Chinese food on the east side of town used to be plentiful and pretty high quality however, over the past few years to has gotten more expensive and not as good until we found Great China! Excellent chicken fried rice, egg rolls, hot and sour soup! Quick service for carry out and truly high quality food and an affordable price. They have become one of our Sunday dinner staples. Let me tell you this: I miss Great China. I started eating there when I was 8 years old in 1992. Me and my father ate there at least once a month when we were in the area. I left Ohio in 2000 and since then, I haven't found a Chinese restaurant that matched their quality. The last time I ate there was in 2010 with my wife and my brother. I cried when I got my basic chicken and fried rice. It had BEAN SPROUTS, fresh chicken breast, and fresh celery and carrots that were sliced long ways. NOBODY ELSE DOES THIS. NOBODY. The cheese wontons we're superb. I failed to mention that I didn't use soy sauce on my fried rice because IT DIDN'T NEED ANY. IT WAS PERFECTION. I currently live in the Mecca of Asian food here in the SF Bay Area and there are only 3 restaurants here that are super close to living up to my childhood favorite restaurant. Nationwide, count that...3. So for all the bad reviewers here trashing up my forever food home: You can go stick an egg roll up your arse and enjoy the shite spewing from your mouth from here on out. My current neighborhood is devoid of good Chinese restaurants so anytime I visit my parents on the eastside I crave Great China. This past weekend we picked up our go to order (sweet and sour chicken, vegetable fried rice and egg rolls) and it was everything I remembered. Great China is a good experience from start to finish. When you call to place your order they are friendly and don't rush you through the ordering. Pick up is easy and simple. And the food itself, well I dream about it people. It. Is. Good. This tiny restaurant is in a strip mall that I pass by often, so when my mom asked me to pick up some chinese takeout for #girlsnight, I immediately thought "hmm I wonder about that one place..." The Yelp reviews made me give it a chance. The first thing I noticed is that there was a line to order! Always a good sign. I was greeted by a very nice woman who made some suggestions when I said I was looking for "their best chicken dish that wasn't spicy." I ended up with the cashew chicken which is basically what I was in the mood for anyway. They have two sizes - small, a pint size, and large, a quart. The small size is great for one person and is quite a deal as most things in that size were around $5! I ordered a large because we had two eating, and it was WAY too much for us, which is good, especially at $12! I took a seat with a couple of other people who were waiting for take out, and the one thing I noticed was that there were several other orders placed in just the few minutes that I was sitting there. The food was ready really quickly, under 10 minutes. It was fresh and pretty good. I would probably try something else next time. One thing I was left desiring was chopsticks or plastic ware or napkins! I didn't plan to take this home to eat it, but I had to because I didn't have any way to eat it! I don't know what the unhappy reviewer below is talking about! I've been eating at Great China since they opened and have NEVER had a bad experience! The food is always hot, freshly made and you cannot beat the prices. This is my go to spot after a long 13 hour shift and it's always ready when I get there. Great China has had the same owners and cooks since it opened. They work hard to serve great quality, authentic and tasty dishes. The other places in the area don't even compare! If you're in the area and have a craving for Chinese, go to Great China. Here's a tip: Call ahead if you're ordering food to go. It's always ready in 10-15 minutes. Don't buy a Shrimp fried rice. The shrimp are small and there's hardly any of them in it. We had bought two of the Quart sizes. The rice wasn't good tasting either. They wouldn't allow us to substitute some of the vegetables out either. At least the pork egg roll and cheese wontons were fine. I recommend going to another Chinese restaurant location. read more

I'm biased because I grew up with 'real' Chinese food, and the orange chicken here really freaked me out. It had a nice, citrusy hint to it, but the aggressively red sauce really bothered me. Their portions and prices were okay, but another thing that bothered me was that their menu said "no MSG on request". Um... I'm not sure if they share the same owner with China Wok, a few streets away, but their menus were really similar? I think their hot and sour soup were almost the same too. read more

I will never return to this restaurant, which I have gone to many times before, solely because of the lady who works the register and takes the orders. Tonight we opted to eat in instead ordering to go. Not much service was offered aside from bringing the food to the table. My daughter went to the counter for a refill on our drink as well as to-go containers. We also bussed our own table. Went to the bathroom before we left and as I started to pull out of my parking spot I realized that I didn't leave a tip on the table. Just as I realized it I saw the person who works the cash register and takes the order mouthing "you F***ing b*tch" staring right at me through the window shaking her head. I was pretty unimpressed with my food and service here. My husband and I were in the mood for Chinese take out, and thought we would give this location a shot since we have yet to find a good Chinese spot in the Eastgate area. Though my food was ready upon arrival, the staff was not particularly friendly or welcoming. In fact, when I asked for some extra duck and soy sauce they seemed a bit annoyed. I ordered and picked up my food sometime between 6:30pm-7pm, so I know their attitude was not because they were getting ready to close. Though their dinner prices are somewhat low, but I do not think it is a great deal. All of their entrees are served in either a pint or quart portion with only a choice or white or brown rice. That being said, I really don't think I got a full pint of General Tso's Chicken, since it was a tiny portion of Chicken and broccoli, drowning in a huge pool of loose sauce in a styrofoam container! The taste of our Gen. Tso's Chicken and Lo Mein was average, but our appetizer dumplings were pretty bad. They were not only tiny and soggy, but they were also flavorless, and not fresh! I realize that most dumplings from your average Chinese take out place are frozen, but these were some of the worst I have had. We will not be going back to this location. If anyone in the area knows of a Chinese take out spot in the area, with quality food and service, I would really appreciate it if you would let us know! read more

Portion size was horrible the chicken in my general tso chicken was mostly breading that had the texture of being made a day or 2 ago and the sauce tasted burnt. If I had only driven down the road another 2 miles I would have had an excellent dinner and it would have been a better value. Plus there was a very strange smell of sewage. I was in the area and did not feel like driving back down the road to my usual chinese place, so I decided why not be adventurous. So I tried eating here for the first time. The serving size was honestly 1/2 of what I was used to at another chinese place slightly down the road for a higher price for the same exact food of a lower quality. The dumplings were by far the only good part, even though they were very tiny. There was hardly anything to the meat it was like 80% sauce and 20% meat with like 5 veggies in there. The taste to the meat wasnt bad, but it wasnt what I would expect from a place saying you will love our food. The rice size was fairly laughable and it tasted all wrong just kinda dry and off seasoning wise. All together it put a huge dampener on my night, as I was excited to get chinese with my husband on a rare night out without the kids. I drive past this place everyday so I thought I would give it a chance. The place itself was dark and not very welcoming. It is hard to find a good chinese take out place and the lady at the counter wasn't very friendly. She seemed pretty annoyed when I asked questions about the dishes, as if I am supposed to know what vegetables are in certain dishes without it being listed on the menu. I was dying for some good chinese so I still ordered. I got fried rice, kung pao chicken, mongolian beef and egg rolls. Most everything was bland, the egg rolls were horrible.
