Great China is a decent Chinese restaurant with decent prices and nice decor. I don't go there very often though, because there are better Chinese places nearby. The staff is friendly and competent. read more

Very Very Disappointed. I cannot even rate Great China with any stars, but had to at least give it one star to be able to post this review. I had dined at Great China approximately 8 years ago. Maybe under new ownership then as the food was good, but still no excuse. The Happy Family meal had chicken, minimal shrimp, fake crab and no lobster or scallops. The Sweet & Sour Pork was very over cooked, very crunchy and very tough. The General Tso Chicken had thick tasteless sauce over the overly breaded chicken. I informed the waitress regarding the tasteless General Tso Chicken. I was provided with hot pepper oil??? to put over the chicken. This just made it hot tasteless chicken. The waitress did return and asked how it tasted after adding the pepper oil. She was informed that it did not taste any better. Her response was "Sorry" and walked away. She returned with the bill - $43.99. I really expected that the waitress would remove my meal, as I didn't eat it. When I went to the counter to pay for the meals I was asked how I liked the dinners. Initially I did not answer, but I knew that I was not ever going to dine there again, I told the elderly man behind the counter that the meal was terrible. He stated "sorry"........... I paid the bill and will never dine there again. I have never written a review but this experience was so bad that I thought it needed to be done to help save the next poor sucker that thinks about dining at Great China in Brighton, MI . I usually really like this restaurant. I normally get carry out and the food tastes good. However the service I received recently was very poor. I made my order over the phone and the first thing I ordered was Vegi Egg Foo Yung, I made the rest of my order and at the end the order was not read back to me and I was not told the price. When i went to pick the order I was given a bag and the lady at the counter ran my card. I went home happily thinking everything was in order as it normally is when I order from Great China. After driving all the way home I realized that the Egg Foo Yung was not in the bag so i drove all the way back to the restaurant thinking that they must of just forgotten to give me the bag with that item in it. When I arrived back at the restaurant I stood at the counter for 5 minutes while the lady ignored me behind the count. I got her attention to let her know that there must have been a mix-up because my Egg Foo Yung was not in my bag. She told me that I didn't order Egg Fu Yung (It definitely was the very first thing I ordered, my family listened to me make the order and confirmed this to be true) and the error would not be corrected. Generally I receive excellent food from Great China. That's why I keep going back. But If the service I receive continues in this trend I will have to find another place to get takeout. read more

Undercooked chicken, two kinds of onions and soggy crinkle cut french fries was served as Curry Chicken! Will NEVER go back there.

The worst Chinese food I ever tasted used to be a good restaurant but recently the food has been terrible, service was a joke server made excuses for bad tea than served me out of same cup with the same terrible tea. My wife ordered the only dish she trust Almond Chicken, chicken has old hard and had no flavor at all, egg rolls where overlooked, no rolls had be offered and even my cup of soup was barley half full. I had ordered Beef Chow Mien with soft rice noodles which came to cold in a ball not loose and hot, beef was rubbery and had NO flavor at all. Server seemed preoccupied and never asked my wife for a refill on her diet Coke and the famous Almond cookies tasted stale and fresh like we remembered. Back about 6 months ago we had a pretty nice dinner here and been coming here for over 18 years, that night the owner was cooking and was a completely different experience. I had such high hopes. When I came in, I had to wake up the waiter, who was snoring and appeared to be sniffling and sick- that should have been my warning- if you are the only customer, it's a roll of the dice what you'll get. I specifically asked them to leave out the MSG, as I'm allergic. They didn't, and although I only was inclined to take a few bites of my extremely mediocre cashew chicken, I still felt the effect (I get sick). The cashew chicken had huge slabs of chicken, some still with the rubbery parts on them, as if the cook hadn't gone to the trouble to do much- same with the vegetables. The egg roll was hard and overcooked (as if it had been sitting under a lamp?) and filled with what appeared to be canned cabbage and nothing else, although I didn't eat much of it, either. The tea was completely tasteless- which is actually pretty hard to do. I told the waiter, and also the lady who appeared to be the manager about the MSG in the food, and how I was going to be sick from it, also how the dish was not very good. They were polite and took the dishes away. I asked for some steamed rice to take home- the only thing that was good, really. They neither offered a concession on the price, nor offered the rice, and the meal (of which I only took about 4 bites, and ate the soup) cost me $15. Terrible deal, distasteful experience.
