I've seen this location in passing and there's usually a lot of people in there getting haircuts. I decided to give it a try and showed up 10 mins after opening. Apparently you can book online to reserve yourself a spot and then they will text you 15 mins before your time is ready. I arrived 10 mins after opening without knowing you can book online and there were 4 people ahead of me and they said an estimated wait time of 1 hour! However, luckily none of them showed up so I was seated within 10 mins of waiting. I had Marie who was wonderful. I showed her a photo and she was able to give me a haircut pretty close within 10 mins. She was super polite and very clean with her tools and the area around. Overall, solid haircut for $25. I'm always a bit wary because asian hair can be hard to cut and show if it's uneven but Marie did a wonderful job. Worth the price! read more

Very nice folks. Three of us showed up for haircuts and we each got a hairdresser so we're done quickly. Two kids cuts were handled professionally and they came out great. I always get a haircut at Great Clips and every time I go there the staff is very friendly and professional. They always give me the haircut style that I ask for and they always make sure that I'm happy with the haircut before I leave. What really stands out at this Great Clips Salon is their mix of music that they have playing. They play songs from all over the world and it feels very welcoming. Another thing that stands out is the overall cleanliness of the store. I notice that the stylists always take enough time to clean the chair and the equipment before taking the next customer. My son has been going there since elementary school..he is now in college. Always the same haircut...4 on the sides, 6 on top. He went in today and asked for a little shorter and they did a 1 on the sides and 6 on top without showing him how different this would look! Then they wanted him to pay for it! After getting his money back after I called the district manager they tried to tell him the bald spot is a birth mark and that to refuse him service in the future. (Like we will come back). I went to get a haircut and my info was in the system. However my identity was mistaken and I wound up getting someone else's haircut! It was a crew cut, I never had one in my entire life! I showed my stylist, Marie, a few photos of the look I wanted and she assured me she knew what I wanted and referred to the notes in my profile... but it was NOT my profile Marie was friendly and the location at Northgate was clean, but seriously my hair is finally ready for a cut in April (since the "crew cut" done was back in December)! I am very hesitant to go back because of this error. I would strongly suggest you double or triple check your profile with your stylist and do not close your eyes for a moment. read more

Edit 8/30/19: The business manager is obviously a liar who will stop at nothing to protect the questionable reputation of his business. I went to this establishment a couple months ago. Look at the responses he has to all of the bad reviews, he just blames the customers for all the issues with his business. Just look at how rude and unprofessional his response is to this review, that just shows how the business operates. My son and I had our first visit last week and were more than satisfied with his haircut. He has curly hair and have tried a few places, but we don't like the results . The other places cut it too short or don't seem to know how to cut curly hair. My son was so happy when we left! He is ten and has never expressed such happiness over a haircut. I was in and my stylist was Marta. She was polite, precise and my cut was EXACTLY what I asked for. She was so professional and friendly, I felt pampered. These guys rating the ENTIRE staff as being rude is a LIE. JORDAN states he gets his haircut monthly at a barbershop and yet he visits Great Clips once and rates the entire visit with a low rating. Mediocre. Haircuts are average, and the staff is trashy. While there with my 3 year old son, we witnessed a muted but profane 20 minute argument between two employees. On our next visit, one of the employees bridge and tunnel friends stopped by to hang out with her during her break. They both came back stoned and reeking of weed. I don't begrudge anyone their vice, but when the tools of your trade are a sharp pair of scissors perhaps you can wait till after work to get high? Depending on what stylist you get, this place is either excellent for the price or so abysmal you'll be tempted to walk (quickly) away without paying. Whatever you do, don't let Amy (the older lady) cut your hair. She doesn't know what she's doing. The cut I picked out was symmetrical with lots of layers. At first she just took some length off, leaving the hair blunt cut and much too thick; when I asked for more layers she took a massive chunk out of the left side and then asked if I wanted it any shorter. I was afraid to let her destroy it any further so I left that day with ridiculously uneven looking hair; she made a SHELF... not LAYERS. This was not a one time thing, either, as a friend of mine had the same experience; she cut one side of his hair shorter than the other. Megan, on the other hand, is much more skilled. She gave me the 'do I wanted with no fuss- which is as it should be; the haircut I like is very simple after all. They don't do reservations, only walk-ins. Fast and efficient. If there is a wait it pays to wait in the store. They will take you ahead of someone else who is stepped out. So, my 45 min wait was just 20 seconds because everyone ahead of me had stepped out. Cool. Haircut was good. I look just like George Clooney now. Checked in online, said 0 minute wait, got in the car and headed there to have son's haircut. Took roughly 15 mins to drive from novato to San Rafael to the shop. When we got there, the lady was horribly rude. Said she marked him absent because he wasn't there within 15 minutes of checking in. She said that now we have to wait 45 minutes if we want a haircut because she would only move him to the bottom of the line. Apparently when you check in online, and the wait time is 0 mins, you have to be able to teleport to have an appointment. Ridiculous. Had she been nice and understanding, that would of been on thing but she was very rude. Not going back there. Lost a customer. read more

Unbelievable I came here today about 2 hours before closing and had asked for a simple straight hair cut. I do not know the mans name but I know he was Asian. Anyways, so I get there and already he rarely talked. He had a weird vibe but I didn't mind. I asked to use his brush to brush my hair and he checked me if I had lice for a while. It was very weird but I understood. While cutting my hair he still barely would speak and he would just sort of push my head a certain way instead of saying turn. My hair cut was done and paid for later to find out he cut it slanted! I don't recommend to people with longer hair I believe it is not his good spot just wanted to let others know. Great Clips opened for business on October 31, 2011, and is having a $7.99 haircut special during November. I happened to see this sign at the exact moment my 3 year old, who had been enjoying monthly $25+ tip cuts, needed a haircut. I am so happy I learned of this gem! I took my son there this morning, and have to admit I am the type of mom who is a little cautious of who cuts by boy's hair, but Marci quickly demonstrated that she was a real pro. Before I could blink an eye Marci had trimmers out, Thomas the Train on DVD, and a comfy booster seat on the chair. With my son at ease, Marci took just enough time to make sure the cut was flawless, just like at those places I had paid so much more for the same haircut! Bad, uneven haircut from an nervous lady at her first day at the shop. Her tools were not sharp, so she tugged at may hair because her tools and skills were sub-par. The manager asked another stylist there to even up my cut at the end. I was sweating bullets... I am mindful this is not a high end shop and they have a lot of turnover. A redeeming factor is the manager made things better when I spoke with her at the end. I need a drink! read more

After a couple of years of trying to make this place work because it is just so convenient, my family and I are done coming to this place. The work here is very inconsistent, even with the same stylist and relatively simple cuts from visit to visit. Also, they REALLY do not seem to like cutting small children's hair. Prices are up about 30% or more in a couple of years. Part of the plan I think when you open a chain store like this one. Anyway, it has hit a level where all the issues vs. the price + tips (whey deserved) don't make sense anymore. If they were consistent, good and actually seemed to care what they do it wouldn't be over priced. But, relative to what you get, it no longer something I could recommend. read more

"Hit or miss" depending on which stylist you get. I only trust Trung with my haircut. Pros: online check in, stylist expertise (Trung), coupons Cons: average skills regarding male "barber" style haircuts, lack of a secretary to answer phone calls I've been a consistent customer here for a couple years only for one specific stylist, Trung. If he's busy with another cut, I'd be willing to wait. However, if he's not available I'd walk out the door due to my prior experiences with other stylists. I've had a couple experiences where some stylists did not know how to properly cut a "taper fade". I understand that Great Clips is not a barber shop, however a "taper fade" is a common hair style in males that should be known as a hairstylist. I also find it annoying how this shop would get numerous phone calls during my haircut and my stylist would have to stop cutting to answer it. Nevertheless, I return to this shop trusting Trung alone to shape my hair into whatever my heart desires. He's great with communication and educating me in what's best to achieve the perfect haircut. read more

I just got a haircut here by a new girl...I was her first cut. IT TURNED OUT TERRIBLE. Absolutely uneven all the way around, it seemed like she didn't even know how to cut hair. VERY VERY disappointed and while I'm sure everyone else does a fine job cutting hair, Ebony was terrible. Took time out of my busy day to get my hair cut and spent money on this and it is the worst haircut of my life. Had to come home and try and fix it myself as I felt like I knew more about keeping everything even than my stylist did. Will now be spending even more money to get my hair fixed somewhere else. read more

I took my 2 year old for a hair cut. The gentleman looked annoyed when he saw the baby. I sat on the chair with my son on my lab and he rudely exclaims "you clearly never done this before".(3rd kid, I have done this countless times) Then puts the cape over me. Then he went to put one on my son and I said he usually does not wear one, so he rudely spiked it on the table to show his anger. At this point the child has done nothing but sit on my lap, no crying no yelling, nothing. He touched a brush to his hair and when he made a slight move the man got upset again. I said the best way to hold him is facing me, held tight. I turned him around and the man stormed off and said he won't cut the child's air. Make a point to be as rude as possible. Again, at no point did the child do anything but sit on my lap. No crying, no yelling, nothing. I was especially shocked by all this because this same man has cut this child's hair before with no problems. read more
