Aberdeen does not have a bookstore to speak of (I suppose there's the Christian bookstore in the mall, but if you want fiction, it's either Wally World or the grocery store) and that is a real gap that the library helps to fill. While the catalog for the Aberdeen library isn't large, the Timberland Regional Library system is huge, spanning five or six (maybe seven, I'm losing track) counties, and it's based in Olympia. So there is a lot more in terms of resources than the city of Aberdeen itself could ever hope to pull together. And with computerized library holds for virtually all its media, you can get obscure titles relatively quickly. The library system only recently instated overdue fines. This has made them able to purchase an even wider selection of media because they don't have to buy large numbers of popular books, CDs and DVDs anymore (people wouldn't turn them in by the due date, which meant the library system would overpurchase popular items to compensate). I don't think a single person was bummed out by this, in fact, I (an occasional abuser of the system, but not out of control) thought it was a great idea. The library now has a security guy inside all the time, which may make you feel safer (there are lots of people who, oh, use a lot of services and don't really have another place to go during the day that hang out there). The bathrooms are clean and there's always plenty of parking. The Aberdeen TImberland library is a pretty solid cornerstone of our downtown, and so important for all it does for our town.

The staff here will always greet you with a huge smile and be willing to go out of their way to help you find something or do anything else you might need help with. Heck, even the security guard lady is really friendly and sweet!

Housed in a renovated Carnegie library building around the corner from where the bus stops, they even have an old grandfather clock and their underground parking beats Aberdeen's tiny outside area. The only downside is the main collection is on the second floor, while the bathrooms are in the basement. I also wish they weren't closed on Mondays. As in other Timberland libraries, the WiFi is good and they even allow limited free printing. Their interlibrary loan is also free and you can return materials to any Timberland branch.

While passing through Aberdeen, I decided to do a mini Nirvana pilgrimage and check out the town that Kurt Cobain grew up in. After spending time at Kurt Cobain Memorial Park near Young Street Bridge, I walked over to his childhood home. The house is just around the corner. It has been refurbished and it is gated off. Someone else currently lives here, so all that you can do is take photos from the sidewalk. Cool historic place to check out, especially if you grew up a Nirvana fan like me. But there is not much else to see or do.

It was purchased by Lee and Danielle Bacon in 2018 from the Cobain family. They paid $225,000...a bargain considering that the cardigan Cobain wore in 1993 on the set of "MTV Unplugged" sold at auction for $334,000. At the time of this review, you cannot go inside, but plans are in the works to make private tours available in the near future. Tours will begin about 1.5 miles away at a soon to be opened Nirvana tribute lounge and gallery cafe as zoning does not allow the home to operate as a traditional museum. It's great to see Aberdeen finally beginning to embrace Cobain's contribution to music history. Fans travel great distances from all around the world to find Cobain's beginnings and pay tribute in the town that helped to shape him. Just a few days prior to writing this review, the Aberdeen City Council unanimously voted to make February 20th (Cobain's birthday) Kurt Cobain Day.

While the Hanford Site in Eastern Washington was instrumental to the Manhattan Project, there is a noticeable lack of nuclear energy projects in the Pacific Northwest (with only two active reactors that I know of- at said Hanford Site, and the student run reactor at Reed College in Portland, Oregon.) Trojan Nuclear Power Plant in Oregon has been closed for many years and it's distinctive cooling tower was demolished back in 2006- so where can you go for some photo shoots and pseudo-urban exploration? Well, Satsop is within daily driving distance from Seattle and Portland and considering the price (free,) it is well worth stopping by.

I have no way to get my packages. I have to take off work and leave work early just so I can make sure that I get my packages and that they don't get returned to the sender so when I talked to the ladies that work at the post office and I simply told them that I have no way to pick up my packages unless they put them in the island for me to pick up after hours they just told me that they are too busy to do that , all I'm saying is they should have a solution for this because it's very frustrating. There is no good shops around here and online shopping for a lot of people. Is there only resort to get the things that they want and at the end of the day this establishment is very anti-consumer they don't have solutions for their problems. They'd rather get mad at the people who simply live here. Trust me living here is not a positive thing so I'm sorry to the employees that are tasked with the painstaking objective of putting away mail. We should all apologize as customers of the Cosmopolis post office for wanting to get our packages before they are returned to the sender since the people at the post office will just hold your package and not try to put it in a place where you can access it outside of business hours I really think they need a better system so people can pick their packages up past 5 o'clock because I am going to have to take time off work just to pick up my packages since they do not listen when I ask them kindly to put their packages in the island for me to pick up. they do not utilize that system at all. I know that's kind of morbid, but with a name like Cosmopolis, it sounds super futuristic. There is nothing futuristic about this mill town. It is right next to the water which brings the lumber to the mill which is kind of cool. This post office is small though and has parking on the street and it perfect for the size of this town. The whole town is really clean as well.
