I recently needed to renew my inspection and my pops suggested Prela in Bayside, as they are his go-to trusty mechanic. I drove to Queens and dropped my car off, then hung out at my parents house for a couple hours til it was ready. It was only about $27 or so. I love that they didn't try to upsell me on anything other than what I came for. You can tell they are straight-shooters here. Don't trust a single thing these people say. Read the reviews about their dishonesty & incompetence! 1) I was not refused service by the Mercedes dealer. Dealer asked me to trade in the vehicle instead due to potentially costly repairs (vehicle shortage maybe?). I said I'd rather repair it as it's hard to find a car I want right now. Diagnostics alone would've been around $400, and power seats could run thousands. This is why I even bothered going to Prela. There was no issue at the dealer. It was a non-event but Prela needed an excuse for their lack of customer service. 2) Please listen to the reviewers when they say Prela is dishonest. There were a total of 3 items wrong with the car. Prela told me I had rusted out brakes/brake discs which was not true at all (I have the service comments from the dealer to confirm this & anyone who wants to see can msg me). Prela told me I needed to fix the brakes/discs, selling me bogus services for $$$$. 3) Prela told me they were going to charge me to look into my issues, and didn't only because THEY refused to fix my car. They also refused to look into what was wrong with the power seats. 4) I really wanted an estimate to fix the power seats along with the other issues and when I asked them 2x to pls look into it because they kept refusing to, the mechanic lost it - he verbatim told me what I wrote in the first review and said "I don't want to deal with your car, come get it now". If there were as many things wrong with the car (as he described), it wouldn't have been safe to drive. Especially the rusted out brakes but they didn't care... or maybe the issues weren't as bad as they made it out to seem? The car inspection wasn't due until the end of May and my goal wasn't to just put a bandaid on the issues just to pass inspection. Good to know that's what Prela's agenda is though. Lastly, there were 3 items wrong with the car, not one were the brakes/disc nor catalytic converter, nor tires, nor timing chain problems (scam artists at Prela as you can see). And if Prela were competent, they would've noticed the non-working seats were due to a loose wire that my mechanic did not charge me to fix. Lol. Please please don't bother with these clowns. read more

Update. After years of satisfaction with this place, I am sorry to report that Prela is now operated by corrupt, incompetent thieves. No check engine light when I dropped it off, but I had an error code when I picked it up. AA mechanic confirmed that the manager had lied about what work was done and not done--and manager told him in Spanish to shut up and stop talking to me. Also, they broke my hood sensor and remote start and didn't even offer to repair it. That's the gist of it--you've been warned. read more

This place deserves NO stars. The worker whose name I wish got was extremely rude. I simply went there to get pictures of the body of the car for insurance purposes. This was something I had done before and I pretty familiar with the procedure. I even spoke to the insurance company that sent me an email of the process. The place only needed to take pictures and upload it to the insurance company with all the car information. This guy is asking for my car keys. I asked him why isn't he supposed to take pictures. He got offended because I was asking questions and told me I had an attitude which I did not. I tried to show him the email from the insurance company he didn't want to listen. He told me I could leave. Which I did. And as I was leaving he told me that I wouldn't find any one to do the job he didn't want to do. We'll I found a place and they were FANTASTIC. First off, I was really grateful that they agreed to do a wheel alignment for me when I drove in. They were packed and an hour from closing. The issue was how reckless they drive their customers cars and their own cars in the lot. I even saw one of the workers smoking and entered a car to move it. I believe it was the owner that drove our car and scraped the rear tires on their curb. Almost missed the track for the lift in the rear tires. I was really worried that the car was going to drop. No apology whatsoever. It was great that they were able to help us with the car on such short notice, but the recklessness and care for everyones cars turned me off. It might have been because they were close to closing time, but shouldnt be a reason. Unless you have a functioning knowledge of the inner workings of your vehicle, you're at their mercy. Please believe all the recent reviews. I took my car here for years when Tony was in charge. Reliable great and fair service. That has changed. I took my car here for what should have been an easy repair. Not only did they overcharge me for the service, I was given an estimate of $500 and when I got to the shop I had a bill for $800. No one had called to inquire if that increase would be something I could manage. When I expressed dissatisfaction they knocked it down to $700. I paid the bill thinking the car was repaired. My car persisted to have the same issue and brought it back two times after that. They were never able to resolve it. Took it to another shop and was told they covered the problem in silicone, which was like slapping a bandaid on the problem and had to pay another $600 to have the work redone. During this process I finally looked at the original itemized receipt from the first date of service and found that their math was incorrect on their own receipt and I never checked. The total should have been $500! Tried to dispute it with my credit card company and Bc the original service date was too long ago they wouldn't issue me a credit and I have no recourse. These guys either don't know what they are doing or are counting on ppl not being knowledgeable (and shame on me for not checking the total on their math) buyer beware! read more

Completely careless and unprofessional. I took my immaculate year old Mazda lease for a simple inspection sticker change. The careless unprofessional old man scraped the upholstery up with the razor while removing the old sticker. He proceeded to stain the upholstery with his greasy dirty hands making it worse. The shop blamed me and my sister for "rushing them" and not getting out of the car when they told us we didn't need to when we offered and we never said we were in a rush when we weren't. A few things about this place. I went in for the first time for an oil change and for them to check out a sound under my car. I handed over my keys and tried to explain what I was hearing for 2 different people including the guy doing my oil change. Neither of them even listened to what I had to say. The sound is still there with no explanation from either of them. Then once my work was complete no one told me and I sat in the waiting room for an extra 30 minutes. Numerous times I could hear the manager speaking disparagingly about individuals belonging to a different political affiliation than he. Just needed my oil changed, didn't want anything political.
