I'm from the Detroit area and we used to have some good Chinese Restaurants there. I'm always finicky about Chinese. I tried one place in the area and hated it so I went in to Honto with no expectations. My first disappointment is that they were out of noodles for the Pad Thai. I'm not sure how that happens, but it did. My only other disappointment was the fried rice. It had little flavor to it. It tasted like white rice with a little bit of soy sauce. I'm referring to the rice that came with my meal. If I ordered the meal, maybe it better. I got the almond boneless chicken with hot and sour soup. I freaking love their hot and sour soup. You get a nice sized cup with your meal and it is so good. They also give you the fried wonton slices to put in it. The almond chicken was good. I prefer less gravy, but it wasn't so much that it ruined the meal. It was two breasts deep fried to perfection. In addition to my meal we got some fried dumplings. They were different than others I've had, but very tasty! When I go back I'll probably just order those and soup! read more

First off do not call fried rice if it's not "fried" just doused with soy sauce. Egg rolls with large wrappers never truly get cooked through. Hot and sour soup was not HOT. The Mongolian beef was the best. Quality meat but way more veg than meat. We will not be returning. read more

I've been to a lot of Chinese restaurants serving American Chinese foods, and I am 99% certain that Honto makes the best General Tso's Chicken. Their other dishes are also great, e.g. Mongolian Beef, Garlic Sauce Chicken, Egg Foo Young, Pepper Steak, etc.) The chef is Cantonese which I think is why these dishes are done differently and better compared to those at the other places I've been to. 10/10 recommend. read more

Today I discovered that Honto is open everyday from 11am to 7 pm but closed on Sundays. After months of trying to get a take out order I got one tonight! My steak low was delicious, it is exactly what I remember from my childhood. I have eaten at other Chinese restaurants but Honto was a huge surprise. My hot and sour soup was savory. The Chinese fried noodles added to the meal. The fried rice had more flavor then other restaurants but my happiest surprise was the egg roll, so tasty in comparison to other places I have enjoyed. The crab Rangoon were cold but hey this is take out, They were still a delight to eat. My wife loved her chicken cashew nut meal and her egg drop soup. Hontos is a nice, small, family run Chinese food place. The soup us good, the prices are very, very low. Food always seems fresh, although the quality is only fair. Best Chinese I've found in all Livingston County. It's take out right now and they get very busy and sometimes don't answer the phone. I just drive there and continue calling. If I don't get through I order when I get there. Good Hot/Sour soup, Wonton soup, shrimp with lobsters sauce and sesame beef are all good meals. read more

Have tried all Chinese restaurants in town and surrounding area. Honto stands above on their main chicken dishes for quality and value. Only improvement would be on rice. Many places in town serve breading and chicken bits that are over cooked. The chicken in their dishes is all white meat and very generous cuts. This place is remarkably good! It is, by far, the best Chinese (even if Americanized) food I've had anywhere around here. It is a quiet little place where you will always see the same one or two people working, so they get to know you very quickly. The egg drop soup is hands down the BEST egg drop soup I have ever had anywhere! The egg rolls are fresh and crisp and delicious! The entrees I've sampled have all been fresh and tasty. The "fried rice" that comes with the combos is the only thing I could complain about. It seems like plain whit rice with a bit of soy sauce. The first time I tried this place, I thought it was really good! My family and I had ordered classic General Tsao's, some Chicken Pad Thai, and Curry Chicken. The General Tsao's was okay, and was pretty standard. The Chicken Pad Thai was quite unique, with a little odd of a taste, but it was pretty yummy. The Curry Chicken was my favorite with crunchy vegetables, delicious yellow curry, moist chicken, and (my favorite) potatoes that melt as you bite down on them. Today, I had ordered Curry Chicken, and the potatoes were not added, like last time. This was the whole reason why I ordered the dish. Also, as it was a take-out order, they put it in a styrofoam container with the lid not stapled. This resulted in, literally, half the sauce leaking out. My husband and I ordered from this place for the first time this weekend. In general our experience was a 3/5 due to the food and also the customer service. We ordered the beef and broccoli and sweet and sour chicken combos with fried rice and egg rolls. The fried rice was pretty boring with regards to flavor and also ingredients. There was not any veggies or meat in the rice which is not what I'm used to. The egg roll was also not the greatest. Finally our order was not ready when it was supposed to be and it was incorrect (additional order of sweet and sour chicken which we received and paid for because we didn't check the bag before we left). Moved closer to Brighton and tried Honto. Can say that the food is very good and the prices are reasonable. The owners are very friendly and strive to take care of you. The Chinese food is ok, but don't order the Tai food if you are a Tai food lover! They have no idea about "heat" system. Every time I order Chicken Pad Tai it's either too hot or no spice at all. I've only had the chicken pad thai, general tsos and crab rangoon but it was enough to make me decide that this was my new favorite chinese place when visiting Brighton! The prices are insanely cheap and the staff is so very nice. This is the best Chinese restaurant in Michigan. The dishes are prepared to perfection, using the freshest ingredients. My favorites include beef or chicken chop suey, made with fresh bean sprouts! One time I visited, they ran out of bean sprouts, so I tried the Steak Kow. I was NOT disappointed as this dish was incredible too, using authentic Chinese vegetables. A lot of Chinese restaurants do not know how to prepare the food and substitute nappa cabbage for bean sprouts and add zuccini, carrots and other cheap ingredients which account for a sloppy, soggy and greasy mess. Honto Rules! Not the greatest decor, but if you want quality Chinese food, prepared fresh, with real Chinese vegetables, seek out Honto! The people are also very friendly. read more
