This place is stupid good. This is the best bakery I have ever been to. There are so many top of the line foods, everything is tasty and baked fresh. My favorite items include the brownies, all of the pie flavours, the sourdough bread, and the soups. I found this place to be tastier than the schatt's bakery shop. Wow!! So yummy, met up with a local there who said this is the place to go. And she was right! I had the Spinach, Artichoke and Feta Croissant...... No joke it was the best croissant I've ever had. Warm, soft and deeeeeeelish. Such a cute place, mom and pop vibe and great to support the locals. I suggest this place to anyone passing thru. Stopped in here on our way through town. Picked up some sandwiches and cookies, I was so glad we did! We usually pick up fast food on our way through town, never will we do that again! This bakery is a hidden gem, all the locals were dipping in here while we were there. It is sort of on a side street and a bit hidden. When we come through we are towing a trailer so my husband pulled in the Arco across the street to gas up and the kids and I walked over to the bakery, it was perfect! We got to stretch our legs and get some good food! We had a breakfast croissant, BLAT, and turkey and Swiss on sourdough. The bread was amazing! Next time I will be getting a loaf to go! read more

WHERE THE LOCALS GO!!! GBB is my favorite place for breakfast and sweets. I love their roasted garlic cream cheese; it's full of garlic cloves for all of you garlic-oholics like me. I like to go in for a bagel for breakfast and pick up a few cookies for the afternoon. Regular chocolate chip and vegan chocolate chip cookies are my faves. Pick up a basin bar! Full of oats and seeds and other goodies. Now they serve sandwiches! You will notice several ribbons they've won for their goodies from our tri-county fair. I saw the great Yelp reviews and decided to check this place out. I usually head to Schat's when I'm in town, but I'm always looking for places that the locals go. Based on the reviews, I picked up a chocolate chip scone, a bag of cowgirl cookies ($4.99), and a rosemary shortbread cookie. Sadly, I was not wowed by the scone or the cookie. Though tasy and interesting (the cookie), I did not find these items to be spectacular or mind-blowing. What I did like about the scone was that it was more cookie like, not that crumbly, and certainly not dry like some other scones (texture was kind of similar to the rosemary shortbread cookie). I did end up liking the cowgirl cookies very much though. They are chock full of apricots and walnuts and delicious. I will return next time just to buy these cookies. read more

So I've been meaning to write a review since my last visit. ( Labor Day Weekend) So I was referred to this bakey from TB's sister. She actually yelped Schatz and stumbled upon GBB. So as you pull up to the bakery, its definitely a hole in the wall shop. Its not on the main street driving through Bishop so its definitely easy to miss. When you first walk it, you immediately notice the yummy baked breads to the right. I don't even think I made it to the bakery case before I picked up the fresh baked sourdough. They carry different flavors of sourdough loafs including Asiago and Roasted Garlic. I haven't tried the Asiago but the Roasted Garlic is to die for. We've also tried the freshly made sandwiches. Nothing to extraodinary except they use their fresh baked breads. Cookies...you definitely gotta try. We bought the variety pack which incudes chocolate chip, lemon, cowgirl, etc. I've heard the coffee is good but haven't tried it out yet. Service has always been decent when we come in. I've noticed they are open during the holidays (Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, etc) so that is definitely a plus since we only come during the holidays. Now I'm craving the Garlic Sourdough...maybe I can call them and they can ship me some :) read more

This bakery is truly as good as it gets! Every time I have the opportunity to head up 395 to Bishop the Great Basin Bakery is a must do. I like it even better as it is kinda obscure, off the main drag. Yesterday my husband and I stopped on our way home. Picked up a loaf of french bread and a special treat for me . . . . . a loaf of Pumpkin Walnut Bread. There were many other temptations I assure you. I wish it was located closer to where we live. I'm a traveling nurse and was introduced to this café by a coworker. Was told they had good soups. After one taste I have fallen in love with the soups they have! They also have homemade pastries and breads. On most days you have to order your soup before 2 because they usually run out. The owners are very friendly and welcoming. Good in it's own right even without the other-bakery-in-town tension. Not cheap, but probably the only place to find a vegan baked good in Bizhop and good goods to boot. Together with Black Sheep, Great Basin presents an exceptional alternative to Starbucks/Shatz. My light at the end of any long Sierra descent when carbohydrates are excusable. Two perhaps deliberate shortcomings come to mind: lack of electrical outlets and inconspicuous signage. Obviously the independent bakery can't have a billboard on Main St., but it's easy to miss if you're not looking hard. A local turned me on to it, I would have started going much sooner had I noticed it earlier. But again, maybe that's the point. Rosemary cookies are superb. read more
