I've been craving oysters and I have been eyeballing this place for a long time. We finally got around to coming here and I am happy we did. I got the Chesapeake oysters (they were huge!), Bloody Mary and their clam chowder. All of it was good. The clam chowder tasted exactly what I was hoping for, nothing fancy just normal chowder that tastes like home. We also ordered the deviled eggs to share but they were a bit salty. Service: server was delightful unfortunately she didn't bring out our appetizer and did not come back around for a while when we finished eating. Food: Very disappointing. We ate here about 2 years ago and the fish and chips were great. This time the fish was greasy and the fries tasted like they were from a freezer bag. The fries used to be soooo good. Flat wedge fries. Unsweetened tea was from a fountain and not fresh brewed. Appetizer was ok but the dipping sauce was not great. Seems like they reduced the cost and quality of their ingredients. Price: Outrageous. My wife and I split the $25 fish and chips. $25! For the quality that is nuts. I'd recommend Kitchen Social. Fish and chips there is better and only about $18. Overall I was disappointed and won't be returning. The only reason I gave it 2 stars was the server. read more

Two of us Dined in for an early lunch. First off we Ordered the honey bread appetizer. It's served in a hot cast iron pan with a ball of butter on top. Delicious. I ordered the cod sandwich. The cod piece was fried to perfection. The fries were meaty and delicious. Our other entree was the salmon meal. No complaints. I'm not normally a "fish" person, but my wife loves it. Over the years, we've dined her and I'm amazed to say, this is one of the few spots where I actually eat fish. The Cod is deep fried, but you'd never know it. Not a molecule of oil. Nice tasting fries too! In a real twist, my fish-loving wife can't get past the Shrimp with Grits. It's a topsey-turvey world at Salt Mary's. We can't pass the Bread Pudding dessert, either. Give it a try. The menu is full of great food. read more

Well, goodness me -- this place is just lusciously delicious! The food? Our selections were off the chain. We started with the deviled eggs - extremely creamy; a little kick; topped with a crisp cornichon. We had 4 different varieties of oysters -- all perfectly chilled and served with both cocktail and a green sauce mignonette, with plenty of lemon. Now for the showstoppers -- I had the N'awklins shrimp and grits. Oh my! The shrimp were nestled on top of the silky cheddar grits, and blackened - seasoned beautifully and cooked just right - not mushy or chewy. But the star? The broth! Tomato based, the depth of flavor was unexpected, and so good, I could have eaten a bowl of just that. My husband had Cioppino, which I could not taste due to GF. His description -- the broth was rich and thick -- not like a typical cioppino broth. It was was chock full of seafood -- very hearty -- with mussels; shrimp; calamari; clams, and just a touch of heat. The bread was also a standout -- baked to order, and then charred. The waitress suggested the seafood broil, either 1/2 pound or 1 lb, without naming the price. We ordered the pound of seafood broil. Lots of potatoes, small crab legs which required a lot of work for little meat, and four of the mussels were still closed (not boiled long enough to be safe to eat). The bill for one pound of seafood broil was $120! Suggest that if a pound of anything--caviar from the Black Sea, uranium, a first edition of a Dicken's novel--be sure to inform the customer! Again, lot's of potatoes, undercooked shell fish, and not a lot of other seafood: $120! Better off enjoying a good meal at another restaraunt. read more

Food was great. I got the fish n chips and my mom got the crab cakes and we both commented on the crispness and lack of oily-ness that sometimes you get with deep fried food. My wife got the crab legs and really enjoyed them, and at a great price. The hush puppy appetizer was very good as well. We'll be coming back. The only thing I'd improve is having a wider variety of beer on tap, but they do have a decent selection of bottles and cans. read more

A group of us went here for Sunday brunch and a book club discussion! I have to say that everyone from the girl I spoke with on the phone, to the hostess to our server were sooooo extremely kind and helpful. Some of us did the brunch menu and some did lunch- all did not disappoint! I ordered the New England clam chowder which was delicious and the wedge salad. That was big and very tasty. Came for an early NYE dinner. The service was friendly & efficient. We started with calamari & split a chop salad which is huge! I was hoping for king crab, but they serve snow, so I decided on a blackened walleye sandwich with cheddar grits in place of fries. It was very tasty. My son ordered the lobster roll and really liked it. We ended our meal with a cherry vanilla bourbon bread pudding and it too was delicious. I love this place! Server: "How would you like it?" Me: "OMG...hand formed?" Server: "Alas, no." So it came medium (ordered medium well) and unseasoned. But best factory patty I've encountered. Rounded edges and likely a half-pound. Great bun. Oysters...substantial...large w liqueur and the mignonette wasn't just poured vinegar...it was chewy, and it bit back! Shrimp...delish, again substantial...'bay shrimp' fears unsubstantiated. Mussels and fries...fantastic. Service...not rated, tho they did forget us in the shift turnover. Tonight I had little time but a craving for some calamari and a fish sandwich. I've been meaning to stop in for awhile but decided to call in an order since I had plans later. Thank god I called in the order and I'll be eating inside soon Their calamari was great but the blackened walleye sandwich HIT THE SPOT! And did I mention this was take out?! The bun on the sandwich was perfect and I loved every peppery bite! The walleye was perfect and their thin cut fries complimented the entire meal ... nothing was left. Have wanted to come to this establishment for some time, finally did it. This was a very nice stop along our journey out of Ohio. Nice quality seafood (oysters and shrimp). Definitely a solid dining experience.

I was no where near being salty after leaving here! We came here after a recommendation and were really impressed! The menu has a lot of delicious items that don't break the bank and good quality! We started with the edamame, which was soooo yum. Also got the cornbread which was sweet and delicious it could've been a dessert. The honey butter on it is to die for. The oysters also were great. For entrees I go the Po Boy and love how it was just ever so slightly fried. Great casual atmosphere and great food!! Definitely sending the recommendation along! read more

I've been a few times already bc they are my BFF's & here is what I've tried. First night the big wedge which is an entree in itself. Loaded with bacon which is never a bad thing, and bleu crumbles. Nice plates too! I had the old bay shrimp entree it's the best I've had around here or anywhere. Big firm beautiful shrimp & the zippy horseradish cocktail sauce. Man I love a good shrimp cocktail & this is the tops. Blue point oysters next day for lunch. Beautiful & fresh off the half shell. Again the wonderful cocktail sauce that I like to add, and a vinegar based sauce too that was very good. Clam chowder also that day & it's great. Next trip we had the Phil collins drinkees at the bar. A Tom collins with purple stuff I could look up the ingredients but what fun is that. Nice list of specialty cocktails & a fine wine selection too. Fancy! That night the piping hot chicken reggiano, when max asked me how it was I couldn't contain myself THIS IS F GREAT!! I love a good pan fried chicken breast & this one is times 2! Man it was great & the creamed spinach comes with I smashed it. Shrimp scampi app next day for lunch, great big shrimp wonderful garlic base. I kept dunking the bread in there. Very filling. Such a good baguette I wonder where they get it. What else. Oh yes the deviled eggs, so good. Best I've had around here & I've been so routinely disappointed by other establishments eggs. These have a celery salt on them that is so good I cried. Nice & firm.
