie before, but I was glad I took the chance to try it out, very tasty! I've also tried one of the mixed berry pies, and a spinach and feta quiche. I don't usually like pie crust, but here the crust is so light, buttery, and flaky that I would eat this part first! I've also tried a slice of their Detroit style pizza and it was good as well. This style of pizza is rather thick and I think next time I will ask for a side of pizza sauce to dip it into. My only slight negative would be that they did not have any of the savory pub pies and it does not look like they make cream or specialty pies in the mini version. I could be wrong and they were just completely sold out the times I have been there, I'll have to arrive early and ask them next time I go. But other than that, I think their offerings are tasty, affordable, and very easy to heat up in the oven! read more

I ordered pies for our family Christmas on Dec 5th. Due to having 4 adult kids and significant others we celebrate our Christmas the following week. On Dec 20th Gray House Pies called me to tell me that they could not fulfill my order because they will be closed that week. The website took my order and took my payment with no notice until Dec 20th when it was too late to order pies from anywhere else. I wanted more compensation than a credit for my order. The manager was going to ask the owner and no one ever called me back...they just credited my credit card for my order total. As a person that works with the public I know that this was terrible customer service! They should have at least given me a gift card for 2 pies in the future for good will. read more

Major disappointment. I ordered several pies (for Pi day) and all of them were bad. The crust was overly thick/clunky and had no flavor. it was missing salt at a MINIMUM, but just tasted of heavy lard/shortening. No one at our company like them, so we ended up throwing them out -- and that was a lot of $$ to throw away. :( read more

Gray House Pies is a real Cleveland gem! I met them initially at the Waterloo Arts Festival and the North Union Farmer's Market. After enjoying a number of their pies (the Sunshine Moonshine, Drunk Cherry, and Key Lime are easy favorites!) we chose Gray House to supply the dessert for our wedding. Gray House's homemade pies are what you would make at home - from-scratch ingredients! For the key lime pie, they make their own graham crackers for the crust! You might miss Gray House's nondescript location in a strip mall in Westlake, but it's worth looking for! When you pop into the shop, they have additional goodies du jour (scones, short bread, etc.) that are a must-try! Our wedding was a small affair (35 people) and the 10 pies we ordered we nearly all eaten. Afterward, the pie was one of the things people most raved about! I hope everyone gets this review before Thanksgiving. I purchased my pumpkin pies for our family gathering (and one for me to taste). The pumpkin pie had the perfect balance of creamy and spice. The crust was flaky--a lost art. It melted in my mouth. Wow! Grey House pies was recommended to me by several people. They called it a "hidden gem". Absolutely! The quiche was wonderful. Heat for 20 minutes at 350*. I am glad that the pies are preservative free. They advertise that they use only the freshest of ingredients. No canned fruit for them. They even peel their apples. I hope somebody gets this because I am so disappointed. I ordered a chicken pot pie expecting the size of a 9 inch pie not a four-inch pie. I ordered mushrooms and cheese with it and I didn't get that. When I picked the order up the guy looked at me like he didn't know what I was talking about. $18.50 for this little pie that had a quarter cup of chicken maybe four carrots, with no peas and a lot of gravy. The $3 extra for mushrooms, and $3 extra for cheese that were not in the pie...really! I'm glad I didn't get this for the family it would've been embarrassed . So disappointing!!! I've been a Gray House Pies fan for many years. I've had their fruit hand pies at farmers markets and from the store and have loved them. I always take a couple of pies to celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas out of state most years. A fav is the apple jack apple that I wouldn't have tried except an employee recommended it and wow. Last year I took it to a gathering and apple pie connoisseurs proclaimed it the best they've ever had. I'm not even usually an apple pie fan and I agreed. This year I sheltered at home to keep everyone safe but I ordered two pies for Christmas. They only offered the traditional apple that was soooo delish. Still like the Apple Jack more but this ine was really fabulous. Pastry was tender and great flavor. The apples were full of flavor and spiced and baked perfectly. I also ordered a pumpkin with the pecan topping and it pains me to have to share this but it was just plain terrible. One slice and it went into the trash. Seriously, inedible. Dense, heavy and lacking the traditional pumpkin pie spices spices and the silky texture of a pumpkin pie. I have to say I was completely shocked. Could it be an outlier? Did I get a bad one? Was it just me? I had shared it with a friend and had to call to apologize. Even though gifted they were honest and said they couldn't eat it so it wasn't just me! At Thanksgiving I missed the ordering deadline for Gray House and got a pumpkin pie from the local grocer's bakery and it was perfectly spiced and delish. Not the deliciousness of a pie crust of Gray House but still very good. Moral of the story is to stick with their apple or berry or cherry pies -- they deserve 5 stars. Years ago I attended my Ohio City block club summer outdoor potluck and tried the pie. It was so great, I searched out the baker...but it was a bringer, not a baker. It was from Gray House and I was sure it had to be home baked. I've gone out to Gray House dozens of times since and can't imagine a better pie.
