This is my first time ever at pep boys and it was a great experience. I called previous to arrival to see if there was a wait to mount a tire. Was told it would take 30mins to 1 hour When I got there, I was greeted by Tae (super nice and friendly guy) who told me that it would take around 30-60 min. Maybe even 1.5hour and gave me the price up front. It was reasonable unlike another place that wanted to charge me 49 to mount/balance a tire Waiting room had comfy chairs. Didn't make a big deal about it. Made an appointment for an oil change. Brought the car, they told me they couldn't accept my car for an oil change cause they are busy. In the meantime you see two techs sitting around in their phone. Why take the appointments if you can't honor it? My times too valuable for this. Go to Valvoline oil change on northern. I had a Kafka-esque, surreal experience at the Pep Boys in Bayside NY (204-11 Northern Blvd, 11361) on April 18 2026. My bottom line is that it's OK for people to go there for tires or a battery but not anything else, thank you. Here's the back story: I had been at this Pep Boys twice before with no problem - once for tires and once for spark plugs. I have a 2011 Honda Pilot. On April 18 I made an appointment for two oil leaks, the "VTEC Solenoid" and valve cover gasket. Showed up at 9 a.m. as planned to drop off the car. Talked to the guy up front, explained that I was there for two oil leak repairs. He ordered the parts on the phone. Said it would be a five hour job once they get the parts. Not a cheap job - well over $1,000. He said car would probably be ready mid-afternoon. I said I'm not staying and will come back. Here's where things started to go weird. About a half out later I get an email from Pep Boys stating "Let's Reschedule Your Appointment." I thought 'That's strange' but didn't worry about it. And, went home. Around 1pm I thought it would be a good idea to go back to Pep Boys. When I got there around 1:30 sat down in the waiting room. The same manager who I talked to in the morning is running back and forth from the garage to the front desk. We make eye contact. Around 3 pm I'm thinking what's up with the car. I look in the work area and my car is not there. Maybe it's finished I think. I circle around the building, however, and my car is still parked in the same spot outside where I left it in the morning. Curious, I go inside and speak to the same manager again. I ask what's up with the car? He says they are still waiting for one part. Wow. They never called me on my cell to inform me there was a delay in getting a part. He never said a word when spotting me in the waiting room. It's now almost 3pm and even if they get the part, if it's really a five hour job, there's no way it's going to get done that day. He must realize that too but says nothing. Now the place was very busy doing tires and whatever else. I can understand juggling things can be difficult. Maybe they were so busy they didn't have time to handle the oil leak job. If that's the case, just tell me in the morning or at some point. But not to say anything is really rude and unprofessional. I basically wasted my whole day and left with two oil leaks unrepaired (one near the alternator which was the bigger problem). Did I yet at the manager? No. I felt sorry for him. I've just had the worst experience ever today at Pepboys 231 East Sunrise Highway Lindenhurst NY 11757. There's an Indian guy working there as Manager that's one of the most disrespectful person I've ever met. Brought in my own oil filter and own Cabin Filter. Open arrival I told the young lady at the desk that I really just wanted the oil with filter Change and would skip the Cabin filter. It explained to her it takes me less than 10 minutes to replace it on my own but by chance how much it would cost if they did it in shop she said about $20 with my own filter . I agreed to have both the oil change and the filter replaced and gave Pepboys my own oil filter cartridge and my own Cabin Filter Cartridge. I had been waiting awhile and so decided to pop my ear buds in and listen to an audible book while I wait. Things went a bit South when I decided to stretch my legs and popped outside I stated pacing back and forth while I listened to my book then suddenly I saw my car by the outside of the Pepboys shop outside of the bay in the yard with the passenger side door open. I kept pacing listening to my book however from the distance I could see the person a bit frazzled facial expressions and actions so I decided to walk over to my car. The mechanic Joshua R had the glove box open searching around in it . I asked him what's the issue he said he had been looking for the cabin Filter opening . I was able to show Joshua the side panel opening on the left side lower foot side panel . He proceeded to remove the panel and I had to tell him that for best results please remove my floor mats this way he won't run the risk of forcibly damaging the pins that secures the panel. He did as I asked and I showed him where the old filter is secured and the replacement was done with my new filter. During this process Joshua R spoke of not buying my parts from Nissan especially the filter as what they do is use a no name brand and rebrand under Nissan's label. I didn't think it was any of his business where I got my parts and felt that his job was more to know the installation processes to make a more seem-less visit . He complained about taking a while on my repair(s) blamed the bay(s) being full . One of the lifts not functioning properly and gave other. frivolous reasons as to why the work was not done in a timely manner . My total bill was $92.42 cents Joshua's labor charge was $51.44. The rest of the bill was for the oil . When I was cashing out I felt robbed Nissan's special pricing for today was 59.95 for the oil change when I mentioned the experience and the Nissan's price . The manager after taking my credit card proceeded to tell me to get out of their establishment. Don't get me wrong folks I've been a good customer of Pepboys for years and you'll find good people at this very location Manager Juan great guy. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER. I brought my 11-year-old Fiat 500 into the Woodside location for an alignment. After the repair was finished and I drove the car home which is about 20 minutes away. I discovered that they had completely snapped off the side arm rest of the driver side. They threw all the pieces in the backseat and never mentioned the damage. When I sent the manager photos immediately after I discovered it, which was only about 40 minutes since I left his facility, he replied with "hey i got the pics are you able to bring the vehicle in so that we may try to repair this for you?" To me, that's admitting culpability. When I refuse to let them do the repair, considering the age of the car and how extensive the damage was, I referred to a PD claims processor, who asked me to get two quotes to fix the damage. I was only able to gather one considering the age of the car and the extensive damage. It's going to be a very expensive repair. I have now been forced to pay for an attorney to get them to fix something they broke. As the manager of the Woodside location indicated to me, they have CCTV so they do know that the damage was done by them, but they're going to force me to pay thousands of dollars to get them to admit what they already know they did. I will escalate this to the attorney general in New York State, but this is a horrible experience and I will never go back beware of Pep Boys and damage to your car that they will not acknowledge. read more

Previously they checked my tires that I had some doubt on and said they're all good and didn't charge me. On a recent occasion they found that one tire was slowly leaking air as I suspected and they put a seal on it; the tire is working perfectly so far after a few weeks and two long distance drives. read more

Dropped my car off to get the timing chain fixed. Initial quoted price was $1500, that ballooned up to $2000. Had no choice I obviously need my vehicle to make a living. Car was in the shop from 10/5-10/9 Picked up my car 10/9 drove it home. Next morning went out to start my car to go to work and it won't start.. smh What's going on here?! I most certainly did not bring the car in for any other issues besides the timing chain. Car must and should be fixed with no cost to customer immediately is the only way to rectify the situation. Went to Merrick Blvd Queens Pep Boys for an oil change. While there they suggested I change my filters which I agreed to. They asked if I wanted my fluids topped off for an extra $2. I said yes. They did the work, I paid, and left. About a month later I needed to clear my windshield. Tried to use washer fluid and nothing came out. Lifted the hood and low and behold there was no washer fluid. None. The reservoir was completely empty. I thought to myself if they didn't top off my fluids, what else did they not do. How do I know I have new filters? Never went back. A year later I went to Pep Boys on Jamaica Ave in Queens Village for an inspection and to get my A/C fixed (It wouldn't come on). They charged me for 3 hours worth of labor but called me in an hour saying the work was done. Paid, went home blasting the A/C all the way. So happy it was working. Four weeks later A/C blowing warm air. I can tell it's on in the car but it doesn't get cold like A/C should. I'll never go to a Pep Boys again. None of these companies are worth a damn. Only went for an oil change and suddenly my brake stopped working, the brake light came on and the guy (Tae) has the audacity to tell me it was ok to drive. How dare you? I had to get new tires for preparation for the upcoming winter, I guess I came in at a good time, there was a promotion where if you buy 3 tires the 4th was free. I took advantage of the sale, what I didn't like about this place is they aren't reliable, I was really upset even when I made an appointment and confirmed inventory availability. I drove my car over they told me they will get start right away, two hours later they called me and said they couldn't find the tires, they claim they only had two in the back and it was a system error, I wasted such a day. The guy in the front who tried to help me said he will try to ship pieces from other store inventory and it will get there next week, fine! I wanted to give it another shot, so I made the second appointment with them, a week later I bring in my car and gave them the keys, thinking this times all good, but No ! The guy calls me and said we have three tires and can't find the fourth. SMH, I didn't want to waste the day so I had them put change three of my tires, and I'll be back and pick up the fourth, I end up paying $920 for all four of them, but came back and forth three times to get this service tire alignment done. I am adding an addendum to my last review. The part for my car was finally ordered and installled after a month's delay and over $1500 in replacing other parts on three separate occasions. I left and the ac worked a lil bit quickly stopped working. I called them and went back today with an appointment. ​​After 2 hrs they told me the AC tech refused to look at my car because he did not do the previous work on it. The manager was consulted and said he couldn't make him look at my car. This was the last straw. I left and now I'm out over $1500​ and my ac still doesn't work. Now I have to take it to REAL mechanic who can fix it. These people are useless and don't help the customer. They just took my money and never fixed my AC. DONT EVER GO HERE!!!! I had to get my tire changed and pep boys offered reasonable pricing on tires and tire installation. I scheduled an appointment the night before. I came in earlier and dropped my car off with Andre. I left my car with them and they said they will give me a call when it is ready. I received a text with a URL link showing the status of the service. Within 40minutes, I received a text saying my car was ready for pick up. Andre was personable and knew my name and which car I brought over. I was in and out in 5 minutes. read more

Extremely dissapointed at the work demeanor by the technicians at this location. I called last friday, i explained to them that this battery was purchased 2 yrs ago at this very location. A year after purchase, battery was not charging correctly. Took it in for an exchange and another battery was given to me on Jan 2017. Now same issue battery is not charging and i was told to just bring it in. When i got there on friday last week, tech stated that it may not be the battery. That it could be the alternator. How? I would prefer to not give any stars for the treatment I received let alone the lack of coordination and communication. I made an appointment for an oil and filter change online weeks in advance due to understanding supply chain issues. I arrived at this location first entering through the service garage on the east entrance. I got out of the car and approached the empty booth for a few minutes as I waited. A few engineers looked up and saw me and continued to work forcing me to think I am to park and enter in the front, so i did so. Upon parking my car feeding the meter I entered only to be ignored by two employees behind the counter whom where off the clock or soon to be as they did not have their "Pep Boys" shirt or name tag on. I again waited for a few minutes until one of them approached me asking if he can help. I handed him my appointment paper work and before I could mention anything he said "go around back" referring to where i just came from. I asked "Can you please confirm that there is someone there? I just came from there and no one approached me". He repeated "go around back in a negative tone" I then asked for a manager because he was being a jerk. He replied "oh really? Well you aren't getting service today" and proceeded to go to the back to deny my service to the team there. The very request I asked for he did only to deny service. After a minute he returned and ignored me. Another representative came out and said reluctantly that he unfortunately can no fulfill my service request because they don't have those parts. This place is simply a rip off. Came in on a Sunday to get battery replaced. Left phone number and email. Online tracking system shows no change in 4 days. They don't answer phone calls either. Showed up 3 times to ask for progress. Was told that a worker is not back until Sunday so it won't be worked on until then. Takes a week and a half to finally get car back. Charged 1.4K for diagnosis and battery replacement. A week later my engine is overheating and coolant is leaking? What diagnosis did you guys do to miss that? I had an appointment for a simple tire rotation. After waiting 20 mins (stalls were full so everyone had to reverse to let people out) I got to the front, and was told to go park my car. So I had to reverse out through the line too. Tell me why someone couldn't come out and tell us that in that time. Worst service ever! I took my car in for engine leaks 2 months ago. It ran perfectly fine. They did my inspection a couple days prior. It passed.Not only did they not let me know when they were going to work on my car to authorize the work (as they said) but after waitng for so long, they messed up my transmission so now it doesn't drive or work in 2nd gear. I now have to rebuild my transmission after spending $1732. I don't trust any of the mechanics at Pep Boys or any of their affiliates. They destroyed my transmission and should pay for it. Period. I procrastinated and waited untill almost the last day to renew my inspection. I went in the morning before it open to wait in line hoping to get my car serviced but no luck. They advised that I would have to wait over an hour since they had scheduled appointments. I couldn't wait so so I turned around and went home. When I got home I went on the Pep Boys website and you can book appointments online! So few clicks later I had appointment for noon the same day to have my car inspected. I arrived 5 minutes before my appointment and when I pulled up they knew exactly who I was and what I was going there for! Thatvwas very nice. I asked the guy how long he thinks it will be and he said about 40 minutes. I took a walk on Northern Boulevard so about 30 minutes and came back to the waiting room. 10 minutes later they advised my car was done. After paying my bill the service guy backed up my car and even held the door for me to get in. Service here is great...better than my Acura dealer! I hate doing this but I was so frustrated with this place. After getting tires installed, the tire light was on so we went there to see if they needed to get recalibrated. They wanted to charge us $15 just to run some diagnostics! It wasn't about the money, it was just the pure principle. Tires were installed by them, shouldn't they have been perfect?? It took over 2.5 hours to get an oil change done with an appointment. They didn't even have a parking spot for their customers. When I tried to pull into their service garage, it was blocked by cones and their employee yelled at me for trying to park next to their garage to check in. If I didn't make an appointment, I would have just drove off to another service shop. Maybe I should have done that. I've been to many Pep Boys in my life but this was one of the most unpleasant oil change experiences I had in awhile. Avoid this location unless you got 2.5 hours of spare time for an oil change. I tried to return a car cover at Pepboys location at 20411 Northern Blvd, Queens, NY 11361 I don't understand why they won't honor the policy on there website. https://www.pepboys.com/customer-care/policies Returns with No Receipt No receipt, no problem. If you do not have your receipt, you may return your purchase for an in-store credit at our lowest selling price during the previous 30 days. You will need to provide a valid form of government issued, photo identification to return an item without a receipt. This exert is straight from there website. There are some limitations but a car cover isn't in there. Would not recommend. read more

Went there to replace my SUV battery which was on sale. They didn't bother to tighten down the battery. It was free flowing under the hood. Granted there were rust on the securing bolts. It took me one spray of wd40 and then I was able to tighten the bolts that secure the battery. It's a small thing but I expect these guys should be professional. read more
