We hired Green Earth Landscaping/VirginiaPonds.com in Sept 2018 to build a backyard fish pond…read more We are disappointed with how the project turned out, we have had multiple waterfall leaks, they punctured the liner twice & we found that the company had issues with communication, time management, customer satisfaction, including sloppy work & dishonesty at times. The project was planned for 3 days & was not finished the first time until 8 business days later. After leaks & issues it took 4 mos total before it was 'done'; however it still wasn't complete & didn't meet the contract. They punctured the liner in 2 places (& did not disclose 1 patch which gave us problems in March 2019). They had to rebuild part of the waterfall that was leaking & we have just discovered that the waterfall is STILL leaking (April, 2019). To remedy the depth building issues their only solution was to raise the pond liner straight up around the exterior of the pond & leave the liner exposed (~15 feet). My husband spent at least 2 weeks fixing the pond to raise the water level and remove the tripping hazards and repair our yard. We bought at least 100 bags of top soil, bought & spread new grass seed, bought & installed at least $300 of rock to remedy the tripping hazard around the pond & raise the water level. The first time the pond was filled the water was very murky. Owner stated they had washed the rocks & anything remaining would settle & be fine. After weeks of not settling & a few times asking, they finally cleaned the gravel during the pond patch repair. Prior to that I could see the layers of dirt on the rocks and there's no way they washed it on the first day & left that much muck remaining. DESIGN: We requested & received a 10x20' pond w/ a waterfall. We wanted a fish pond & were left w/ a water garden. There are two 4'x10' wide shelves on the left & right sides of the pond. The front & back shelves are 2' wide connecting those 4' shelves. Pond was intended for fish & we have 4 fish that are 2' long. We are left w/ a 4'x8' second depth of the pond (minus 2' for big rocks) so 2'x6' for fish & plants to winter. * The left side of the pond ranged from almost 8" to ~10" (but 3'x10' of it is 8"). My husband had to move the skimmer door & overflow valve to get it from 7 to 7.75 inches deep (why didn't they notice the lack of depth or move the skimmer?). During construction & after the shelves were built the owner told us the pond would be 12" deep all around. When I complained about the finished depth of 8" he said that Aquascape says it only needs to be 8-10" so this is "done" (even though he promised & thought it would be 12"). The 8-10" (mostly 8") is on a 4' shelf, not a standard 8-12" wide shelf. The 8-10" depth is unacceptable considering the shelf size. Multiple other contractors who saw the pond told us we have an "ornamental pond" not a pond for fish. * The owner also told us the 2' wide shelf they created is required per Aquascape guidelines, which is not accurate. * To get 8" deep on the left side of the pond the owner had to come back multiple times to pull up liner, leaving the liner straight up in the air (exposed). He stated this is a finished product (which is in violation of the contract). Owner told me they would use the gate near the pond & would lay plywood to protect the lawn. This was far from true. The equipment was HUGE & they had to use the far gate, destroying 1/2 of our backyard & a path in the front. We paid extra for excavation (b/c of a hill), but the pond wasn't dug deep enough. We paid extra for dirt removal, but they left at least 1/3 of the dirt to fill the torn-up yard & we still had to buy 100 bags of top soil to fill in all the ruts & unevenness of the yard. I constantly had to reach out for a status. If the owner said they were coming tomorrow, they wouldn't show up & it would be another week or more until someone showed up. Character limit prevented me from writing all the issues we had - this is ~1/2.

In late 2022, I bought a colonial house that was built in 1993 that I had a patio door with wood…read morerot so bad that I could see daylight coming through a hole at the bottom of the frame. The house also had 32 original aluminum windows. During the home inspection, the inspector identified a few windows that didn't open whether due to age or because they were painted shut. I thought "I just won't use those windows to ventilate - no problem." What I didn't know/see until after closing was that none of them had any screens... My wife and I went a full year without opening a single window due to how many bugs/mosquitoes are in this region and it sucked so we had thought about just buying custom screens as a temporary solution. After a cold winter in which my HVAC struggled to get to 67 degrees at times, I knew I needed to do something before the upcoming 2023 winter and figured I'd start with replacing the patio door with the hole letting cold air come in/warm air escape. Also, I said that I might as well get window estimates at the same time so I could get an idea of how much that project would be too. I found Milcon and met the owner Matt through Thumbtack. Matt was incredibly responsive and we scheduled an appointment shortly after. The meeting was pleasant because he was extremely quick and efficient in getting measurements to provide me with an estimate while answering any questions I had. I had expected a long drawn out process/presentation that would take over 2 hours but Matt was in/out in under 45 min. In total, I had 11 different companies come by to provide quotes. Door brands included ProVia and ProVia only. Every single company offered ProVia doors as the go-to. Window brands included: ProVia Endure, Provia Aspect, Apex Insignia, WindowNation/Vytex, Slocomb, and Earthwise/RJT Industries. After comparing all options, I decided to sign a contract with Matt and Milcon for replacing all 32 windows, replacing patio door with a French door, and replacing another side entry door. I chose Milcon because: 1) Price vs Value 2) He offered a Lifetime Labor Warranty 3) Matt seemed like a man of his word. To dive deeper into each above: 1) My wife wanted black exterior windows instead of white - which I had no idea costs so much more than white. Adding color to Earthwise/RJT window frames cost about HALF the amount of the cost for adding color to ProVia Endure windows. When you have 32 windows, that difference adds up quickly and ultimately saved me about $5k off the total price of just adding color to windows compared to my 2nd best quote for adding black. Matt also provided a bigger discount for doing the entire door/window project together (rather than phasing them over time) than his competitors. 2) No other company offered anything close to this type of labor warranty. Most companies offered between 2 to 5 years. 3) Pre, during, and post-install, Matt has 100% followed through. As someone who admittedly who can be hard to deal with because I have very high expectations (along with having extreme water damage paranoia), I did have a few minor things that most homeowners probably wouldn't ever notice/care about. But me being me, I called Matt back a couple times and he had no problem sending out his guys see what they could do. Speaking of "his guys" - I can't speak highly enough of his installation crew led by Josh who has been installing windows/doors for 20+ years. Josh and his team worked hard and diligently during the entire time and did an amazing job on a difficult project that requires cutting out nailing fins/flanges behind siding. Caulk work was exquisite with perfectly smooth lines that look like they were done by a machine. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Matt and Milcon to any of my friends and family. I'll definitely call Matt again for another project. NOTE: I ended up with Earthwise/RJT windows not because I thought they were the best performing or the highest quality (they're neither) but because I thought they were above average and represented the best bang for your buck. Plus they're local.

We get NO COMMUNICATION from Paul Davis. We have to chase them down when we have questions and then Paul Davis always says they will call us back... fat chance of that ever happening. They are very secretive when it comes to pricing and will not supply us with a detailed invoice with costs. (I have been trying to figure out if I paid for a new vanity when they reused my old one) The only reason we used Paul Davis was because our insurance company recommended them. BIGGEST MISTAKE WE EVER MADE!!!
