I started going there since they opened. Probably in total of 10 times. This time I asked for undercut fade that features a mid to high blurry fade, with hair that's medium to long on top and short on the sides. Unfortunately they messed up and I attached couple of pictures for you. Also, after I read some reviews on yelp I figured the management doesn't care about customer service, probably because they have a lot of customers who most are UCI students and their location is across street(good location). I just had the best haircut I've ever had in my 61+ years by superstar Tamy. She demonstrated such perfection of style and amazing precision. She had this technique I've never seen before that's hard to even describe where she was sort of tapering 'the edges of the tapers' by this tiny little flick of her wrist. After perfectly trimming and tapering the sides and back with a variety of clippers, she hand-trimmed the top using a "freestyle" artistic technique that I've also never seen before... (no hair between the fingers), and it looks awesome! I am soooo impressed! I felt compelled to tell her that she is head and shoulders above any other stylist that has ever cut my hair, and I tipped a lot because she deserves it. If you want to retain customers, you probably shouldn't constantly tell them how greasy they are as you do the haircut!! Not sure if my lady meant well, but I found it rude she kept saying I put oil in my hair when I don't use any products whatsoever; she didn't even bother to give me a solution if greasy does happen to be a problem. The cut turned out fine, but she kind of even laughed when i first told her what kind of style i wanted. She also laughed at the fact I was double masking despite the CDC saying being maskless is fine. Don't question my choice. Seriously, only come here if your barber is sick or in an emergency. I've gotten a cut here maybe eight times in the past four years, and only the Asian guy with spikes delivers a proper hair cut. All employees here will be able to give you a standard cut, but not all of them can fade and blend with good precision. The tell is how your hair looks after about 3 weeks. Mine looked like it got caught in a lawn mower unfortunately. With this issue it is hard to justify $15 for a cut (and that is without a tip). My advice would be to try this place out and see if it works for you, but be warned because you may not be too satisfied with your haircut. If you want a specific haircut, don't get it here. When I came in and sat down in the chair, I requested that she only take 3-4 inches off of my hair and motioned where I wanted the length to be. The barber immediately started to chop my hair and did a completely uneven job, and ended up cutting it noticeably shorter than what I asked since she made that first mistake. I came to this salon and asked them for curtain bangs and a blowout. I then waited for about 50 minutes before the lady cut my hair. She then proceeded to tell me that they don't have the equipment for a blowout. While cutting my curtain bangs she cut my hair in a straight line and told me to curl my hair if I wanted them to look like curtain bangs. However, curtain bangs are supposed to be cut at an angle which she clearly didn't do. I wasted my time and money just to not get my curtain bangs. Came in on a Saturday afternoon and put my name down. I waited about 15min, which isn't bad because it looked really packed. My hair cutter did a great job, very clean and personable. Also you get a dollar discount if IJ have your UCI I'd. It was also pretty fast - the haircut lasted about 15min. This is a terrible places no matter if u make an appointment online or over the phone you still have to wait 15 to 20 minutes for someone to see you and when u tell them that you have an appointment they cop attitude and roll their eyes and tell you to wait what is the point of making an appointment if you still have to wait. The whole purpose of making an appointment is that when you come in your immediately serviced. I think this company is now under new management and every hairstylist is bitter and they show it to their customers I have a disabled mother that has dementia that I bring in every two months for a perm I always book the appointments online and I call before to confirm the appointment time and date so that I know that I can get her in immediately unfortunately this company does not support disabled people and don't accommodate in any way and at the end or even rude about it. The staff is great at providing good detail in styling, and provides fast service, even during busy times. (sightly short of a million bucks since i didn't walk out in a blazer/suit) the dude was nice, friendly and conversational. he made my hair a little thinner to make it more easy to style. They will know what you got last time by using your phone number in their database. And if you're a UCI student, i believe you get 1$ off. Ivy was TERRIBLE and RUDE. She cut my mom's NECK during a routine haircut and then had the AUDACITY to say that the welt forming on my mother's neck was because my mom touched her neck, thereby irritating her skin. It made NO sense. I asked for a first aid kit at the front desk at which point Ivy could have had the decency to acknowledge her mistake and apologize. However, instead she tried to accuse us of touching my mom's neck(?!). I'm not even making this up, it was so absurd!! The manager came in and tried to apologize on Ivy's behalf. Another hair-dresser who was also shocked by Ivy's behavior and SAW my mom's injury brought out ointment like I had requested, but we were given NO refund. I'm severely disappointed with the appallingly rude service my family experienced. My suggestion to "Great Clips" is to invest in better medical and safety protocol. If a client is injured by an employee, they should be taken care of. The only good thing I can say is that Gina's Pizza across the way was SO KIND in getting us ice for my mother's injury. read more

I believe the lady who cut my hair was the business owner. Do not come here for a trim or anything; you cannot trust the barber. I sat down and asked for a healthy trim, no more than 2 inches off everything. My hair is already layered into a v shape in the back, so I assumed the barber would cut accordingly. However, right after she tied the apron around my head, she chopped off a good amount of my hair without even brushing it or wetting it. It was windy outside, and my hair was twisted and tangled in this state. I was shocked when she snipped it off because I thought she was just putting her fingers two inches above my hair to check what length was okay with me, but she just chopped it off immediately without brushing it when I said it was fine. Moreover, she decided to brush and wet my hair right after but it was horrible; she was pulling my tangled hair with no regard to my pain levels. Normally, a hairdresser would hold the root of the hair when brushing long hair so that it doesn't pull at it or hurt the person getting the haircut. She then cut off even more than I had told her, and she gave me a straight back with uneven ends (I no longer had V-shaped hair in the back). The hairdresser doesn't care about the person. They simply cut as if they want to just get the job done. I went home and grieved the loss of my hair. I think she cut off 5-6 inches, which took a long time to grow. My mom has a traditional perspective on beauty, and she never let me hear the end of it when she saw my shorter hair. They're always rude and their customer service is crappy. On behalf of my husband this review is for Louie and Ivy. They are both very nice, they listen to what you want, and will check in throughout the haircut to make sure it's what you want. He's gotten several different styles and lengths over the years and it always works well. They mention products you might want to buy but they do not go overboard if you're not interested. Tips: check in online so you don't have to wait too long when you get there. It's often crowded on weekends. Also use your UCI ID to get a discount. read more

Not too sure why this place is rated so low. I've been here since I moved to Irvine two years ago and have had pretty good experiences here. At first, of course, it was a little shaky with regards to hair length/style because they were just getting down my numbers, but after the third time or so, the notes in my file (they keep track of how they cut my hair previously) were pretty on point with what I like. I've had three people cut my hair there, and ever since my file was set in stone I haven't had an issue with hair length or style. The price can be a little much ($14 for non-UCI students, $13 for UCI students for a basic cut with no shampoo), but what price can't be lowered and make me happier? read more
