So I've been wanting to try this place and I never have time because they close so early. So I was able to stop by downtown today. I got the Omelette with cheese ,turkey and onions on a asiago bagel. So as I opened it up to take a pic I noticed the egg wasn't done so I took it back and she made it over with no problem. Great lil bagel place. A lot of options to pick from. Of course you can also creat your own combinations. It is packed in the morning with students so leave yourself enough time if you want to come pay this place a visit. The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is the coffee was just average. For some reason it wasn't as hot as it should be and the tables are super close together. It's just hard to move around inside. Lastly the door needs to be fixed, it's made as a push door but it's a pull. No points deducted for that and it was funny to see people play around with it as they tried to enter. There is always a line at this place and it is well deserved. The bagels here are comparable to doughy goodness I've had in NY, but with much friendlier people (they don't rush you to order). This place is all around solid. The bagels are very fresh and technically well executed. If you're a stickler about perfect New York style texture, you may be slightly disappointed (but then again, you're also probably expecting too much in the first place). The menu is basically a creative array of "breakfast" and "lunch" bagel sandwiches, plus a few soups and salads. My boyfriend and I both got the "NYC": lox, cream cheese, tomato, and red onion. I got it on a poppy seed, and it's worth noting that the bagel was well coated with seeds (it's always a bummer when a good bagel is skimpy on the toppings). All the fillings were heaped on in generous portions, and at $6.45, it was a steal! They serve Intelligentsia coffee, the famed Chicago roaster known for consistency and complex flavor. Though I only had a cold press (which was delish), I did creep on their espresso set up a bit. With an all-manual machine and a barista who knew what he was doing, I would order a craft beverage there with confidence. Though the place was busy, the cashier moved the line quickly and we got our food in less than 5 minutes. The whole staff seemed to be enjoying themselves, while also working really well together. The interior is basic, but comfortable. With tons of natural light and free wifi, if would be a good place to come to get a little work/reading done. Also, they have a parking lot, which I'm learning (as a new resident of Lexington) is a big bonus. I'm looking forward to trying more things on the menu and anticipate many return visits! read more

I usually don't get a chance to eat breakfast somewhere I can sit down because if I'm not already on my way to work, I'm sleeping in so I can work late. But today I went in to work the wrong shift and found myself with some spare time. And I've been meaning to try the Great Bagel for some time now, as I've only really heard good things. I went in around 8:30 am or so, the line only had a few people ahead of me. I ordered an NYC Everything Bagel. Never having experienced lox before, I was looking forward to this opportunity. The first thing that I noticed was that the bagel was wrapped twice, which confused me momentarily. As I examined it, I realized the outer wrapping was for travel and the inner wrapping was for holding for consumption. With the amount of toppings on this puppy, it was actually kind of necessary. The NYC was dressed with a generous portion of lox (salmon hanging out every end of the bagel), a generous portion of cream cheese, slices of Roma tomatoes (the perfect sandwich tomato), and some red onion. It was pretty dang tasty, and I appreciated that the bagel was wrapped so that the "everything" on my bagel was tongue-facing for maximum flavornacity. Not what I would expect, but definitely well-thought out. Before I left, I grabbed a dozen for my wife's work friends, including some cinnamon raisin, French toast, asiago, and MAPLE BOURBON bagels. The jury's still out on that bunch, but their eyes sure got big when I brought that bag in. read more

I stopped in for lunch and got a tuna melt on the asiago bagel. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the tuna was even homemade...and very different tasting (in a really good way). I've been here before when there was a long wait, but today wasn't bad at all. I think it completely depends on the day, time, and UK's schedule. I love Great Bagel. The bagels are so fresh and the ingredients are great quality. I love their lattes, too- perfect, not too sweet. I also love the atmosphere. I'm a mom of an 11 month old and pregnant and I dislike when a place feels too college-y. This is a great, super low key place I can take my [well behaved] daughter when I want to get out of the house for a relaxing breakfast and be left alone. They have plenty of high chairs, too. We love this place. Tremendous variety of fresh, authentic, NY style bagels and fillings, especially the NYC. And their staff is always warm and welcoming. Today we drove by near closing time and couldn't resist stopping in for a late lunch. They were out of bagels for the day! -- Not surprising considering their popularity. But we made a great discovery - they have wonderful salads. It's unusual that I can find a place that does their coffee AND their food well. Great Bagel does both extremely well, and has a great vibe, and friendly & efficient staff. Stopped in for breakfast recently to find a line of about 12 people ahead of me. Little did I know that the line would move in such a way that I found myself to the counter and ready to order in about 2 minutes. The staff was extremely friendly and took my order with a smile. My coffee was hot, strong, and tasty, and my bagel sandwich was perfectly done, and cooked to order. We found a table for two near the window and was able to enjoy our breakfasts and people watch at the same time. I'll be back! read more

True story: I had a dream about bagels and I woke at 3am Sunday, searched yelp for a place to get some. I guess I'm weird like that but stop judging me. To be perfectly honest I selected this place (the great bagels) because I was curious to see how many bagels are on each stick. However I got way than bargain for. I ordered a sausage, egg and cheese on a cinnamon raisin bagel. The bagel was just like I've had a the cafe on 24 & Lexington in Manhattan. Boiled is the only way to do this type of bread. The bagel was very dense and chewy just like I love. The sweet raisins and the sprinkle of sugar crystals complimented the pork and eggs nicely. I also ordered 2 plain bagels for wife and daughter. My daughter can be very over dramatic but based on her reaction if she was writing this she would give it five stars. My wife on the other hand is very picky and she loved the bagels. If I had I a complaint it would be the strawberry cream cheese spread. It seemed like they used unripe strawberry's. Other than that this place will be my Sunday am hang out. read more
