I'm vera sorry I didn't bring her heels
    Fox E.

I was lost in the market, but things became CLEARER When I saw this place, and as I got NEARER Barbi said "OMG", but I couldn't HEAR HER Cause I was busy staring at the Kolacky's from VERA So she said in Spanish "Ay, novio, MIRAR" And then opened her purse and eyed herself in the MIRROR Yes I'm gay for pastries, but Vera made me QUEERER So come and get some pastries now from VERA If they close, it'll be the end of an ERA I'd move to the country and become a sheep SHEARER But every time my Barbi's in Ohio, I STEER HER To the West Side Market for some pastries from VERA WHAT! The best bakery in Cleveland, and that needs no Vera-fication. But if you need some new boobie implants, go instead to Vera's Nationality Fakery. And if you actually just want to party because someone died, go instead to Vera's Nationality Wakery. And if you actually want to learn how to steal donuts, go instead to Vera's Nationality Takery. This is a vera special bakery with vera specific kinds of stuff that are vera specifically from the old world and vera special in my opinion. If they wanted to censor the internet instead of making great pastries, they'd be Vera's Net Neutrality Bakery. Cleveland is full of Eastern European folks, and they make some pretty delicious fruit pastries, and they make them amazingly here. They're called Kolacky Cookies. They're delicious and chalky and dusty and authentic and perfectly made, filled with different delicious fruits. If they were worried that every customer was going to rob them, they'd be Vera's Neurotic Bakery. It's definitely one of the best bakeries in Ohio, and actually one of the best Eastern European bakeries I've ever been to. It's one of about 10 amazing places that you can't miss when you come to the West Side Market, and it's so dirt cheap that it's easy to combine it with all the other great stuff in town, and in this market. Frank's Bratwurst, Lemon and Sugar Crepe from Crepes Du Luxe, some pepper jerky from Czuchraj Meats, a Maha Falafel sandwich... are the ones I'd insist you try. If they were big fans of Barbie's extreme silicone body, they'd be Vera's Non-natural-please Bakery. So I highly recommend that you do that, and include Vera's on your itinerary in Cleveland's unmissable WSM. It's too delicious to put into words, so I'm not going to try to describe it except to just tell you but you need to come here and try all the different fruit pastries and figure out which one is your favourite for yourself. And if they were big fans of Shawn Mendes, they'd be Vera's No-ability Bakery. And: And if you actually just want to date a witch, go instead to Vera's Nationality Burned At The Stakery. And if you actually just want to look like Sideshow Bob, go instead to Vera's Nationality Stepped On A Rakery. And if you're trying to help Samuel L Jackson get serpents off a plane, go instead to Vera's Nationality Motherf***ing De-Snakery. And: I've been accused of debauchery and FAKERY When I'm in Cali, all my friends act FLAKERY Still if you wanna eat steak, go to a STEAKERY But if you're in Cleveland, come to VERA'S BAKERY! WHAT

Vera's is located in The West Side Market, they specialize in fresh baked breads, pastries and global treats. Walking by their bread blossoms tjey caught my eye. They fill the soft flavorfull bread with different ingredients from onion & parmesan to jalapeno & cheddar they have 7 different varieties. They are really worth picking up a few, they are delicious. We also tried their larger than your head cinnamon pecan crisp, this too had wonderful cinnamon flavor and had a nice crunch with the pecans. All the staff are funny and friendly, you can tell they really enjoy what they are doing. They 2 guys waiting on us were amazing and extremely helpful. Will definitely be back!

I would marry Vera and happily die in a sugar coma. The apricot kolaches are to die for. I will never buy from anyone else.

Vera's napoleons are awesome. The pastry is good & the custard is smooth and lush. That's all I've had here & that's all I need.

The man who runs the stand is quite rude. Bread isn't anything special either.

Had been craving Leavened for a week and finally decided to give in. Only problem is it's near my…read moregym... so I got pastries after a workout session. Whatever. I'm so sad about this, but this was not my favorite experience at Leavened. Customer service was great of course but my selections fell short. I got a mushroom and ricotta croissant, which was fine. I forgot the ricotta was supposed to be there because it mostly tasted liked mushroom, but it was good. I also got the cinnamon monkey bread. This was not good. It was seemingly cooked in the paper that it was served in so the top of the bread pieces were crunchy, the middle was softer and then everything else was completely stuck to the paper. I didn't get to eat about 1/3 of what I paid for and I had to work really hard for the other 1/3. Also, the bread had a very spicy taste. It must have been cinnamon and allspice, but it was entirely too much and very overpowering. It truly tasted like a spicy savory bread which is not what I was expecting or wanted. Monkey bread is usually gooey and sweet. This missed the mark, but that's okay. I'll certainly return for another treat soon. Also the bread was looking fire this day.

I think I've tried this place enough to finally declare it an overall disappointment. Today I tried…read morethe hoisin tofu sandwich. The bread was fresh and crusty, there were two small strips of tofu that had maybe been dribbled on by hoisin sauce at some point, some lettuce and jalapeño slices, and carrots. The sandwich was dry as a bone and a really sad empty version of a banh mi. The chocolate rye cookie I bought as a back up was thankfully still deliciously chocolatey and soft as usual. The guy at the register said the bread pudding still has a "cinnamon roll base, so it has orange in it" despite nothing in the sign denoting this awful addition to bread pudding and the fact that cinnamon rolls are not orange rolls. But I digress and I won't fight with a cashier over their poor decisions lol. Also got a cherry chocolate sourdough on impulse. Pray it is soft inside.

We ordered the Napoleon, Amaretto Square, the Gerbaud, and Apple Linzer. The Napoleon was a 10 out of 10. We are one in the car and went back for more. The texture was great. Flaky, creamy, delicious. The Amaretto Square. Was good as well. Not too sweet, beautifully made. The Amaretto flavor wasn't as good as some others I've had. Maybe it's the type of flavoring/Amaretto used. The Gerbaud was definitely a crunchier dessert. Again made beautifully and has great flavor. The Apple Linzer. Another hit. The filling and Crust were perfect. Wouldn't change a thing. Service was great. Obviously this place has been around for a very long time. They know what they are doing. Only thing I would say is that it needs a facelift. Maybe not for locals but coming from out of town the look doesn't make you want to come in. Nor does the way the pastries are show cased. It just all feels run down. Not a place I would ever visit or offer good from ordinarily if I hadn't read such great reviews before going. We all eat with our eyes first.

I was looking for a bakery that makes Dobos Torte and came across Farkas Pastry Shop. We also loved the poppyseed roll as well as the Tepertös Pogácsa. It was great talking with Mike while picking up my order. It was well worth the drive to Cleveland! Can't wait till my next visit to Farkas! Köszönöm Szépen!
