I got my haircut here yesterday and it was anything but a 'Great Clip'. I should've listened to the mother in front of me after the stylist (I believe her name was Huong) hacked her daughter's hair. Now, mind you, I wasn't asking for anything difficult. I'm a simple guy: 1/2 inch scissor trim all over, and clean up the ears, neck, and sideburns. This a run of the mill haircut. I've gotten this cut countless times and never had this royally messed up. Hair was different lengths all over the place, my sideburns were uneven, she 'white walled' (as the barber I saw after said) the hair behind my ears, and the list of issues goes on and on. I'd avoid this place like the plague unless you're looking for a buzz. Although some of the stylists there might be good, they clearly don't properly vet when hiring, and you're in for a game of roulette if you don't know better. read more

Thanks Steven for the tip on the grand opening promotion! I came in to take advantage of the $3.99 haircut promo (yes, same price for women's haircuts too!) and I walked out very happy! Note that Great Clips is not a full-service salon - they ONLY do cuts and some styling (no colors, perm, etc.). I guess that's how they keep their prices low. If you're worried about the quality of the haircut because of the $3.99 promo price tag, see if you can ask for Jenell to cut your hair. She has great salon experience and she took her time to put lots of love into my haircut! I would recommend her if you plan to stop in. She's a real sweet gal! I tipped her extra on top of the tip for regular price too, since she seemed to be the best one, and the price was already so cheap! This place is getting high tech as well... they enter your information into the computer when you come in for a haircut, so be prepared for that. During the promo (ends 11/24/10), your wait time could be anywhere between 13-40 mins, depending on how many people are ahead of you, and they don't take appointments (only walk ins) for this grand opening promo. read more

My 5 star rating goes to Pat the manager for my experience getting my hair done... Great clips as well as super cuts get really bad reviews all the time. And I understand why! I've personally have had my hair destroyed before at different super cuts and great clips locations. And well I just don't have to money to afford a privately owned hair salon that charges $30-$100 for a hair cut. So I didn't give up hope. This time I contacted this location via Yelp looking for a specific stylist with experience with curly hair (my hair is curly). The owner Ray took the time to contact the manager and took interest in my concerns. Once at the location Pat the manager decided to work on my hair herself. She really took the time with my hair , understanding how it works and took everything I wanted into consideration. I can not speak for the rest of stylist but I did witness them doing lots of men hair cuts and they did pretty good. So for men, I think your safe with any stylist. As for the ladies who are scared to enter places like great clips, I understand your fears and anxieties very well and I can tell you that your safe in Pat's hands. She's amazing and I will have her as go to hair stylist from now on. read more

When it comes to getting my hair cut, I am low maintenance. I do not want a shampoo, cut, color, and the whole works. I just need a simple trim to get rid of my split ends and to somewhat keep the overall length. Great Clips totally fits the bill. No appointments are needed and wait time is relatively short especially if you check in online. If you do not check in online, the wait time can be a tad long especially if you come at a busy time such as Saturday morning. I've had my hair cut and trimmed by several of the stylists at this location. I've never had a bad experience. I usually just get a few inches cut off the back with a few layers throughout my hair. I am usually in and out in 30 minutes. Just how I like it! Plus it is really cheap for a haircut, just under $20! read more

I didn't come in expecting a whole lot because it's a chain haircut place so I had tame expectations but my oh my was this place bad. I was about to sit down for the haircut and the lady goes "Quick cut today" and I knew I should've backed out right then. But alas. The haircut went on to be a battle of unevenness where she tried to fix it by chopping off more and re iterating the hair cut length number. Absolutely horrific experience and I STRONGLY recommend people to steer clear. I would've gotten the name of the lady but I forgot but it's the first stall to the left. My long-term stylist moved out of state almost a year ago and I've been searching ever since for my next long-term stylist, from fine salons to one person shops. A couple months ago I was desperate for a cut and popped into Great Clips after the gym with my fingers crossed. I was so happy to find Gina! Great price and great service. Johnny (sp?) took the time to understand what I wanted, provided great suggestions, then proceeded to expertly cut my hair as agreed upon. I did not have to wait too long even though I was a walk-in customer. One of their advantages is to log into their database how my hair was cut last. That way, you should be able to go to virtually any location and take comfort in that the stylist will know how to properly cut your hair, etc. I was fortunate enough to have a coupon from the Warrior game which gave me my first haircut for free. I went for a haircut on Sunday afternoon and my stylist was Shahnaz. She appeared to be a bad mood and she wiped off half of my eye brow by mistake. She was so unprofessional that she did not point out her mistake and left it for me to find out until I got home. I complained to the manager and the owner and they were very cooperative and apologetic. They assured me that Shahnaz would undergo further training to prevent this from happening again. I have to share my disappointing experience my daughter and I had here. First of all...it seems that if you do NOT do the online check-in your treated like a second class citizen. We walked in last night with two people ahead of us and told we would be next and it would take about 10-15 minutes of waiting time. As we're waiting approximately 30 minutes, others came in and when the two people that were ahead of us were finished we expected to be next. But, NOOOOOOO they took two others that apparently did an online check-in instead. Talk about BAD business practice and having no regard for our time!!! Whatever happened to first come, first serve? We left without a haircut for my daughter because she was pressed with school work that needed time to be completed and we basically ran out of time as well as patience. We dealt with Jenny and Yvonne last night and I'm feeling like they need additional training with Customer Service. There's no reason to say one thing and then do another when it comes to that. Had a good today until I visited this place. My stylist, an old asian lady with spectacles did not want to listen to what I had to say. I told her I needed a zero on the sides, and she goes - "then why is the computer saying you got 1.5 last time.". This was my first time at this shop, there was no possibility of having any data. Then she rechecks and tells me - oh i got confused. She messes up fading my hair on the sides as well as the top. She clearly had no intention of doing her job. Im really pissed off that such a behavior wasn't handled by her peers/manager at the counter whom i told what happened. I did not pay a tip, I never intend on coming and I've asked my friends not to go here either. I'm literally thinking about starting a campaign against this place. read more

Went in today and got an excellent haircut and style from Lexy! I always put off getting my hair cut because I can never figure out what I want to do with it... Lexy knew exactly what would look good on me and I walked away super happy with it. She also did a super cute style for me (light curls with a braided headband--I will post a picture). It was my first time at Great Clips. I had a long hair and wanted to cut very short... and I needed someone with experience and that could understand me as well. I went there in the morning and there was no one. So I asked for Lexi (as I read all the good reviews about her here, on yelp) and she did such an awesome job. First of all... Lexi is American!! Yes, she is American and she understands exactly everything you ask for. She is a good listener and she has a really good vibe. She was pretty quick of understanding what I wanted and right away she started cutting my hair. She was extremely professional and I just loved the result!!! I've been to super fancy and expensive salons but it didn't worth. Here is affordable and you feel great after cutting the hair. Finally, after 2 years living in Sunnyvale, I've found my hairstyle... and I am sooo glad I've found a perfect one!! read more

So they tend to do a good job on my boys whenever we go there and the stylists I have had (and unfortunately, cannot remember their names) have been nice. I have experienced it when it was super crowded, but they were able to take my son within 10 minutes. I had issues with the ambiquity of their coupon, but ray, the owner contacted me right away to fix it. This was our second visit to Great Clips and once again, it was a fantastic experience! The first time was with Lexy and she cut both my son and daughters hair (both were under 4), and this time was with DeeAnne. Both times we were helped promptly, were asked how I wanted the finished look to be, and my kids felt completely comfortable (which is a big deal when it comes to children's haircuts!) I love how my sons haircut turned out and it's really awesome that our stylist put down notes under my sons profile about what she did and what number clipper setting she used for future reference. The Regional Manager, DeeAnne S. contacted me to repay my money for "not only the bad cut but also for the "fix". That was the last time I heard from her. I sure as s**t did NOT GET A REFUND. Been there twice, once by myself and once with my 10 year old son. Came on opening day and got was the first one there, so got in and out very quickly with a decent cut. When we came back on a Saturday it was packed with people taking advantage of a special discount. That said the line moved very quickly and we were only waiting for about 15 minutes. My son got a very good cut, and Ben who cut my hair did the best job I've had in a couple of years. They were quick too, which is always good in my book. I'll be going back. read more

You get what you pay for, rushed service and pretty awful haircuts. I tolerated this place for months just because it was quick and easy. The haircuts are usually pretty bad, but not awful. The last time I went in, and I mean it is the last time I will ever go in, the haircut was absolutely horrible. I got the woman that always brags about how she used to work at a high-end salon. I believe her, if it was an animal salon. Usually when they ask how I want my hair, they try to convince me to do it differently so that it is quicker and easier for them. This place is probably good if you have several children and you are on a budget and you don't like your kids. Also, if you are going as "terrible haircut man" for Halloween, then this is the place. Otherwise, if you are a self-respecting adult, spend the extra $10 and get a good haircut. read more

Parking is really really really bad because there's a 24 hour fitness, Safeway, Toys-R-Us and Petco located around this Great Clips location. Luckily, everyone were going elsewhere other than to get their hair cut. There was no wait at 6:30 pm when I got there so that's always good. I forget what the barber's name was, but she was really nice and we had a great conversation about beautiful San Diego while she cut my hair. I only know that she was the only non-Asian barber in this location. She was surprisingly good in cutting my hair also...pays attention to detail and checks on you from time to time to make sure that she's cutting it correctly. ***** VENTURE AT YOUR OWN RISK***** Not knowing that "Great Clips" is a chain (came from the east coast), I thought why not support a newly opened barber shop since i frequently shop at Safeway... WHAT A MISTAKE... I have NEVER MET a lazier "Barber" in my ENTIRE life. ANNIE cannot follow simple directions: cut and thin out the sides and the back with scissors and "TRIM" the top for evenness. Simple enough right? She first reach for the CLIPPER and ask me what number I want. HOW am I suppose to know what number she is supposed to use??? AND didn't I just asked for a SCISSOR CUT, I am not 16 year old rolling with a fade anymore. Of course, the result was less than desirable as the left side doesn't match the right side and the thinning effect was non-existent... When I ask her to cut more from the side and back because I am not happy with the length and the lopsidedness, she then blamed my swirl for the unevenness. What kind of excuse/reply is that? My old $8 haircut from wondercut is LIGHT YEARS better than this place. read more

For a quick haircut, this place is good. Good for kids too. I bring my kids there. They are quite good with the kids, and have the boosters seats for them. They also have some toys around the waiting area to keep them occupied. Give out balloons too. So, the kids got things to keep them occupied while mom/dad get their haircuts. They also keep records of your preferences when you register. The next time you come, they know the length and type of hair-clipper to use. Tip: Use their iPhone app to 'check-in' for the haircut and beat the line! read more
