So last September I went in for a due oil change and Audra did a thorough check ("The 8ight Essentials Checklist" which i love and highly recommend) which the car hadn't had in ages and understandably, there were some issues that needed to be addressed. But here's what I feel is the difference between Audra and perhaps other places. Together, all the charges would have been a significant bill (but a fair one indeed) as it would be at any other place, but I'm sure other places would have said with high pressure it all needed to be done right now, but with Audra and her team, it was just suggested work, and with their advice we triaged what was needed when. So over three month, everything got done (at the start of a each credit card cycle which made it easier to pay) Faster than expected for they had even said, change the battery before the cold weather (so understandable) and the other stuff can wait until the New Year. And of course, their work is excellent, so quality is never an issue. That's why i appreciate Audra and her team. Plus I got to visit three times and met various folks in the auto industry that drop by and heard their stories or chatted with Audra as her star shines brighter. How great was that! Want to caveat by saying the folks at the shop are nice and pleasant to deal with. I came here in the past for an oil change, brake pad/rotor replacement and headlight replacement for an older car and received above average service. I received post-service follow-ups to check how the vehicle was running, which is a nice customer service touch. However, this is where the 'BUT' comes in. During the week following Christmas, I brought in another vehicle ('19 Honda Pilot) that reeked of gasoline both inside the cabin and when parked after being driven. I came without an appointment, but was told they could take a look before the end of the day. Later that day, I get a call from the shop saying they won't have time to look at the car, but could devote time later that week to check. I was okay with that and went back to grab the car, but had to pay a $50 fee. For the circumstances and wanting a professional to make sure I didn't have a bigger problem, I willingly paid the fee. The following day, I came back and the shop ran a diagnostic. 2 hours of labor resulted in finding no issues when the car, but it was recommended to change out the engine/cabin filters and fill up with premium gas (for a Honda) as a possibly remedy for the problem. Total fee for all of this - $400+. Yet over the next two weeks of driving, the problem still lingered. Wanting a second opinion, I gave in and decided to take vehicle to a nearby Honda dealership. They did their thing and found the problem - a leaking fuel injector - which somehow Great Bear missed in their diagnostic. The Honda dealership fixed the issue and no more gas smell since. Money spent aside, my biggest frustration is Great Bear failed to identify the leaking fuel injector during their diagnostic. The printed invoice even implies they were looking at the same thing as the Honda dealership yet found nothing wrong: "Intake needs to be removed to check up the fuel injectors 2hr LABOR. Can't not be sure without taking off intake to check. No leak on the bottom..." "Open the upper and lower intake manifold.... No gasoline leak; but it need something else..." In the post-service follow-up, the shop reached out asking how's the car? I told them how the problem continued after visiting them and I took it somewhere else to get it fixed. I asked if we could chat to discuss the situation and haven't heard back since. I would like to give Great Bear the benefit of the doubt given my previous positive experience with them, but this recent visit really makes me second guess if I want to bring my cars in for any future work. read more

Update to my detailed review from 2 years ago where I noted they, when replacing my tires, they fitted the new tires with USED valve stems. 2 of the valve stems have now failed. Will have them replaced somewhere else. On a different note, the owner is now a host on Motorweek. I liked the program but will no longer watch this show. read more

Brought my '03 Civic to this shop for an inspection. Front desk was very helpful and informative about the cost for my inspection. They said I needed my brake pads and oil changed. They explained how the thickness left on my pads weren't going to be an issue but I should still change them since I wasn't going to be back until I need another oil change. I left my car there for the day and they called me back and said how my car had an A/C issue and it wasn't producing any cold air. I hadn't noticed this issue as I haven't been using the A/C at all due to the cold weather. They were very fast with everything as this only took a couple of days even though I saw many other people there. John, the person who helped me throughout the entire process was very friendly and informative as he gave me a very fair price in my opinion as well as he explained what he was changing me for. Took my car to have the struts replaced in 2020. $2000+ for the front pair. Did not feel any difference. They used the cheapest parts available in the market. Recently took another car for emission cleaning for improve gas mileage, no difference at all again. $300+ Also asked for an estimate to replace an ac condenser, their estimate was $1600+. Took it to my regular mechanic on college point, Dan's Auto. They fixed for $500 even. Will never go back or recommend Great Bear again. 10 thumbs down if I have that many. read more

Bunch of scammers. Was quoted one price one day and was told they had the parts to complete the job asap. Dropped off my car to get it fixed, all of a sudden was told that the job was now $500 above the quoted price and they didn't have the part at the shop. Icing on the cake: when I went to pick up my car, I was told my car probably didn't need one of the services it received bc it didn't make a difference and was charged for it. Wonderful service from Great Bear Auto today! (04/14/23) I have been coming here for routine oil changes for about a year now and have always felt very comfortable with the staff and workers! Everything is always explained in through detail with kindness and patience! I had a check engine light come on suddenly and called the next morning and was being seen in the next hour, they did a through check of my vehicle (What is referred to as THE EIGHT ESSENTIALS CHECKLIST) which was able to check certain fluids and such to make sure everything was in working and operating order! Having a physical booklet of what was done/checked with your car certainly offers peace of mind and organization that other shops just don't provide! Very happy and satisfied with my service today, will be returning for my regular oil change soon! read more

4.5 stars! I came here last year for my first maintenance when my baby car hit 5k miles and left super satisfied with the pricing and service. I called this morning to see if they had room for my 10k mileage maintenance and they told me I could swing by. Drop off was quick and easy as usual. The staff seems to know what they're doing and have good pricing compared to other auto shops nearby. I personally don't know much about cars, and find that they don't really explain things unless I ask for more details (which I did and got informative answers). So don't be afraid to ask! I'm always skeptical coming to car shops because I'm scared of getting scammed! But I feel like Great bear has been transparent with me, so I'll continue going there. read more

I have a 2019 Nissan Altima and long story short I had to replace a both fender liners, lower oil pan, and a splash guard. I was so impressed with this place! They quoted me $739 for all the pieces and labor on 3/18/2021 @ 9am, received the parts 3/19/2021 around 3pm and my car was fixed on 3/20/2021 by 10:30am. I would highly suggest shopping around for prices as they highly over charge. On top of that they did not even finish the job with my vehicle. I ended up having to go somewhere else to complete my inspection. Why do I as the customer have to do all the research only to find out they have been misleading me because it would be a hassle on their part. Honestly considering legal action at this point.
