Use to love to eat there, but today the food and service was terrible. It took too long to get my take out order, the soup was cold, the egg roll was cold. The sauce from the orange chicken was all over the inside of the bag and the condiments and knife/fork, messy, messy. Small things, but food is not cheap these days and time is valuable. Kinda tired flavor. Cream cheese crabby foldie - uppies are a bit over crisp. Egg rolls are about the size of a small burrito. Plus in flavor. Crisp in and out with a anise or nutmeg undertone. Seafood dish is ankle deep in a non-discript brown sauce. Sweet. Kinda umami. Kinda. The vegs are tired. Lack of the snap. There was a mystery meat purported to be crab. It was a Tube of pinkish white substance with a mucilaginous texture. Somewhat off putting flavor reminiscent of seafood. Combined with the unappealing texture this unholy combination produced in me a distinct, mild choke of revulsion. I liked to Tsing Tso beer. Service is spot on. read more

One of the very few "Chinese" restaurants in our area that doesn't have a buffet, a plus for us. The dining area is really pleasant, nicely appointed and extremely clean as should be but is not always with eateries. Large varied menu with the usual suspects and loads of other options. Started with steamed dumplings which were good but the sauce was different than most other places - seemed like red wine vinegar and ginger - a bit off putting for us. The Szechwan Chicken was excellent and served with very good fried rice as requested. The Mu Shu Pork was tasty but also disappointing as it was served without any sauce on the pancakes it was dry and seemed more of a Chinese burrito. Overall an agreeable experience; we'll be back to try more of their dishes. read more

If I had to describe this place in one word, it'll be "efficient". Since I've only picked up food here(and currently dine in is closed), I don't have much to say with regards to the dine in experience at restaurant. I also couldn't get any recommendations on food selections based on the existing Yelp reviews. There appeared to be a dedicated person who took the phone to go orders. I ordered via phone, got to the place, paid, and eventually someone yelled out my order and I picked it up. There was quite a line and crowd of people, and they seemed to have a long list of orders, but everything I had ordered I received, so they seem to have the ordering process down. Food was pretty generic. I got the Beef Chow Fun, and never finished it, it eventually just tasted pretty bland after the first few bites. I also got the wonton soup and fried chicken wings. Honestly tastes like what you would get at a Chinese buffet. But that was what I expected to get, and thus they met my expectations. read more

While traveling through, we were looking for a good Chinese restaurant. The rating on Yelp was 4 star so gave it a try. Wow, they were under rated. This was the best Chinese food we have had in a long time. The combination plate came with a choice of soup, choice of sweet and sour pork, chicken or shrimp, egg roll, and choice of fried rice or lomein noodles. I had the Mongolian beef and my wife had the Shrimp and Vegetables. Both were outstanding!! My wife was impressed that they used fresh gulf shrimp instead of the imported, tasteless ones. All this for $12.95 and $13.95. We will definitely visit again when we are in the area. read more

I have come here for many years, and for almost 5 days a week earlier this year while my Grandmother was in the hospital. Most of my family really enjoys the food here as it is one of the few Chinese restaurants that is not a buffet. This tends to lend to a better quality of food overall. I am a man of habit and tend to get the same thing. This meal was no different with a Dinner Combination Beef Broccoli with Egg Drop soup and Sweet & Sour chicken with a Steamed Dumplings appetizer. This clocks in around 18$. Now on to the breakdown! Food: What I look for in a restaurant is a combination of Quality/Quantity/Price to determine value. The food is usually the same with a decent quality. I believe they still use MSG unless you ask for it removed. I do love the egg drop soup though. The Quantity is moderate as being a bigger guy, I usually have to eat the appetizer to fill up. As for price I think it's about right and thus I give it a 4/4/4 for a food score of 4.0 Ambience: The front of the building is the takeout area and it seems to be always busy. Most of the business they do goes through there it seems. In the back in a small but nicely decorated dining area with light Chinese music playing. There are 4 4-top booths and 15 2 or 4-top tables. It is normally quiet as the people who eat here don't tend to be rowdy like a buffet is. I give the Ambience a solid 4.0. Waitstaff: Usually either day or night there is only one waitress on staff with the owner helping if necessary. If it does tend to get full, you might have to wait a moment for them to get back to you, but both of the usual waitresses are very attentive. Get their attention and they come over in a snap. I give it another solid 4.0. With a score of 4.0 across the board, this is a solid place to eat, by yourself or with the family. I always recommend this place to people looking for decent food at a good price. read more

Love this place, I get the combination platter gen two's chicken , my husband gets the broccoli and beef extra spicy and my boy gets the teriyaki chicken. We also get the spicy pepper sauce which you can add to your food like sweet and sour sauce . Great service, staff is always nice and helpful..very attentive too. read more

The menu at Great China is almost too big. My wife and I have our favorite dishes and usually stick to them, although we do experiment on occasion. She likes the house lo mein, while I prefer the shrimp egg foo Yung. One of the really cool things about Great China is that they will let let you add shrimp by dollar amount. Just ask for, say, two dollars worth of extra shrimp in your egg foo Yung and they are more than happy to accommodate. Big, plump shrimp, too. This is one of the few Chinese restaurants left that is not a buffet. It's a very nice place for a sit-down meal and is always busy with to go orders, since it's right across the street from the hospital. The service is very good and the prices are quite reasonable. read more

Ohh how long I've waited, waited for delicious Oolong Tea! This is an inexpensive, quiet place to enjoy traditional Chinese dishes. The Oolong tea is perfect for a cold night, paired with THE BEST hot and sour soup. My husband loves the General Tso's but needs the entire army to help him eat it. Okay, I admit, I'm impressed. I was in Beaumont for business, and I honestly didn't expect anything more than crappy Americanized Chinese food with too much breading and grease. Boy, was I surprised. I ordered the Mongolian Beef lunch special with Hot and Sour soup, and I was blown away. The beef was tender and subtly flavored, the onions crisped perfectly, and the scallions obviously fresh. I did find the fried noodles underneath to be almost stale, but the egg roll was obviously freshly made and the serving size plentiful. The hot and sour soup wasn't amazing, but it was significantly better than average, and the portion size was just perfect to match my lunch. The whole thing with takes was just over nine dollars, so that made it a bargain as well. Recommended! read more

For Beaumont this is as good as it gets from what I have seen. There is better in other cities but this place is great, cheap, clean and great service.. It usually is quite to dine in also, most people do take out even if it looks busy most of the time it is just people picking up food to go. We have been here.. maybe 10 times and I'll pick this place over any other Chinese restaurant in Beaumont that I know of. read more

My family and I have been eating at Great China for YEARS. It's our go-to for catering special events, and family gatherings. The owners are so nice, and so are the waitstaff. Ms Cookie is hilarious, and has such an excellent memory. This is probably the closest to actual Chinese food that you can get without having to drive to Houston's Chinatown. Mr. Mike, the owner, used to also own King Palace Buffet which also USED to be amazing, but since he sold it, that place has gone under. I am relieved that Great China continues to flourish. I love their lunch specials because they're affordable and filling. I love their hot and sour soup, ginger wings, Mongolian chicken, roasted duck, combination fried rice, mushu pork... This is the best Chinese food in all Southeast Texas. The same folks who run this place, used to run the China Palace in Beaumont's West End. It was equally as good. We always get take out here, and you get a lot for the money. A small fried rice and feed a family of four. The eggrolls are just awesome. I would recomend trying something different every time, because it is so good. Still, after eating there every couple a times a month for the last 25 years, I normally get House Special Fried Rice or Lo Mein. read more

My father lives in Beaumont and he just turned 90. We asked him what he wanted to do for his birthday and he said he wanted to go to dinner at Great China. He loves the place and often goes for dinner on Friday nights after synagogue. We were very skeptical, but my brother and I wanted to support my dad on his milestone birthday. We figured if he wanted to eat mediocre chinese food, we'd be right there with him. Boy, we were wrong. A few weeks before the dinner, I called ahead to set up a special menu. I spoke to Mike, the owner, and we worked out a menu that included Peking duck, lobster with ginger, spicy shrimp and dumplings. He was very attentive and made some good suggestions. We had a large group - 9 people and when we showed up for the dinner, Mike wasn't there and the waiter who was helping us said Mike was off that night. I got very nervous, but shortly after we sat down, Mike showed up and the food started rolling out. We started with special wonton soup that was full of vegetables and delicate wontons. It was tasty. Next, we had pork and shrimp filled pot stickers. They were also quite tasty. Then the Peking duck arrived. YUM! Everyone was very impressed. Finally, all the other dishes arrived - whole lobsters in a thick ginger sauce, dry fried shrimp, house special lo mein and fried rice. Everything was delicious and my dad had a very good time picking through the succulent bits of lobster. We had brought our own cake, which Mike cut for us. And we took a whole bunch of lo mein and fried rice home. Not only was the food first class, but the service was first class as well. It was a memorable dinner that made us all very happy. No idea how this place has so many stars. We went here because of the stars and we're very disappointed. Their Hot and Sour Soup did not taste like Hot and Sour soup. There was something very wrong with the broth. It had no flavor at all and smelled like feet---yup, that's not a typo, it smelled like feet! Could not eat it. We ordered the General Tao's Chicken and the Orange Chicken. They were both a sticky gooey mess with no flavor. Tons of sugar and barely editable, there was no flavor just sugar. The fried rice was probably the worse fried rice I've ever had in my life and i love chinese and have had lots and lots in my life and this is the worst fried rice I've ever had. Not even editable! The egg roll was good but that's about it. Really, really bad chinese food here. We left feeling very sick... yuck! Will NEVER go back! read more
