Don't go with Daniel, the guy on the profile picture - he overly advertised himself on be internet! I showed him the look I wanted, and he appeared confident at first. However, once he finished, it was clear the technique wasn't there. I specifically asked for layers, but he told me they weren't necessary. He cut my hair from almost wrist-length to neck-length, and the back ended up even shorter than the front, which looks unbalanced. Super impressed with this hair salon! I brought my niece here to get the "wolf style" haircut and Matthew delivered. He was able to blend all the layers perfectly and did such a great job styling her hair. The cost for a haircut is a little pricey but they definitely know how to cut well. Over priced and under performed. I showed my hairstylist the picture of my natural blonde hair, explained I had used box dye over six months ago and wanted to go back to blonde. He said he could do it, and that it would count as a coloring ($150). I was so excited, had been saving up for this and told all my friends. The process was nice, however, when my hair was blow dried it was the SAME color that it was when I walked into the salon. Dark brown, only this time it had a tiny bit of a silver tint to it which they said would wash away anyways. Then I was told that since they used toner on my hair that counted as ANOTHER coloring ($150). I didn't request a cut or style, just my nice blonde hair back. I got brown hair, and an extremely high receipt which I even tipped on, coming out to $368. The people here are so kind, I felt bad coming back to ask for help since it was not what I requested, and they said they could either tone it to be more yellow (no) or they could do a SECOND round of bleach on my hair, but that it would damage the bottom of my hair and make it hard and crunchy. I was devastated and didn't know how to continue with the process since both options were not great. I decided to cut my losses and leave, but have been crying in my car over feeling robbed of $368. I will not be returning to T5 in Irvine. If you read further reviews, someone said "this is a glorified barbershop with trend K-pop hairstyles". That's pretty spot on. I wanted to get a last minute hair trim and T5 had same day, same hour availability. I showed up and the hairstylists were all men. There were a few customers and they were also all men. It felt like I walked into a barbershop. (I've had male hairstylists before but it's a yellow/red flag to me when there are no female hairstylists.) For reference, my hair is thick and textured, typical Asian hair. Daniel was my stylist. Hair wash was not very thorough. It felt like they hired an inexperienced college kid to wash my hair. Hair cut was "meh". Daniel handled my hair like he lack experience, also not thorough. He gave me a blow dry but no styling. Usually other places ask if I want to curl it or something. That just reconfirms lack of experience. So I don't get the positive reviews on Yelp. As another reviewer stated, T5 took the same location where Empire Salon used to be so maybe the Empire Salon reviews got mixed in? Net net, I do not recommend this place. read more

They could not understand what I meant when I said I just wanted curtain bangs and layers while maintaining my length. I was sad and I ran scissors through my hair and cut off 6-7 inches of my beautiful healthy long lush hair to provide myself with enough negative reinforcement that I would never make the same mistake again... I felt to IDGAF I intentionally self sabotaged my hair). **Okay I measured it... it was NINE INCHES!!! on a brighter note, I found a foundation that accepts 8inches or more to make wigs for cancer patients!! woo hoo!!** Anywayssss... Empire Salon is the nearest salon from my office building. It is actually walking distance if I wanted to walk over. I called in early Friday morning when the opened and made an appointment for 4:30 pm. Here at Empire Salon, there are 4 different tiers of hair stylists: Stylist ($50), Artist ($60), Master ($67) and Director ($85) -- prices are for women's hair. I arrived a bit early. It was nice in the sense that they offered me a beverage but I was much taken back by the hostess when she was unable to answer a few questions I had about other services that were offered at the salon. I am also disappointed by the cramped and chaotic layout of the salon. This is the reason I had to take a star away from this review!! I was blessed to be with Janette Dang, an Artist level stylist. She was very attentive to what I wanted and she made a few suggestions to help me make the best of the situation. I absolutely LOVE Janette!!!!!!!! She was able to even me out without making my hair any shorter than it needs to be. I especially loved the way she trimmed up my bangs. It has a nice flow. It is rare that I can find someone to give me perfect bangs, but Janette definitely did not disappoint me. I look forward to coming back for some chit chatter and routine bang trims ($10) since Empire Salon is so conveniently close to my office. I really couldn't say my WHOLE experience was worth a 5 star, but Janette definitely deserves a 5 star!! I would recommend her to anyone!! I called T5, told them I wanted money pieces, and they booked me for the next day! I went in and D.C dyed and cut my hair. He gave me his opinion and was honest about how my hair would take the bleach, etc. They took care of me past closing and made sure I still got impeccable service. BEWARE: This salon is basically a barber shop for trendy k-pop haircuts. The reviews that are shining are from the previous salon called "Empire Salon". When I showed the stylist the photo I basically explained I wanted to keep the majority of my length and trim about an inch, with jaw-length curtain bangs. He gave me layers and thinned out my hair so much that it looks stringy. I was so angry I paid and wished I hadn't tipped. He didn't even use heat protectant in my hair. While he was combing through it he was practically yanking at my ends. Also, he used two hair dryers to dry my hair at once. The haircut lasted only 30 minutes and he didn't even trim it while wet. They have no idea how to style women's hair. While the cut isn't so bad, the whole point of this was to maintain my length and he just thinned my hair out. So I went in for a haircut yesterday and I showed the hairstylist a picture of what I wanted and he said he can do it and all just that he wanted to start the layers lower so it has more movement and not flat. I still feel like crying, I'm so angry. It turned out nothing like the picture I showed him. Worst still my near waist length hair is now touching my shoulder. I felt like screaming but I just paid and even tipped walked out. This was a WILD experience. Let me preface this by saying I am a caucasian woman with long wavy '2B' type hair that is on the thicker side. Everyone was super friendly, but I just don't think this place is for people with my kind of hair. After being washed and shampooed I was led to a stylist that did not speak English, which is fine, but a bit limiting when you are trying to get a service like this done. He brought someone over to translate, which felt a bit odd. I asked for a two-inch trim and face-framing layers that would start at about my chin. The stylist 100% delivered on these demands. He followed the directions. However, with thick wavy hair you have to thin the layered sections out a bit more to avoid the dreaded triangle look. You gotta give the hair more shape, it's a whole thing. He blow-dried my hair straight at the end, and it looks really nice. In fact, I've received quite a few compliments on it today. But for my regular wash and wear, this will not work. My hair is not straight, I haven't washed it yet but I can already see the ends poofing out into that triangle shape. I know once I wash it that will be even more of an issue. All in all, I got what I asked for, but it's not quite right. read more

I've been here a couple times now to see Taylor for color and she's amazing. She does this amazing scalp massage during the shampoo and is a wizard at color while keeping your hair healthy. One occasion I saw her was right before my vow renewal ceremony/party and she matched the color perfectly with extensions that she fit and styled for me as well. I highly recommend her! The staff is also extremely accommodating and nice and the place clean and organized. Their text confirmation system is pretty cool and every receptionist I've interacted with has been pretty awesome. read more

So I came in again and my hair was able to lift higher, yet not as platinum as I had wanted. Still a tiny bit brassy. I left feeling somewhat satisfied. For my overall cut and color, I would rate it a 3 stars. I got my hair done about a month ago. It has really grown on me and I have received many compliments. My husband got his hair done there a few weeks after me, and he came out happy and looking pretty good; I think he had his hair done by Amber. Service: 4 stars. The service at Empire is fantastic. After reading all the rave reviews on yelp I knew I had to come and see for myself what all the hype was about. Seriously, 50+ reviews with a near unanimous 5 star rating? Impressive. I came on my lunch break and got paired up with Ashley Martin. She was wonderful from beginning to end!! First she took me to a room where I could put on a salon robe. Then she sat me down and asked me exactly what I wanted - lots of choppy layers (keeping the length) with bangs. We then went over to shampoo and I loved this part cuz she thoroughly massaged my neck and scalp!! Felt great! As she started cutting she stopped every so often to make sure it was okay with me before she did certain things to my hair. Before even starting she asked if I minded her using a razor to achieve the choppy layers I was going for (I said no I didn't mind at all). It's that kind of courtesy and respect I really appreciate in a stylist - none of that snobbery and "I am the best and will do what I please" attitude around here! I told her I always have trouble with getting volume in my hair, so the whole time she was cutting and styling, she gave me all these great take home tips that sounded easy enough. I was soo happy with the end result! My cut is simple but still stylish. Perfect for someone like me who doesn't put products in her hair or doesn't like to take too much time out of her morning styling her hair! See pic EDIT: My photo was removed by Yelp as it was apparently not "broadly representative of the business." I've never seen or heard about this in my years of using Yelp. Veryvery suspicious censorship of photos; as the photo is an actual picture of work done to my hair by Amber. Wow. I kept my pic from 2010 (though I debated deleting it) to show you what they used to be able to do, but I guess now they're just lazy or something. I don't know. *shrugs* They let me leave the salon with this mess, and it wasn't until my much taller sister took a pic for me that I realized what had been done.
